Thanks and Kudos to the "Old" Mods

You know who you are - you hung out on the WF when you didn't have to.
You cleaned up the messes and kicked out the trouble makers.
You put up with rants and whines and claims of favoritism and had patience for the few who wanted "special" treatment.

You did your best to maintain the WF spirit day in and day out - and well into this latest transition. You're off the clock (the imaginary one, that is) so go have a beer.

Job well done and much appreciated by many of us here.

Kay

Beat me to it Kay. The news is really unfortunate for this forum, but not unexpected, at least not for me. Thank you mods ... this forum was great under your watch and we appreciate the unpaid hours you put in to keep this the interesting, lively, profitable forum that it used to be.

I'm just wondering if they even offered some of the exceptional mods a paid position or if they just selfishly made a decision to only use Freelancer staff.

We really do need to remember to say thank you to the "old" mods. Thanks for starting this thread, Kay. I'd like to add my thanks here as well.

Need to get my thanks in here, too. OMG, Paul - I'm going to miss the heck out of you.

It's been a long road we've all traveled together. You mods were just top of the line. In every way. You are class acts, and I don't think Freelancer understands exactly how hard it will be to replace your depth of understanding of your crowd's ethos. Just as they did with site design, they are taking a step down the ladder instead of up.

I sure hope not being mods won't keep you out of the OT all together. You are more than mods. After all these years, you are our friends.

I'm tipping a glass to you - thanks for everything. SALUTE.

That's a MAJOR change in the spirit of the Warrior Forum but we'll
see how the paid hands manage.

A great thanks to those who hang in there even when they didn't
    have to.

I, too, would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the mods who so tirelessly helped make this forum such a great place over the years. I understand that the new owners have their own agenda and plans for the future of this forum, and that's their prerogative. But I am sad to see the old mods removed from their roles.

May each of you enjoy all the new free time you'll have on your hands - you certainly deserve it!

      This.

Well, hopefully not the "goodbye" part, anyway.

At various times over the last few years, I've had perhaps more reason than many members here to be grateful to several of the former moderators for their assistance, and "words fail me", too.

But thank you - all of you.

Thanks to all the Old Guard. Your selfless service and support is one of the reasons for the previous "family" feeling in this forum. While I am sure you have pissed off your fair share of users because of difficult and sometimes seemingly unfair or arbitrary decisions, I for one am grateful to you all. You helped provide a place of learning and support that has helped many people over the years.

Besides the apparent rudeness (which as owners they have every right to decide how they run their company) the biggest mistake they have made here is this: Most of the regulars trusted Paul, Rod, Yukon, Pearson and others but Freelancer has done nothing to build our trust in them so now there is a huge void. Like a hole in the heart. Like a fear/feeling that this truly is the beginning of the end and one more nail in the coffin.

Honestly, I feel a bit out of place giving my thanks to the old mods. Even though I've been a part of this forum since 2008, I still don't really consider myself one of the "old members"...just goes to show how far back this community really goes.

But thank you none the less. I know you guys did a lot of behind the scenes stuff that most of us never got to saw or appreciate, except in the fact that we got to enjoy a clean and friendly community. In particular, I'd like to thank Paul Myers and Bryan Kumar. You guys went out of your way to make time for me when I needed help or advice, and have helped countless other Warriors I'm sure. I could not find words to tell you how much that means to me even if I tried.

So thank you, all of our old mods. I wish you nothing but the best, and I hope that we'll all be able to keep in touch with you, wherever you go.

When I first discovered the WF, it was obvious that it was being run by people who knew the business.

To the 'Old Guard' mods who are truly the ones who guided the WF to what it was 'before': you made the WF a place to learn, a place to help others, a place to be. Thank you.

I've been around the WF for a long time. Not as long as Paul, but then he was here even before Al Gore invented the Internet. But long enough to have seen a lot of mods come and go.

In all that time I've had nothing but admiration for them. Having run (much smaller) forums of my own I know how hard a job it is to juggle rules, fools, scammers, spammers giant egos and gallons of misplaced righteous indignation. And how unrewarding it is to spend so much time trying to make the forum a better place in the face of ingratitude and outright hostility.

For all that I tip my hat at all the volunteer moderators and offer them much gratitude for trying their best to make this a good place to hang out.

I supposed that it was inevitable that Freelancer would want to take control of its investment back in house but I can't help thinking that this is another nail in the coffin of community and another step towards corporate blandness.

      Time will tell.

Just a general comment here, folks.

The change to in-house moderation is not any sort of comment on the "old" mods. It has to do with Freelancer's internal policies, and I'm surprised it didn't happen 3 months ago. It's not a personal thing. It was, as a couple of people have pointed out, inevitable.

I don't envy Alaister having to try to balance the real-time demands of a large and active forum with the plodding pace of a corporate hierarchy.

      Hi,

Thanks for letting me butt heads with anyone who crossed my path, vintage mods. I hope some others learnt a little something and enjoyed the popcorn and splorf! moments during those epic rows before the 6 page threads got deleted because I certainly did!

Special thanks to Paul for all of your wise words, guidance and long rope.

Sorry about the disappearing gurus everyone, but they kind of asked for it by...um.....running big product launches and stuff.

      Cheers!

I certainly can see why the mods needed to be replaced.

Just the idea that they allowed me to continue posting here for all these years screams of incompetence.

On a serious note, I do appreciate all the help the mods have given me. It wouldn't have been the same place without you guys/gals.

I will raise a glass of beer or vodka in your honor.
