Forgive my observation but are internet businesses or internet entrepreneurs not actively involved in internet marketing?

I was kind of thinking about this the other day. All of my income online comes from SEO. Not services I sell but the SEO I do to my own sites that generate leads, affiliate commissions etc, so although my income is from the Internet I don't really see myself as an Internet marketer because in my eyes I'm not really marketing anything. That's my opinion anyway about what I do.

      Edit:

But isn't doing things to generate leads and earn affiliate commissions not marketing on the internet? I'm not trying to be funny, just looking at it literally. I don't 'call' myself an internet marketer nor do I say that to others if they ask me but surely I am marketing on the internet. I don't rely on SEO, all mine is paid advertising but I'm still advertising on the internet. Isn't that marketing on the internet?

Or do you think the chap wanted to be networking with other internet businesses and that's what he mean't?

Forgive me, it is a Monday.

I think he made the mistake of posting in the Main Forum first.
After seeing some the half witted responses he probably (correctly) deduced that he's looking for a forum where he can get concise, intelligent answers that are not tainted by hidden agendas, misinformation and vapid conversation....

I wanted to see if there are forums that cater to online business owners. Maybe like the people you guys promote for.

Understood. I think you would have seen more of that here in the past. Unfortunately, the forum has been increasingly inundated with individuals who really don't have the first clue about starting or running a real business - online or offline. Many just want to "make money via the Internet". And that's impacting the type and quality of conversations that are dominating the main forum today.

I wish I had a good recommendation for you. If you find one, please let us know.

Now I think about it more I'm not sure what he meant really. I'm guessing he might have been thinking this forum seems more aimed at affiliates and he was looking more towards selling physical products online or something. I don't really go anywhere else here other than here ot a brief venture into the SEO section now and then.

I see marketing as more trying to get people to buy what you have to sell. I don't really see what I do as Internet marketing really although maybe it is. I just wouldn't call myself an Internet marketer, just I make/ earn money online.

I know what you mean Alistair, we can call ourselves whatever we want. I often just say I'm a pimp to break the ice if someone asks.

Re; here, I'm with you 100%, I only come here for a break and to have a chat/laugh or whatever else is happening. I used to help people in the main forum but I realised a while back it was more relaxed down here.

Have you tried Googling the search term business forum? I just did and saw a few possibilities.

I think it's faster to ask on a forum and come back the next day.

      What is this Google thing?

Well, a lot of businesses ARE involved with internet marketing, but not all internet marketing sites are involved with the minutia of business. And a decade ago it seemed more like they both were the same thing. In the US, it was CONSTANTLY likened to the wild west. NOW, they clearly aren't the same. HECK, it is near impossible to do things legally on the internet today. A couple sites were even created to handle the payment, of affiliates, and/or taxing, of customers, in certain limited areas, like the US. Of course there have been contact management systems to try to handle that side to some degree.

If you have a successful site, unless you are going to fantastic lengths, you are almost guaranteed to be breaking SOME law. Just TAXES are daunting. There are MANY in the US, and most people probably don't even know the counties they sell to in California, though that may be needed to figure out taxes there properly. That is just an EXAMPLE!

BTW if you DO want to be LEGAL in california, HERE is some info to help you out. This is just ONE of maybe 46 states in the US that have such taxes! BTW This IS the sales tax AUTHORITY for California!

    Publication 109 - Internet Sales

So if you have a physical presence, even if it is a table in a mall for christmas, that obviously INCLUDES affiliates also, in CALIFORNIA, or the item comes from a place that has a presence there, and would be taxable from a B&M there, it is TAXABLE! To figure the tax out, you ALSO have to know the county!
