Walking Dead: How Do You Think It Will End?

For those who are hooked on the Walking Dead, how do you think the program will end?

I think there will be thousands and thousands of walkers all heading over to Rick ( the last survivor in the group ) and before they get to him it will finish, so we'll never know for sure. ( A bit like the sopranos ending )

What do you think?

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

I'm not sure but the series is fairly well based on the comic books, I haven't read past where they are now and they don't follow it anywhere near exactly but there are a heck of a lot of comic books going beyond where they are now.

    Either way, I like it.

I'd be more inclined to think they'd skip the credits and just put some adverts in there. Or put the credits in a smaller box so you can't see them while an advert fills the remainder of the screen.

      Probably correct!

I didn't even know about the Comic books. ( How do you get them?

        Here you go...

I think I'm up to about book 14 but it's a jolly good thing to add to a Christmas list, you'll see what I mean about following it closely but they're clever in the series to keep you guessing and changing things. You'll see what I mean if you get some. They're very addictive though.

How cool would it be if Rick ended up turning into a zombie? Could make it where he jumps at the screen or like he joins the thousands of other 1's that took over the world. That would be awesome I think.

This is also for Dan Riffle as I know he likes Rick's inability to master the American accent.

Andrew Lincoln is perfect as Rick - other than the fact that he simply can't pronounce his own son's name correctly. Drives me absolutely batshyte. As odd as it might sound, my wife does a perfect impersonation of him saying "choral." Cracks me up.

How will the show end? I expect it just to end. No resolution. The last of the survivors find some minor happiness and the screen fades away.

That said, I haven't read the comics. I went nuts when Season One of Game of Thrones ended and read the entire series prior to Season Two and regretted it. I decided I wasn't doing that again.

(By the way, I'm chomping at the bit to see Carl get eaten just so I don't have to hear Lincoln mangle the name anymore. Well, that and Carl annoys me.)

Andrew Lincoln? He's a very good actor - I like him. He played "Egg" in This Life, which was the first long TV drama series I ever watched (not when it was originally broadcast: I was only 6 or 7 then, but it's been repeated a few times).

I hadn't heard of Walking Dead. I opened this thread thinking of Waking The Dead, which is also outstanding, with Trevor Eve , but not the same thing at all. But I digress ...

In my humble opinion, if you're not watching The Walking Dead (or Game of Thrones), sell your TV because you aren't using it right.

LOL ... I did look up The Walking Dead in Wiki, after reading this thread, just to see what everyone was talking about and what that nice Andrew Lincoln is up to, but I read the entry only as far as the words "flesh-eating zombies". It probably isn't for me.

And talking of actors (and who isn't?), Benedict Cumberbatch got engaged, the other day.

            Alexa,

I am not big on zombie shows either, and horror is not my favorite genre in general, but this series is much more than just flesh eating zombies. It's a great series! Variety tells it fairly well...

To simply chalk up the success of "Walking" to the viability of the horror genre is to misunderstand the show. It's never been some splatterpunk thrill ride like the "Saw" film franchise; there's actually just as much an arthouse sensibility to "Walking" as there is to other AMC shows like "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad."
The "Walking" logline makes it seem like a slasher film: A hardy group of survivors of a viral outbreak escape bloodthirsty zombies. But that's really more of a hook for what may have its share of fan-friendly action elements but is at its heart a multilayered, character-driven piece. "Walking" is actually a very thoughtful meditation on the difficulty of retaining one's humanity amid dire circumstances. It plays more like a Holocaust drama than a horror pic.
            Walking Dead Article - Variety

The popularity of the show seems amazing, but once you watch a few episodes you realize it's not amazing at all that so many people are watching.

With 17.3 million viewers, last night's season five premiere of AMC's "The Walking Dead" was the highest rated show in cable television history.
The Walking Dead also dominated social media, with a total of 1,320,056 Tweets, the highest total for a 2014 drama premiere. At one point last night, all 10 trending topics in the US pertained to The Walking Dead.
'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Premiere Breaks Ratings Record As The Most Watched Cable Show Of All Time - Forbes

My wife got me watching during season 2 --> and I am one of those people that had to go back and watch all of the prior episodes, and now I won't miss an episode.

Alexa, if someone had told me 4 years ago that I would become a huge fan of a TV show about zombies, I would have laughed. Every zombie movie I've ever seen I thought was terrible. But as Rod, Don, and Dan pointed out, it's not about the zombies (or "walkers" as they're called in the show).

The psychological aspect of the show is what I find fascinating, and overall, I think the writers have done a really good job. The characters are faced almost daily with making extremely tough decisions. The constant dilemma, for most, is how to hold on to their humanity in such a horrific world.

Also, the greatest constant danger in the show is other humans - the zombies are really just a backdrop. Extreme circumstances can bring out the best, as well as the absolute worst, in people. The show has made me think many times, "what would I do in that type of situation?". I certainly hope, in my lifetime, that I never have to live in a world that's been completely turned upside down by war, a natural (or man made) disaster, a pandemic, or any other type of similarly nightmarish event.

The Walking Dead is definitely worth watching. If you're not hooked by the second episode, then it's probably not your cup of tea. It does get pretty graphic at times, but it's a necessary aspect of the show.

As for how the series will end - I've no idea and am just enjoying the ride in the meantime. I expect this show to go at least 10 seasons, and hopefully more - although I do wish the seasons were more than a mere 16 episodes. As popular as the show is, I'm surprised it's not getting 24 to 26 episodes per season like some shows on the major networks.

Well I for one am flabbergasted. Walking Dead has turned into a soap opera set against a background of zombies. I have stopped watching it.

What we want is zombies, and more zombies, and humans killing them in creative ways, Z Nation has that. It's all about the zombies.

It has comedy as well, yes.

And, if a human dies, they turn into a zombie, bitten or not. The virus is in everyone. One slightly zombie-fied man (the alpha zombie) who has been bitten and not turned is the key to curing everyone left but they have to get him to California to get a serum made from his blood. so there is hope.

See, ever seen that in the walking dead or in any zombie movie. No. (ok, aside from the Will Smith or Omega man ones)

The Walking Dead is doomed to have everyone become a zombie, period!

And, whats the expiry date of a zombie anyway, no brains for a certain length of time and they die. no one ever explained that.

I highly suspect the fact that it's not "all about the zombies" is exactly why TWD is so popular.

I knew someone would say that and you were in the top three

You lot will be telling me that you like the Vampire Diaries next and it's offshoot, the Originals. Loads of attractive 20 something vampires staring at each other and pouting all the time, occasionally making threatening overtures and moving really fast now and again but mostly driving cars, walking around in the fricking daytime just wearing sunglasses and falling in love. Christopher Lee would turn in his grave.

I think the makers must have done Smallville which contained the most amount of silent staring and pouting I have ever seen in a tv show and no action. Sheeze.

At least theirs Supernatural which I really enjoy.

Thanks, Don. You just saved me a half hour of writing.

The Walkers are truly secondary. After the third episode or so, they become simply a catalyst for the plot.

I have no idea how this story will end because there are so many directions the producers can go with it. I'm definitely hooked on the show. It's more about how people deal with stress and adversity than the actual zombies themselves. Watching people deal with ethical dilemmas based on their own value system (which may change or evolve as the show progresses) is pretty cool.

I know the show likes cliff hangers and they know they when they end the show they want to make some kind of statement or something so shocking that they want people to talk about it for weeks or months afterwards.

Something big is going to happen in Washington DC and some of the main characters are going to die / sacrifice themselves to save the others. My best guess is that they are going to find some huge, secret underground bunker which was set aside for the President and his cabinet, and there will be munitions and food to last them for many years.

But not everyone is going to make it and I think Glen and Rick are going to die, trying to save the rest of the group in the end.......

I believe Rick waking up from a coma was how it was going to end, but when everyone predicted it, Robert Kirkman decided to change it.

I think the Walking Dead is based on Carl's experiences, and the transition humanity makes after the undead apocalypse.

Theory 1: I believe that Carl will die at some point which I could foresee based on the writer pushing the concept that anything could happen, and nothing last forever, and that the world is now a dark sh*tty place. Its possible that Carl will die after after Rick does while the new world is being formed, or if Rick dies after Carl, my guess will be that its because he chooses to die as the would wouldn't be worth living in without his son.

Theory 2: Zombies will always exist, because everyone's infected. However, with less than 1% of the population in existence now, and if a few amount die while being safe, then I think it will get to a point where people finally build a small community that exists and works together until they die and people love each other until they do so. I feel this one is the most likely because Kirkman has stated this during an interview:

Is there a philosophy or a message that you feel like is reinforced by the story?
"Be thankful for what you have. Sometimes I think about how life now is not cool. We made a mistake at some point in our history, a hundred years ago, when we were living in houses that we built, growing food that we ate, interacting with our families and living our lives. Looking back on that era, it seems kind of appealing. That's a life that makes sense. Now, we're doing jobs that we don't enjoy to buy stuff that we don't need. I don't mean to sound like Tyler Durden, but it seems like we've screwed things up. There doesn't seem to be any kind of movement to continue evolving how we live, who we are and what our purpose is as human beings. That's unfortunate. So it's fun to look at the world of The Walking Dead and see those things taken away. Is life going to be better? A lot of people think the show is very bleak and depressing. And it is, oftentimes. But I can see where the story is going to go in the next ten years, and I think about it optimistically. Maybe it's going to make us better people by the end of it."

children born after the apocalypse become the keys for humanity living on. A curveball could be that some towns where people weren't generally "coming and going" thrive and aren't infected at all and safeguard themselves from everything outside of their town.

Either way, I think Rick will die in the comics and the show, and Carl will likely be in the position where he has his own family and children to look out for.

I have never once considered myself the type of person who would watch zombie movies.

    Until now.

The grossout factor of watching zombies get their heads bashed in fades fairly quickly, and you are left to enjoy the human drama that remains. Every Sunday for sixteen weeks a year, I anxiously await my fix, then indulge in every moment of it.

How will it end? Who cares? I can't think about that now. I just found out Eugene's devastating secret, Beth is trapped in that asylum of a hospital, Carol looks like she is in trouble, and the rest of the group is cleaning cannibal guts from the church pews.

Way too much going on to think about the end. Too busy loving the ride.

If I was in the same situation as them ( Far fetched I know) then I would be looking for a ship ( cruise ship would be ideal ) to live on that.

At least it would be a way to get a good night sleep without keeping one eye open.

I'm presuming the walkers can't swim of course.

As for food, well they could come ashore on a wraft and go hunting ( searching ) for water and supplies, and there is always fishing in the sea where they are for fish ( even lobster!!)

    Anyone got a better solution?

There is a problem here. First they'd need to make sure absolutely nothing was on that ship and it'd most likely be at port so likely it'd have walkers on it. If it hadn't they'd have to sweep the entire ship to make sure there wasn't. If it didn't have walkers and they got it out to sea, they'd need to anchor it and though walkers don't swim they do something else in water. They walk. So they walk along the ocean bed and get to your anchor, climb up and munch on your brains while you sleep.

having said that, if you could get it out to sea with plenty of fuel and the knowledge of how it works, including if it stops working, you could at least have a pool party and a good drink up.

They could easily clear the ship Richard! Just send the girl with the sword in to slice heads! Am sure Rick would have a plan aswell. He always does.

Don't think the walkers could climb the anchor and it would be deeper than 10ft so they would go under.

        Can Walkers drown?

The pool party sounds good though!

They can't drown because they're technically dead. I'm sure in one of the series a walker walked into the river and out the other side. They simply walk under the water, they only die when you bash those brains out.

Also remember the Guv'nor drowned his pal? Weighted him down in that lake then went back to look at him and the zombie was alive and well and angry weighted to the bottom of the pond.

Quite right, I forgot about that!

Still think it would be a good move to get out to sea though.

Coolio, I've never heard of Z Nation, I'm going to have to check it out.

I was never into zombie movies either. I found them rather boring. Movies like Dawn Of The Dead bored the heck out of me and put me to sleep.

Movies like 28 Days were so-so.

With The Walking Dead it was different for me. The production company does a great job with the Zombie make up and the special effects. There's just enough gore to keep a gore-fiend like me happy. What I didn't expect was to fall in love with Maggie.

Damn you Glen. Yes, I'll admit, I'm in love with Maggie.

In all seriousness, I like most of the characters and even though I know they're not real, I feel like I've gotten to know them through 5 seasons of watching them. I like the story line, I like how most of the characters are progressing.

Let's take Rick as one example. There was a time when he wouldn't kill anyone, not for any reason. And then it progressed to him killing in self-defense. And for those of you who have kept up with the series, now know that Rick's turned into one serious badass with the "you're messing with the wrong people" attitude, and I am digging it.

I like the show because I like the characters and the stuff that they have to deal with on top of dealing with the walkers.

Now, if they could only add a couple of white walkers to the show from Game Of Thrones, then things could get REALLY interesting.....Hahahahaha.

Love the show...and the way those zombies look, the way they kill them and how their heads crack and all...but I always wondered...How the hell could they bite with an alligator like force when they are all so soft and easy to break to pieces...I mean whenever they bite...they bite off HUGE chunks of flesh to the bone in an instant...but that sure looks kewl, though.

Do you ever wonder what happens to all of the dead zombie corpses?

Why don't we ever see the bodies of those who have already been put down (i.e. heads chopped off, knifed in the skull, heads bashed in, etc)?

With all the killing we see every week, you'd think there would be areas where the bodies are littered all over the place.

Yet, the environment is practically pristine.

It almost makes one ponder whether any of this is actually happening...

I think they just rot away? I believe they're rotting from the moment they die. A small part of their brain comes back to life but their bodies continue to rot. I think that's it anyway.

We do though don't we? I mean when they were leaving terminus there were a few dead ones piled up there and they were burning them in the prison at the beginning I thought?

With all the killing we see every week, you'd think there would be areas where the bodies are littered all over the place.
I think the idea is to kill as many as possible and get to a safe area. Good point though, you'd expect them to stumble upon areas with previously killed zombies once in a while.

It almost makes one ponder whether any of this is actually happening...
Don't worry Jack, It's definitely a TV show. It is happening. I watch it too but as Greg says and backs up with factual evidence from several other TV shows, films and random websites, this will shortly happen in real life. I believe Greg mentions the running dead as that's what happened in 28 days later so that's what the real zombies are going to be like.

When are they releasing this zombie virus into the general population again Greg? I can't find the other thread where we all discussed this before.

Keep your eyes on the "rabies based" Ebola vaccine. I think it's going to be released sometime next year. When everyone starts taking the vaccine, run for your life.

Don't forget to prepare ahead of time. You need a .22lr rifle because the ammo is smaller which means you can carry more on you.

For some odd reason, .22lr ammo has become harder to find in the past couple of years so you'll probably need to buy it online.

Some conspiracy theorists believe the government is buying it all up. Why would they be doing that? Because they know it's the ideal zombie killing round.

I can easily carry 5,000 rounds of .22lr ammo in a backup. You can't do that with larger calibers because the ammo is too heavy.

P.S. There's not going to be any gasoline left shortly after this happens. Buy a fast bicycle.

I think it will end when you turn off your television and walk outside. The "walking dead" will be on every corner. It will start off as the "running dead" until the infected lose most of their energy.
