How well did you do?

I don't like that quiz. To me it seems like it's been devised by a load of do-gooding liberals. I might be wrong.

What a strange comment. Facts are "do-good" liberalism?

They're not, but the selection of facts could certainly be motivated by that (and/or, indeed, by any other societal attitudes).

Only 6/9, here, for the UK - and my excuse is that some of the potential answers are terribly close together!

6 out of 9 for the UK although not been there for years, America I got 4 too. How do they judge stuff like the religion? You might have been christened but not practicing.

No idea. Maybe a general survey. On Wikipedia, I got the figure that 65% of the people in the US take their religion very seriously. No idea where anyone gets these figures.

But I can tell you that in Rural Ohio, the figures are much higher. It's very common to see Bible verses and religious sayings on Burger King signs, and listen to Christian music when in Wendy's. It's a major part of the culture.

A girl was murdered locally, and the newspaper's headline read "Little Cindy (Last name) Went Home To Be With Jesus". That was the real headline. And nobody thought anything of it.

If word got out that I was an atheist, my business would close in a month.

Anyway, I suppose it depends on how the questions are phrased, when the surveys are done.

The problem with that Don is there are numerous statistics on the bureau of labor site that are different.
The reason is each chart only uses certain demographics. For example the one you posted could just be people on unemployment or could be based on people signing up for unemployment and not take into account people outside the system who are no longer eligible for benefits.

They used employment agency stats instead of raw unemployment. That's the one I missed, too. I thought they'd use the raw figure instead of unemployment agency figures just to stump people. Second guessed them wrong.

It turns out all the questions are exactly the same for each country. Interestingly every country overstates the answers to the questions.

Here's an infographic showing just how far out each country is. It shows each question and how far out of reality each nation is, and finishes with an "Index Of Ignorance".

According to the survey, Italians are the most "ignorant" and Swedes are the least.

Zoom the slideshow to full screen to get a better picture.

On the coasts, the figure is much lower. In the south and central states, it's higher.

    Hi Thom,

I merely stated where the 6% number came from --> and I mentioned "many believe that it may not be an accurate reflection"...obviously you are one of those "many". While 5.9% is the number being cited (repeated) by most entities this month I will give you a figure that delves a bit deeper into the "real" numbers. How does 12.6% sound to you?

Mind you, do you have a cathode ray tube monitor and does it say Windows 3.1 when you start up?

I just did that in the last 7 - 10 days. I get notified when there's an update available and haven't been notified since the last update.

Cathode ray tube, no . . . but I suppose the mouse on the treadmill that powers my graphics accelerator could be taking a break.

Oh crap - I just saw a whole discussion on the unemployment that I didn't see before I posted. That's what happens when you start to post - go cook dinner, then come and finish the post. LOL

I find that chart interesting for the close parallels of people losing jobs and the unemployment rates for those unemployed for 15 weeks or more.

I'd really like to know what months this one covers, too. Seasonal employment can really pull those charts around, yet the employment isn't that much of a "save" for people who are employed only 3 or 4 months then back in the unemployment line.

Also "employed part time due to economic reasons"? Huh? Their reasons, such as kid in school that they have to be home for around school hours or industry's economic reason - "we don't want to pay your benefits so we're cutting jobs to half time"?
