OK, FIRST of all, it says: "The Container Store pays its 6,000 employees an average of $48,000 a year"! You came back at me with this SAME retort when I gave you a similar, but likely more precise, statement about WALMART! WHAT GIVES?

ALSO, it says: "The company also gives “big” raises each year, he said, from 0 percent for low performers to as much as 8 percent."!!!!!!!!! YIKES! That DESTROYS YOUR utopia! Can YOU say "PAY INEQUALITY"?!?!?!?!?!?!?

It ALSO says: His theory is “one equals three,” he told the Wall Street Journal: “one great person can easily do the business productivity of three good people,” which means a company can pay that one high performer “50% to 100% above industry average.” BULL!!!!!!! That isn't "his theory". It is ESTABLISHED FACT!

Tindell says, “We’ve never laid anybody off in the history of the company,” although it does fire workers for poor performance. During the recession, it didn’t do any layoffs, instead freezing salaries and 401(k) matches. He claims that means the company “bounced back quicker after the recession because of the loyalty factor.”
YIKES! They FIRE PEOPLE for poor performance! They FREEZE things during hard times!

In short, they aren't saying anything against what I said, but LOADS against what you did!

I even said I LIKED Martin Luther Kings statement, of how you should "DISCRIMINATE not on the basis of the color of a persons skin but ON THE BASIS OF their CHARACTER." SADLY, unions feel you should NOT! So the WORST benefit a little, and it hurts the best a LOT!

HECK, if you did this for cars, they would be cheaper AND better quality! If you did it for the FOOD industry, the products would be better and safer and the workers would be happier. Ever see undercover boss? The good guys often get nice raises, and the worst get fired. Sometimes they get fired MID SHOW! I'm rooting for BOTH!

    Steve.

There's a better article about it here:

The Container Store Pays Employees $50,000 A Year - Business Insider

1=3 is his concept - pay people very well for what they do....AND HIRE AND KEEP THE BEST WORKERS ONLY.

Hire good people - pay them well - and expect high productivity from each of them. It's a good business concept that works but requires more of workers than the typical "retail" job.
