Today my son's piano teacher said this was his best class ever. She said she showed him candy and said she'd let him have it if he did a good job.

What I'm learning about my son is that he's more inclined towards negotiations and garnering a good deal than anything else. I'm quite sure he'll be successful at business, making friends, getting girlfriends. He's already pretty good at that (well, not getting girlfriends, of course, at his age but attracting disturbingly fawning attention from women, young and old alike and clearly basking in the adulation). Academics, I'm not so sure.

Maybe reading Niccolò Machiavelli's "The Prince" with him and discussing it wasn't such a good idea after all.

Amaziig what you can get kids to do nowedays with a bit of negotiated bribery..yeah not a really good approach, though there's not all that much a music teacher could do..
Though my experiece as a youngster was a wrap over the nuckles with the ruler for not paying attention..

if tthey are badly behaved and disruptive then I have a more outdated approach so don't get me started on that one.

Machiavelli? Geezus, TB. Let him be a little kid. Wind in the Willows usually works real well for kids his age.

He badgered me for number of days to read Machiavelli to him before I agreed. So I read it, then he asked questions. I figured, good, that's out of his system, but nope. He wanted more. The next day, still more. Hiding the book didn't work.

He does do the stomping on autumn leaves, splashing his rainboots in puddles, preschool, slides, sandboxes, Lego, Minecraft, blocks, Machiavelli, inertia, gravity, chess, the formation of planets and all that nice childhood stuff.

Don't read The Godfather with him either, otherwise he's going to be making everyone "offers they can't refuse".

So that blind people can hate them as well.
