Police: Girl, 5, dies after being thrown from Florida bridge | KSL.com

WOW, that is BAD! HOW MUCH trouble could you have had from a 5yo? She was at about the age where things should have started to get BETTER! She was STILL young enough that she was likely adoptable if he wanted to get rid of her.

    That is UNBELIEVABLE!

I heard about that earlier today, and it just made me sick to think a father (or anyone) could do that to a child. Here's an article that gives a bit more information, though. It sounds like he has some serious mental health issues, and his behavior was likely due to psychosis. Very, very sad.

    Yeah that was horrible.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

Plus that guy looks like a total psycho. He should never have been let out of the asylum let alone have kids. Plus his woman must've been crazy blind to have kids with a total psycho like that.

How many warnings do they need?

His lawyer called to say she thought the child was in danger - six instances of domestic abuse but no charges filed - several other people had reported him as unstable.

The system - child services and police - let this child fall through the cracks.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

The more I read about this the more it is apparent that the father was in a mental health crisis and nobody intervened.

He called his lawyer "God" and asked her to translate a Swedish Bible. When his lawyer advised him about paperwork she was going to file in his custody case he said "It's not going to matter any more". Which the lawyer said "really scared her" and she called emergency dispatchers.

Police interviewed him and he said he was fine and had "a new clarity" in his life.

The Florida department of Children and Families said they had received a call Wednesday saying the father was "depressed and delusional".

It was a crisis situation screaming for intervention and nobody cared enough to actually intervene.

He was fighting for custody? They should have said "FORGET IT! She now has a RESTRAINING ORDER, and you are not to come within 1000 feet of her!" They should have locked him up. In any event, the other person should have gotten custody, unless THEY were incompetent. Failing that, she should be put up for adoption. It isn't fair to the kid, but it IS in her best interest.

The florida department of "children and families" is saying they were told he was depressed and delusional? So effectively they KNEW that there was a chance he could view her as some demonic or rabid animal and feel an INTENSE desire to KILL her!!!!!!!!!!! I mean DELUSION means that he may view something as something quite different, and truly believe it! That is generally viewing the person as something BAD, ESPECIALLY when the person is depressed. Depression, in such cases, can lead to an aggressive action AGAINST such an object. Depression and delusions are RARELY good!

They should have had the police out there ASAP to investigate, and likely take the daughter into protective custody.

He wasn't fighting for custody. He had custody.

The mother was deemed an unsuitable parent because "(she) had an arrest record consisting of child neglect, petty theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, among other charges".

The father had custody and they lived with his parents.

WOW! Where did they meet? That little girl had VERY bad luck! The fact that the father had a child and was living with his parents is a bad sign ALSO! You would HOPE, though, that he could have simply let the child stay with his parents, and not have to worry. But I guess THEY are sorry ALSO.
