Hey everyone!

I know that a lot (if not the most) Guys in here are from North America and I know that Football (you name it Soccer ) is not so popular there than here in Europe. Are here any People that are interested in it? And what's your favourite Team and/or League?

My Team is Borussia Dortmund from the German Bundesliga. I am a Fan and Member since 1992. We have a little hard Times at the Moment but i am optimistic that soon everything is good again.

So, what's with you?

    • I know, ManU is very popular outside of Europe. I think it's a great Team. I remember a Preason Game against Real Madrid in the US where they got up a new Record with People watching the Game live. I think it was in Michigan!? Over a 100000 People...that's a lot

I've yet to meet a Man U fan that actually comes from Manchester Lol.
Prefer Liverpool myself, I'm not from there either

Enjoyed watching PSG win last night.
Will give the "special one" something else to whinge about.

What do you think has gone wrong this season? From Europe's golden boys to mid table strugglers, it's been quite a turnaround. Does Klopp still have full support?

I used to be but now really only world cup.

Its difficult getting into any team when they are far away (I am US based). Soccer will never take off in the US without adjustments to the offside rule. We have too many sports where there is scoring and soccer games routinely have little or none.

I'm not sure that's the problem. The US have made great progress in growing the popularity of football. The governing body over there (the USSF) is a Fifa member, so there isn't going to be any changes made to the offside rule that isn't widespread across the globe. It just wouldn't be beneficial, particularly to a national team made up of domestic players.

Similarly, Europe has plenty of games that are very high scoring, but that doesn't affect the popularity of football. In the UK, Cricket and Rugby are massive. In Ireland, Rugby, Gaelic Football and Hurling are all particularly high scoring games, far more so than baseball or hockey. I genuinely don't think that's the reason.

It will be slow, but the transition has already started. The next move will be attracting footballers that, rather than being at the end of their career looking for one last big payday (Henry, Beckham, Keane, Villa, Lampard, Cahill, Nesta, Kaka), are in their prime and see the MLS as not being somewhere old pros go to die.

It has a long way to go, but I do think there's progress being made.

I never said it was going to happen or whether it was beneficial to anything but yep that IS the problem in the US - scoring. If you want to kid yourself thats fine but soccer is nowhere near to becoming a big deal here and people have been saying for decades it was catching on. You are not the first and you won't be the last I guess to think some big transition is happening but ask any regular sports fan in the US and they don't even know when the playoffs occur

You are not talking to a soccer novice either as your post seems to suggest you think I am.. Having lived outside the US I know, love and have played the sport but US sport fans don't want to attend sports games where theres a good possibility that few or no goals at all are scored and in many soccer games thats a distinct possibility. You could bring the biggest stars it won't compensate for that.

You can tell me about the popularity of sports in Europe and why that is but not the US where I live..

I think his and Liverpool's weakness is in the transfer market. We often seem to be a bit slow off the mark and end up overpaying for players. Plus we don't have the $$ that some of the clubs have at their disposal (Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd) and they are the clubs we are competing with.
I think you've hit the nail on the head. Transfers were your biggest issue this year. I'm not sure whether that was identifying the wrong players (Lovren), having to take punts on unproven players because you can't yet compete for the biggest (Markovic) or just bizarre board moves (Mario) but it wasn't a great summer.

I think you're right to support him. Markovic is showing signs of improvement, Can looks a player, and he's developing Henderson into a fantastic central cog while phasing out Gerard. He was so close to bringing you a league title - I think it only fair he gets the chance to keep building.

And don't forget the youngsters that came through the ranks.

It has a long way to go, but I do think there's progress being made.
I remember back in 77' when I was in grade school I joined AYSO. I really enjoyed it and trust me when I say this...people way back then were tooting about how Soccer was taking over in America.

We were all excited way back then. Pele was playing for the Cosmos and it was really huge, or so we all thought.

The fact is Soccer in North America has remained totally stagnant over those last 40 years.

Sure my kid and many American kids play it, but once they get into adulthood they don't.
There is just no interest in it.

People just do not see it as they do 'real' football, baseball, and basketball here in the States.

It will never take off like those sports.

Sorry folks, its just the way North Americans are hardwired
          Its not going to happen.

You watch the next 40 years, it will remain the same as it was 40 years ago.

          Going nowhere !!

P.S. As much as I did enjoy the World Cup last Summer and was excited to see US advance like they did, I can not even begin to remember the name of our spectacular Goalie. And honestly, I am not losing any sleep over that lapse of short term memory !

IMHO, American Hispanics are the only reason soccer is as popular as it is in the U.S.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens with the Hispanics of the U.S. and soccer in the U.S.

Will the next generations continue their love of soccer or will their kids eventually stop playing it and gravitate toward the big three American sports?

            Only time will tell.

yeah I agree. White kids are big into Soccer like always in US. But it is just a recreational distraction for a momentary time to keep kids busy during Summer and after school hours.

I think you make a good point. It's like American "football" or baseball over here, nobody's that interested. Basketballs a bit different I think but not sure why.

Out of all the players over the years that have played those sports I think I can name two names and that's Babe Ruth because I saw the film with John Goodman and the others Magic Johnson.

Liverpool fan here. It's been a mixed season for us so far, but things are looking up and we have a lot of young players coming through the ranks so the future is bright.

I watched Chelsea v PSG last night too. I actually used to quite like Chelsea a few years ago but for the last couple of seasons, they have become really annoying lol. WTF is wrong with Costa? The guy has some serious anger issues.

I'm not a massive football fan but do always watch England play for my sins and try to watch the bigger games if I can like Manchester United and Arsenal the other night. I prefer F1 myself.

I don't understand why people want football to become big in America? I think in many ways America is one of the most insular nations on the planet so what does it matter anyway?

Don't agree with the insular part but I do agree with the gist of the post. I guess its a money thing why so many people want it to be big here too. Football (And I do agree it has more right to the name FOOT ball) is so massive all over the world people should just forget about it being huge here too. Not going to happen anyway.

I'm just getting back into watching Soccer. I don't have a team, I prefer watching individual players as well as watching great team work. There are lots of players I admire, Neymar, Messi, there are so many good players.

In the last World Cup, I was rooting for Mexico to win because I thought they were good enough to win it. But alas, it didn't go down that way.

I play a lot of FIFA 15 on my Xbox One; it's such a fun game to play.

I used to play the game and watched just about every match that was televised. Nowadays I only watch the big international tournaments, such as the World Cup, Euro and the Asian Cup (Yay Australia - Asian champions).

At that level, matches can be very exciting even if it ends as a 0-0 draw.

No you're right I have heard the name Lebron James. Michael Jordan as well yes. Come to think of it I've heard of that other chap Dennis Rodman also. What I know about them I could write on the back of a postage stamp, twice.

I'm really pumped for today's big game - Liverpool vs Manchester United. This could be a really decisive game in the race for a top 4 finish. A lot of pressure on both teams especially since Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham all got 3 points yesterday....

    Come on Liverpool!

I'm just waiting for Barcelona to smash Real Madrid even tho I bet on Real Madrid because the odds were 4/1!

lol yeah I prefer Barcelona too. I can't stand Ronaldo and the rest of them at Real. But yeah, 4-1 is a good price. At least that way, you'll be happy whoever wins.
