The silliest things that make you happy

So yesterday I was at the gym....

And I decided to try the chest press machine again.

Was able to do 20 pounds!

At my peak, I could do 110.

But you know something? With my condition, anything above 0.... makes me happy.

What silly things make you happy?

Heh. I post so much about on FB I figure its common knowledge.

I had an ankle fusion back in 2012 and currently carry more hardware in my leg than Home Depot.

So my walking abilities have been decreasing quite a lot. And will continue to decrease.

Couple that with depression over the years, brief suicidal thoughts, etc.etc.etc....

And yep. It's quite the hero's journey.

But! It makes for great posting on FB!

Interjecting between Claude and Dan, with a brilliantly whitty remark or graphic, does wonders for me.

I wrote a book titled; 1001 Ways To Ingest A Peanut Butter Cookie. Amazon kept getting complaints because only 56 uses involved eating the cookie. Don't ask.

I generally try to walk with a cane these days, get to the gym, and count my blessings. Although, when things get tough, I do release that energy by whining. The day passes and life continues.

NEver heard of those shoes, will check, thanks!

Glad you are getting around again! Just always remember this -- if I listened to my doctors, I'd have been dead before I got to high school, and again at the age of 33. If I had listened to doctors I might be crippled right now myself. After a car accident, they told me to stay off my feet. I bought a dog and started walking daily instead.

If your doctor gives you the wrong answer, just ignore him. Serious - your mind and determination will tell you what you can do and what you can't. Keep on truckin' -- and smilin'.

I had a moment or two of PURE HAPPINESS this morning.

I realized something unique has occurred.

I own NOTHING. i OWE nothing. I have nothing to maintain or insure or worry about or clean.

The sale of my house in MS closed yesterday. Enough to pay off the mortgage and commission which is what I wanted.

When changing the title of my car from MS to Ohio was detail-loaded....I transferred the ownership to my son and we were able to switch it easily. Adding the insurance for it to his large policy cost 1/10th of what I was paying in MS for car insurance!

Talk about a feeling of freedom! I'm sure eventually I'll buy a house or a new car or something - but for now, I'm lovin' it!

P.S. Honesty here - I still have twinges of regret when I think of something I used to own that I gave away or sold before moving here. They are fewer and fewer as time goes on.

Awesome, isn't it? I never got as far as the car, but just carry cheap insurance and the car is my freedom. All those rooms of furniture, though? All I kept was kitchenware because I like to cook and I like dinner parties so my china, crystal, and cookware are important to me on more than a material level. That and a few family heirloom items, and some hobby tools.

It's just astounding how attached we are to "stuff". Everyone should take an opportunity to break free from it at least once in their lives. It's an amazing experience.

Gee, this thread is getting too warm and fuzzy for my liking, (well l don't mind kitten videos) but tend to agree, a s***load of cash is good, but only if used to help others, and give the oil greedy sociopaths of this world a good kick!

        Hey Barb,
        More power to you.

You seem relatively young and I can relate. Im still in my 40s and have been dealing with severe Osteo Arthritis in my hips and some in my knees the last two years ( From running on roads since I was 7 or so)

It is a challenge to even tie my shoes. Anymore its bone against bone in my Hips with ZERO cartilage as the deterioration keeps getting worse and worse

But I keep moving forward and like you I still work out, 4 days a week right now.

Not only do others shake their heads, Iam not even sure how I do the Circuit Training with free weights. Considering I can barely pick up the dumb bell and hardly walk some days because of the extreme pain. But when it comes down to that moment to lift, somehow someway I manage to get it up. And always pressing forward

Anyway, thanks for the share and keep on keeping on

          Quite welcome!

Yep, passed the half century mark last year.

"It's not about what you can no longer do.....

It's about what you can do... instead.

I repeated that to myself last week while hobbling my way thru Costco. So simple, yet so true.

Not just puppies for me - although they bring me just pure joy. I like all live things. This summer I would sit in the yard and the lizards would come and see me. They always made me happy.

A favorite meal, a great song on the radio, waking up and seeing it's sunny outside, talking to a friend that lives far away on the phone.

A lot of little things make me happy.

I had a stupid grin on my face last night when I was watching a nature show about Koala Bears. Awwwwwww, how cute.....I thought to myself. These little guys make me smile.

Then the commentator brought up the fact that 80% of the Koala Bear population has an STD known as Chlamydia so many of them urinate on themselves and smell really bad and if that wasn't bad enough......when they're born, at some point, they eat their mom's poop.

    I wasn't smiling after I heard that....lol

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

You have to eat a lot of peanut butter cookies to gain weight in your head.

I called my mother this morning during my morning walk to tell her how much I love her and we had a really nice chat.

Hearing her say, "Thank you for calling, you've just made my entire day..." made me happier than anything else I could think of. I feel truly blessed that she's still in my life.

I'm going to drive down tomorrow morning and surprise her with some home made breakfast.

It's the simple things in life.......

when I get a text from my son that says "I love you, Mom" - those 4 words bring tears of joy to my eyes, and people would think I was nuts if they saw me kissing my cell phone after getting one of those
