Uncool people will think you're a d*ckhead, but who gives a toss about them, right?

People who have to work that hard to be 'cool' - aren't. The other name might apply, though.

Yes, my brother is part of the cool crowd.

Doesn't bring a jumper on a dodgy Melbourne day, and then when the sun starts to go down stands there shivering!

If Cool means being unpractical to look good, l will stay the way l am.

But l might give up the fluffy bunny on the leash?

Young people who are cool, are the funniest people in the world to me. The whole concept is hilarious to me.

And the kids who feel bad about not being cool? I wish that they knew how absolutely unimportant "being cool" is.

And now...from Wil Wheaton, a very smart young man...

In my experience those who are "cool" not only don't know it - but don't think about it. They are doing their own thing in their own way...and that attitude makes them seem cool.

I think the jealousy of "cool" kids is that they don't care what you think about them or whether you like what they wear or what they do. They aren't thinking about impressing - and that makes them impressive.

You are correct. Hipsters fall in the douchebag category.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

I assume you mean dickhead and douchebag, and not douchebag and hipster. Dickheads affect their environment - their actions toward others make them dickheads. Douchebags take on affectations that annoy others, ie. handlebar mustaches, PBR, skinny jeans, etc.

Hipsters are a subset of douchebags. Not all douchebags are hipsters, but all hipsters are douchebags. Another example of a douchebag is the guy (from the States) who studies abroad in college and comes back with an English accent and a penchant for scarves. Every class has at least one.

I did mean dickhead and douchebag.

Once again we see the difference between American English and the rest of the world's version of English.

In the rest of the world's interpretation dickhead and douchebag are interchangeable.

Since both myself and the maker of the video speak "rest of the world English", you have to use our interpretation for this particular case.

I'm out of Thanks for the day. But I enjoyed every word. Riffle must have had a good rest, because he's back in rare form. So, by this logic, I was wrong...again. Riffle is not a douchebag. He is a dickhead/douchebag...otherwise known as a "Daywalker". He has the powers of both, and none of their weaknesses.

I sure hope this doesn't get deleted, because I keep laughing at the last two posts.

Turning into the Claude and Riffle show again. Great banter.

But here's a strange thing. Browsing Google images with the search term "Claude Riffle" . . . and there it is . . . the very first image . . .

So I clicked the image, and what did it say?

                Answer: Claude “Clutch” Riffle

Says it all. I rest my case.

I'm sorry, HD. I didn't realize that, by not even directing a post at Claude, I was creating witty banter amongst the two of us. Oddly enough, I thought I was having a brief, but slightly off topic, discussion with Whateverpedia.

I'll do my best in the future to not create zany interactions with Claude by continuing to not create zany interactions with Claude. I can't promise any more than that.

Well, that's the best way to do it, Dan. If you approach him directly he just runs away screaming "Not in the face. Not in the face".

This is a situation in which "douchebag" and "hipster" cannot be considered interchangeable.

Well done, Richard, the less of them in the world the better!

Australia tends to have individuals wearing fluorescent sneakers and if that isn't dorky enough, matching t-shirt! Gaaaaaaaah!

It is as bad as 3 year old with LCD sparkling sneakers, tolerable, but slightly annoying!

Not as bad as two 3 year olds, in the bottle shop today, they were going rampant, and the father was saying, don't tough the bottles! I expected a slinging match with the inevitable smash and hospital visit, but they got out alive!

                        Maybe next time!

I agree..."Penchant" is such a flamboyant word. Said by men with cigarette holders, ascots, goatees, and make up. I've only heard a man say "Penchant" once..in a local bath house......

You are correct. Hipsters fall in the douchebag category.
You're just really really trying to get someone to call you a Hipster instead of a Douchebag.

Yeah douche sounds like a more appropriate term.

Funny. I've never thought of dickheads being the same thing as nerds or any other kind of "groupishness". I thought that was just another word for a**hole. A mean spirited or stupid person.

It's interesting that you bring that up. I don't think I'm mean spirited, and I'm not stupid.

But I can be a dickhead. I feel a kinship to a few here, and no kinship at all to others. That probably stems from the same mentality as other cliquish groups.

And my definition of "a cool crowd" is maybe different that others here. I just keep thinking about the high school group of kids that were mean to the nerdy kids. The football players that threw my clothes in the toilet in gym. The girls that are played in movies where they are cute and fashionable...but mean as dirt. Those people exist.

There was another group that were popular, kind, creative, and were a positive influence to be around. I almost forgot about them. But Kay's last post reminded me.

The kids in the video just seemed like creative fun kids.

In my school we had three basic cliques of "kewl" kids. I was in the "hippie" kewl crowd. We had cliques of jocks, nerds, cheerleader types, you name it. The one thing about my school, though, is we only had a few mean kids and it wasn't clique related. While we hung in our own groups, we held no disdain for the other cliques and we had a very high functioning school and community.

I've been in a few cliques that were envied as "kewl". What I can say about them is that we didn't really worry about who or what anyone else was or what they liked. We were in our cliques because our group just plain got along and liked the same stuff. We were having too much fun to really care about what anyone else thought. Sure - my female friends and I enjoyed fads and styles, but what young woman doesn't want to be attractive to guys.....and visa versa?

When cliques become groups of mean kids - that's no longer a clique, it's a mob of severely disturbed individuals packing together for support. That's not "cool" no matter what they think of themselves.

You could dip Claude in liquid nitrogen and he still wouldn't be cool.

On the other hand, as Stewart Scott says, "I'm as cool as the other side of the pillow."

So, you and this Stewart guy were in bed together.....and you were talking pillow talk...and this came up?

And by the way, I'm Super Cool. And if I was immersed in liquid nitrogen, my temperature would be −196 °C (77 K; −321 °F. And that would be very cool. See? Knowing that proves that I'm cool.

To prevent more confusion in the future, when we say you're an "absolute zero", we're not talking about temperature.

Now I'm mad. I picked up the phone to answer it, as I read this post. The first 3 seconds on the phone were me trying not to laugh.

Dan. We don't wear scarves. Those American students see them in pictures in magazines like 'Country living' or 'Nottinghill is soooooo kewl!' which is a firm favourite amongst said students. The trouble is Dan, they've been watching way too much Nottinghill and Bridget Jones, sniffing too much cocaine and basically losing the plot.

Next thing you know they start talking all silly and wearing scarves. This isn't an English thing. It's a disease among young American students living in London.

If I were you I'd push them down the stairs more often. I'll make a mental note to do the same.

I have to admit that a lot of women young or old wear skarves, when it is cold, but they are usually subtle colors so it doesn't bother me!

And young women going nuts because they just bought a Doctor Who scarf, (Tom Baker, not the current nutter) is entertaining than anything else, but it is the wreched fluorescent green, pink sneakers, that make me want to wrech.

Or polish up on my stair pushing skills?

Did that brightly colored sneaker craze come from England or is it our perverse creation?

                If so, push away!
