What a GREAT gift idea!
She went to a train yard that is used to store old train cars and engines from various railway lines. My son's last name has nine letters in it. She took photos of each of those letters as they were painted on various rail cars in that "railroad graveyard".
Every letter is a different style - different color - different background. You can clearly see rivets and some rust and flaking and there no question when you look at the images these are letters painted on various colors of metal.
She printed each photo out as a 4x6 with each letter as one photo - and the letters are same size. Then she lined them up and cut a black double photo mat to space the letters properly and highlight them...and she framed it all in a wooden picture frame that is 12 inches high and over 50" long.
The result is a colorful, one-of-a-kind piece of wall art that spell out my son's family name using the 9 letters with a photo of each letter. It's colorful as the train cars were painted gray and red and yellow and blue...the letters are different styles and different colors.
This will end up a family heirloom - what a fantastic gift!
