Here's a little bit on why healthy soil is important.

Thanks Thom. I watched one on soil not too long ago. Very interesting info. I've thought of taking classes on soil. Might still do it. There's a lot of call for people who know soil to help with it for organic gardens. I think a soil expert and an organic gardening expert (stuff like no til growing and layering plants effectively) could make a lot of money together. People are starting to realize how important it is to grow their own food now.

And people wonder why I'm so opposed to chemical fertilizers, pesticides and growing gmo's.

With the cultivation of different kinds of skills, a community could theoretically have a much higher quality of life at a much cheaper price.

Thom - the UN is calling for an end to industrial farming. I just wonder if we'll end up in a war because of Monsanto's control of the US gov pretty soon. 193 countries just banned geo-engineering, but not the US. Because of the danger of industrial farming to the whole world, I'm thinking Monsanto and its ilk might just be at the end of it's line.

      It's coming Sal.
Monsantos stock was just downgraded for the first time.
Their shills are attacking everyone who speaks out against growing gmo's. For a while they where pulling that "if you're against gmo's you're anti-science" crap. But now you've got soil scientist, micro biologist, entomologist, and agronomist coming out and saying gmo's are what are actually anti-science as they are grown the opposite of what those sciences dictate.
The claims that gmo's can feed the world and is sustainable agriculture has been debunked.
I think this International Year of Soils by the U.N. is huge.
It seems they are promoting it from two different angles.
First you have the sustainable farming angle with a focus on local farms. That's also an area (I posted it here before) that our USDA is studying. In fact I just learned today that New York farmers have been selected as part of the study and will be receiving a grant from the USDA if they participate.
The second angle is the environment and 'climate change' one.
Scientist are discovering the ways that healthy soils capture carbon and other 'pollutants' from the atmosphere and how that is drastically reduced with unhealthy and dead soils. In addition they now understand how healthy soils hold moisture and release it in a way that can help reduce droughts and also help crops tolerate droughts.
I am real glad the UN understands just how hazardous industrial farming is to the whole planet. If it's not ended it could very well be the thing that ends us.

All well and good for the rest of the world. Right now every human in the US should be fighting the DARK act- - which is to be voted on in what - a matter of days? It actually would take away our right to know what's in our food. If they can refuse to label GMO's, they can refuse to label any toxic crap they want to add to our food.

People need to call their legislators and express their outrage over this bill even coming to the floor at all. How much louder can they spell out that we are abject slaves than to tell us we don't have a right to know what we are eating? I'm so furious I can't see straight and for my money, anyone who wrote or sponsored this monstrosity against the people should be recalled immediately.
