I haven't seen Jim Carrey for awhile. He's a great impressionist. Enjoy. I've got to start watching SNL again.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Why? Is it really unfunny? Was the Carrey spot a fluke? I haven't watched it in 20 years or so.

I remember when it was new, and really really funny.

It does have the odd funny sketch but very hit and miss. Not something I strive to watch.

This. Nearly everything in cringe worthy. They hit on a rare diamond once or twice a season. The rest is just unfunny dreg.

So why is it still on the air? Is this a testament to the sense of humor of the younger generation?

I think that actually a really well thought out question.

The Three Stooges were hilarious to me, when I was a kid. But now? I can't watch it.

I wonder if it's that the culture changes (like why we like the same music as when we were 19)....or is it that our tastes change as we get older. (Why old people always say "When I was a kid...." or "These kids today...")

I bet a little thought would give us the answer.

I'm going to watch it once.

Which means; If I don't like it, that means you were right...and that will make me happy.

            Or

I will like it a lot, which means you were wrong, in which case...my liking the show, will make me unhappy.

            So...
I will either hate the show, and be happy because of it.
Or I'll love the show, and that will make me miserable.

I don't recall the late 70's to early 80's being that way. The mid-to-late 90s had some solid casts, too.

I simply find this current crew lacking virtually any redeeming qualities. It's a broadly stroked statement, but I'm standing by it.

SNL, overall, was never really funny but there was a quirkiness to it and a charisma that Dan, Jane, Gilda, John, Bill, Chevy, Lorraine and Garret had. They were, as individuals, greater than their sum, which is just ass backwards when you think about it. But while the skits were horrible, they gave a kind of performance that was almost like them saying "I know this stuff sucks but I'll be damned if I'm gonna suck doing it."

And they didn't. They were almost making fun of the material they were given to work with. This was proven by how big some of them went on to become.

When SNL was first on, I thought those that watched it were a little "uncool". At that time I wondered why anyone would be home on Saturday night watching TV?

Well, when I first started watching it I was 14.

And even then I wasn't typically watching from home. We were usually drunk in my friends basement. We weren't old enough to drive, after all...

The old SNL had a shock value many people loved. Now it's about as boring and predictable as it gets. The rare times when they have a good skit...that gets shown on every news channel and I have yet to figure that out.

We were recovering from Friday night. I always wondered what the uncool kids were doing on Friday night, that left them rested for a Saturday night out.

Famous actors in the US have been known to do commercials work in Europe to avoid the "embarassment" of being pitchman.

These days it's exposure (any publicity is good) not to mention a heck of a paycheck for very little work.

Another reason is pure economics. Even if, say, Samuel L. Jackson doesn't really need more millions of dollars from filming a Capital One commercial, the job is hard to pass up. It's a few easy days' work for a bigger salary than he could make in several movies.

Over the years, I thought the best part of SNL was the musical guests and the news. The other stuff was hit and miss, mostly miss.
