Is it just me or do you feel more and more distanced from your physical self the older you get? Like you're more willing and ready to just move on??

I feel less like I look, if that makes sense. If I could live as a teenager, and be left alone, I would be happy. But I am not a teenager anymore. If I had a kid, statistically, THEIR kids would be close to teenagers! And a LOT of people want to get into my life.

Move on from what? Your body goes with you as you age.

Do you mean more ready to die?

And, you are your physical self.

Yep baldie, that's exactly what I meant.
I feel I am more distanced to my body than when I was younger.

If you want to think of it as "moving on", that's your right. I think of it as not existing anymore.

Yes, I'm far more comfortable with that idea than I was when I was younger. Although I'm not depressed, suicide is a viable option, when I inevitably get weak and dependent on others.

Your feeling is the natural result of aging, and changes in brain chemistry.

I don't look a day over 36, (eventhough l am much older than that) and even with Paletie exercises there are some things l used to able to do l can't do now.

Like jumping into the recycle bin to flatten down the green waste.

But apart from this damn tooth, (l will get a second opinion on it soon, and get it done) no, not really!

I am aging, but a lot slower than the norm, so, no the longer l can hang around the better!

I think those who have been highly focused on their physical appearance when young have a rough time accepting the aging process.

You may have the best body in the gym at age 20 - but by age 30 what you are is "good for your age" as there are younger/better bodies working out beside you.

The photos you've chosen to display here seem to indicate someone focused on physical attributes. It's smart to keep your body fit, flexible and strong but it's shallow to obsess over how you look to others.

It's also silly to think that others even care what you look like.

I like to think that my purpose in life, is to stand next to other people, so they can feel better about how they look.

Obviously you have a connection to your body as you seem so anxious to display it here. I wouldn't think anything about the images on a health or fitness site - but on a marketing forum they scream "look at my body" and seem out of place to me.

Maybe as you get older you are realizing "how I look" is not the most important definition of who you are. ....or maybe not.

An interesting thing I saw recently was a woman who tried on a body suit which restricts movement, is weighted, restricts vision and hearing a little. It was supposed to show how it would feel to be 90 years old in physical terms.

At 57 I feel I'm just beginning to get thin layers of that suit on. Sure, you can do stuff to stave that off for longer, eat right, do exercise, work out.

As long as my minds sharp and active, cognitive and I'm not in great physical pain, that's the most important thing. But, if I suffer from dementia or any illness that restricts the mind I may not be aware of the change.

So what you say now about it all, you may not be cognitive enough to realize that the criteria for exiting you have outlined has been met. Best have a do not feed notice up, if I get like this, this and this.

I'm not worried about dementia. I'm worried about being a burden on my wife. Unless I'm in an accident, and am left a vegetable, I'll know when it's time.

People who botch suicides are the ones who don't plan it out, and aren't knowledgeable about such things.

By the way, hopefully this is a couple decades in the future before this decision needs to be made.

I don't know if distanced is the word I'd use, but I do understand that my body is just a physical vessel that my spiritual self is a part of.
I believe our energy will move on a some point, as that's what energy does.
I'm not more willing for that to happen, but I am more understanding that it will happen.
Because of that I am ready when it does.

Knowing that, I don't sit around waiting for it to happen or do I moan about it getting closer to happening. Instead I try to do what I enjoy.

When I actually had my operation, I actually TOYED with having a DNR order. But I guess they technically DID have to resuscitate me. I mean they had to stop my heart and all. But I realized that having a DNR was tantamount to not getting the operation, etc... Like lanfear seems to be saying, I am OK with dying, I just want to DIE, not be in pain or infirmed. So I wouldn't do most types of suicide even if I wished to, because they simply have too great a chance of leaving a person infirmed.

I even saw a person try to commit suicide with drano! For those not familiar, drano has caustic lye that, in as pure a form as drano, eats through flesh. It is literally like pouring paint thinner on a painting. What happened? He had intense pain, called 911, and they removed most of his digestive track. Last I heard, he had to eat OFTEN, manually push food through(The track was moved in front of his rib cage to facilitate this.), and just had his whole life upset.

I had 90+ year old great grandparents and grandparents and they were not ready to move on,they all lived till 97 ,98 and 101 years old .Sorry but you can't prevent aging and if your talking about physical appearance well it's what's on the inside that matters and how you use it and your outlook on life .Only time I will be ready to move on is when I can't wipe my own butt or can't remember if I did or not.

I find I am looking forward to death more and more as time goes on. Not because I am feeling old or infirm or that I am in a hurry to get there.

I just want to know what comes after. It's a bit like being a kid at Christmas (WHAT'S IN THE BOX). It's killing me not knowing.

I have my ideas about what happens but I'm open to being wrong.

The downside is that if oblivion is my inheritance I wont have the satisfaction of knowing that.

I have had plenty of experiences to know that, heaven is real, and hell for that matter, but it is not what is portrayed in movies, (well overall).

It is a bit like anything in life, if l won a million tomorrow and went to a tropical location, sat under a palm tree, and thought this is nice, but l learned very little and evolved very little, then it seems like a hollow victory....

But if you struggle for years on end to achieve a worthy goal, your character strengthens as well as mentally and spiritually, then you go to the same palm tree, then you can think that l got through all that, and deserve to be here!

Heaven is similar, when you get there you are relieved that the struggle is over, but possibly disappointed that you didn't go for your dreams, and just settled for a job instead.

All dreams are possible up there, and that is great but it is also a hindrance.

Down here achieving worthy goals is usually a great struggle, but you learn 100 times more than getting it handed to you!

I don't feel distanced from my body at all. It's not completely doing what I want it to. I look in the mirror and see my older relatives sometimes instead of myself, yet for my age I'm in great shape. I was considered very attractive when I was younger and was carded to get into a bar until after I was 40. Yet, the aging doesn't bother me as far as looks go. I come from a long line of longevity on both sides of my family, and see a dignity in age that is lacking in the youth - even though they have more of the "wow" factor going for them.

With my 60th birthday closing in on me in a few weeks, I know "any time" is more of a truth now than ever - and it's not going to become less so in the years ahead. My high school classmates are dropping fairly regularly now.

This summer I led a lot of people into rockhound sites, and am still physically fit enough to be able to do quite some deal of hiking/climbing. I've carried a few very weighty boulders and backpacks out to my rig. When you're out in nature you better not feel "distanced from your body". If you do you might find you will be "moving on" a lot faster than you expected.

"Sick", to me, for the last few decades has been a day of no energy here and there, but not often. The cognitive function problems I have are still only those that have been with me since I was a kid. Hot guys now want to introduce me to their daddies or granddads instead of asking me out themselves (outside of a few little pervy characters that somehow thought GILFs are the "in" thing to do).

Am I more ready? Hell no. I've accepted that it will happen, unlike our younger days when we were all immortal. I'm sure not ready yet, though. I've still got 30 years at the very least if I can master the lifespan of my ancestry - and I've still got enough to do and see to keep me busy until at least then, too. I might just be a tad POd if I end up being "moved on" before that. If that happens I'm counting on one major punchline across the divide.

I don't look in the mirror very much any more if that's what you're asking. I'm glad that my son's birthday is on the same day as mine since it redirect the attention to him.

One effect of aging that I noticed is, well, getting older. I could write a voluminous essay on it, but in a nutshell -- it sucks. However, it must suck ever more with people for whom aging involves injections of modified botulism, crap injected into their lips to make them fuller, skin surgically re-stretched over the face like a drum. Yikes.

For years I listened to friends complain about aches and pains - and I didn't have any. Their knees and feet and shoulders and backs and ...hut. Mine didn't.

Of course that changed and I've had my share aches but no real pain until I began getting ready for this move. The sorting, boxing, pushing, bending, lifting, pulling....make my muscles and some joints scream "what's going on here!".

Just last night I was thinking up a new invention - an Icy Hot Patch that is body size....you just lay down on it and roll yourself up

I've taken my vitamins and minerals for years. They help but they don't stop the aches as you get older.

What has helped is that I've always been active - exercise, riding, running, swimming - and that pays off as you age!

Exactly. That's what my father taught me, too. Move it or lose it. Physical activity keeps the mind sharp, too.

I can imagine that packing up a whole house could make you a little stiff, though - but that's just a lot of work, not necessarily age.

I don't have any more aches and pains than I ever did. I can't lift/carry as much as I could 30 years ago, but I don't hurt generally. This summer I carried out a few backpacks that I thought were going to have me feeling pretty hard the next day, but it didn't happen. I was a little stiff but a few stretches and I was good to go.

I don't usually hurt, either - this move is doing it, though.

What I MISS is strength. I'm not very big but I was always very strong for my size. Even though I keep moving and exercising, I've lost some of that muscle strength and that ticks me off.

3 weeks to moving day - younger son is coming that last week to help move big stuff out for donation or whatever. Older son flying down later that week to pack truck, put car on trailer and haul me and the menagerie north. I just want it done!

When Kay moves to Ohio, the average IQ will have gone up about 2%.

Which is good, because when Riffle moved here, it went down 2%.

First...So...I would lead the country in Self Importance? At least you got that part right.

But our chief import isn't Funyuns...it's bean burritos from Taco Bell. You don't want to know what our chief export is.

Ebola? Chuck Norris sprinkles it on his corn flakes.

Why isn't Ebola spread through the air? Because Chuck Norris said "No".

When I was on that Royal Caribbean boat alongside the Carnival Magic I was directly opposite that Nurses balcony room. She tried projectile spitting at me but I knew I was protected because I was wearing Claude Norris's super strong bubble wrap clean suit and mask.

I did not know that Bruce Lee and Chuck crossed paths and were friends until that thread about Bruce Lee's death. I think Fess was before Chuck's time.

I know you're being facetious, but Fess Parker and Johnny Weissmuller were the first two actors I could name as a child, actually separate them from the characters they played. a Daniel Boone rerun. He won a fight with a tough character, even after his right arm was disabled by a hatchet blow.

I did not know that Bruce Lee and Chuck crossed paths and were friends until that thread about Bruce Lee's death. I think Fess was before Chuck's time.
I have an old acquaintence - Al Dacascos, known in the 50's as the Kung Fu Kid (or some such). He was a close friend of Bruces. Used to babysit for his kid. Anyhow -- he and Bruce used to like to make fun of the "one strike wonder." Chuck is all about his roundhouse. Bruce and Al can (could) both knock little Chucky around with ease.

I'm nearly as old as Claude so if there is an afterlife I'm going to seek him out and we are going to get together and will that Planchette to go round in erratic circles every time you get your Ouija board out to contact your social media deceased friends. That's when we take time off from tugging Riffles goatee.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

You don't want to live forever... Do you?

Letting go is easy. And death... Will be upon each of us before we know it.

Focus on making the best out of the scarce time that we have.

Worry about death when the time comes. (Or... Anticipate its warm embrace... Should you wish. Muahahaha).

That fact keeps me warm at night.
How do you know that? Did you do it before? If you did, why aren't you posting about it in the reincarnation thread? You're being chaotic again.

And if he saw Riffle first, his answer would be different.

... and I'd been imagining that you didn't need any facts to do that, because you have a bubble-wrap suit for the purpose?
