Are you more productive when you listen to music?

I know this might sound silly to some people, but seriously I've found that listening to music while doing your job makes you more productive.

I know this might not be possible for everyone (like copywriters I think), but in general there's many things you can do better while listening to music.

For those who already listen to music while working, what kind of concentration music you listen to? And have you found yourself to be more productive when doing so?

I find it more productive when there is no distraction e.g. being in silence place.

I can't listen to music while trying to concentrate. I start playing the air drums, air guitar, or using my pencil as a mic.

Battery hens are productive. Artists are creative.

Yes, I usually have some music playing while I'm reading or writing. I find anything by J.S. Bach to be particularly helpful.

I tend to lean towards Vivaldi, Bach, and Glenn Miller.
The problem I often have with listening to music is I will sit at my drums and play or I will figure out drum phrases to go to what I'm listening to.
Bach has been an influence on some of the greatest bass players of our time

    Productive? I don't know.
But the quality of what I do is certainly much better?

Although I do better with George Crumb, and especially
Mike Oldfield (Music of the Spheres) than with Bach & Friends.

I do some of my most creative and artistic work when I have some music playing.

Depends on what type of music is on in the background.

I read somewhere that playing rock/metal/hip hop/pop/r&b actually decreases productivity, whereas light classical increases it.

From my own perspective anything with vocals in it distracts me, whereas instrumental music allows me to concentrate more.

Completely depends on what I'm doing. Anything physical goes better with some kick butt rock. I like to listen while I do 3 dimensional art or anything requiring exercise, like hiking, or maybe raking leaves, etc.

I find it okay to listen to about anything when researching (but I don't like country and that distracts the heck out of me). While writing, though, I find that I end up writing in the tone of anything I'm listening to, so if you read back over it later, you can tell where the songs changed because the mood shifts from paragraph to paragraph and has to be edited. LOL.

I'm with Sal on the physical work and kick butt rock, preferably a bit loud.

More productive? I don't think so. Some things are more enjoyable with music though.

Less productive? Sometimes, yes. If the music is too good and the task too unpleasant, I'll find myself paying more attention to the music than the task.

Classical music, Boards of Canada, or Odd Nosdam is what I listen to when creating awesome stuff.

    (No lyrics).

Don't necessarily NEED music, but it makes working more entertaining.

Classical on rare occasions, jazz when can find something decent, but most of the time, popular sountracks.

The Secret of my Success, has a good one, as does the recent, Guardians of the Galaxy, (well most is 80's classics, but at least "I am not Inlove" is intact, and has probably been remastered, not the currently played, cut and paste version on the radio, (hate that)!

More productive, possibly certainly more creative, good for when l am working on some graphics!

I have to have total silence when I work! Especially when I'm writing an article or brainstorming or something, music is great for after I'm done, it relaxes me.

I must have music or some noise. It helps to put the noisy mind I have in the background. People like me with ADHD often find that music helps.

Music helps me a lot when I'm dancing, especially in public. I find that when I'm dancing without music, at the Post Office, people tend to stare.

      So music is helpful.

Music is not as helpful, when I'm on the phone, and someone is blaring music in the car, next to me.

When I'm writing? I enjoy soft rock.....it tends to drown out my wife yelling in my ear to take out the trash.

      I hope I've been helpful.
