Yeah, I have reported a lot of spam today as well. Tons of it is being posted, no doubt about that!

Me too, although I just put "spam" in my report. Now if they'd just eliminate that 60-second wait rule it would really make things so much easier!

  That timer has never made sense to me. They ask us to report spam
  and then cripple the ability to do so ...
  
  I have asked a few people why, but have yet to receive any answer
  that made sense. I am sure there is one ... I just haven't heard it yet.

I'll be honest: I object far more to the blatant self-promoters than the spamskibots, and I know they do the forum far more harm, too. The latter, at least, are readily identifiable for what they are. (I do "report" both, and the spambot ones get removed.)

I asked on 23rd November and heard that the Powers That Be were considering shortening the flood interval to 10 seconds, but that was a couple of weeks ago, and clearly it hasn't happened.

Agreed, Alexa. I notice the self-promotional posts a lot, especially with new members. They post a lot of one liners that contribute nothing to the threads. I have often thought that signature links shouldn't be allowed until you've been a member for at least 6 months to a year.

Of course, it's not just new members who do it, unfortunately.

  Sometimes, and only if you report each post individually, you can manage to get some of them deleted (I think it depends which moderator's working) but it's undoubtedly an uphill struggle and something of a thankless task.

  I use staff-activated rather than member-activated profiles in my forum, and don't let them post until they've exchanged emails with a moderator. Result: zero spam (I think one post in the last 3 years).

@Terra, I have to say that is the first pink Santa's hat I've ever seen - very nice and suits you perfectly!

@Alexa, are the shoes trimmed with white faux fur as well?

Mine are. They are the cutest little slip on ankle boots. Pink suede trimmed with white faux fur, and with leather white laces tied into a bow with pink faux fur fuzzy balls that look like little bunny tails on the ends. Most importantly, just enough of a spike heel to make them sexy but not dangerous, LOL!

Hmm - I have a black pair just like that (with a higher heel).......but I doubt very highly that a matching black hat would be extremely seasonal - or relatively appropriate for this forum

It's rampant lately. Even my site has been getting hit and I NEVER get spam in there. Spent a good lot of time this weekend deleting new accounts.

What's worse - is, at least on my site, it's got some questions to get registered that you have to be human to answer, and they are changed now and again to prevent auto fill.

With the mods being paid in here now, I usually only report spam that is inside of threads instead of OP spam. I figure they can catch the OP spam fast enough themselves, but that inner thread stuff is really hard to spot.

BTW - Terra. I saw "Yikes" and I was worried about what I'd see when I opened this thread after our discussion the other day. LMAO. Still spooked.

It's a shame about the self-promotion, too - because I like to talk about my niche - because it includes some just very awesome experiences I have on trips I take -- and sometimes it was kewl being able to just hook up my link to my blog in here. It never used to be taken as self promotional, especially since I wasn't trying to sell anything and that most members wouldn't have wanted any affiliated products, but would get kicks out of the pics and stories. I can't do that now. I can understand why - but still find it a shame that I can't share a few of my trips out as easily as I used to be able to.

That is unfortunate, Sal, because what you describe isn't what I'd consider self-promotional.

It's all these members who contribute nothing to threads with lame one-liners - or start new nonsense threads - just to get exposure to their links. And do it regularly. Those get old really fast. But it's also very tedious to keep reporting them.
