Based on Gallup survey data collected from more than 130,000 people in 135 countries, the index ranks nations in three categories: charitable giving, volunteering and willingness to help others -- as measured by whether respondents said they helped a stranger in the past month.

    WOW! I'm SHOCKED that burma rose up so much. STILL, it said the US was most likely to help out a STRANGER! And that kind of kills SEVERAL myths about the US!!!!

      This has always been my exact impression.

      It's ironic.

      I knew the US was "at the top" on this front. I admit I had absolutely no idea at all that Burma was.
