This sold at Christie's earlier this year for almost $24 million. No joke.

I was a little disappointed Tim. When I saw the thread title I was hoping it was one of yours.

I don't know if it was intended, but I caught the sarcasm
But you already know what I think of your art.

I can't help but wonder why anyone would pay anything for it.

For a lot of these buyers who pay millions for art, the work itself is more of a commodity and investment than something they just want because they love it.

      Nope. One small canvas.

Hey, there are a lot of artists I know, good artists, some of them professors even, who are shaking their heads at this sale and others like it.

Yep. The thing that gets me is that what he did wasn't revolutionary in the art world. People had used stencils in fine art for a long time. Jasper Johns, an artist I like, used stencils a lot three decades before Wool did and used them in a more interesting way.

Yes, confirmation that the world is insane!

So this means that if someone hijacked this guy and got him to sign a blank canvas, then they could create simple crap like this and go get 10 million for it!

After all people are paying for the signature, the artwork is a crock.....!

This is as bad as the "fine" artwork I've seen with random numbers posted line after line. The painting was obviously not fine artwork any more than the numbers were, but...obviously, people with more money than brains buy that kind of stuff.

I used to be very interested in drawing sailboats when I was about 3 years old. My mother never did appreciate my artwork because I was painting the house windows inside with her nail polish.
