I hope she spanks 'em good!

I'm sorry, her bank account probably points to the contrary.

Maybe that's what comes of having a squeaky clean reputation for real? If you know you never posed for nudes and never cavorted nude where others might snap you....what's to worry about?

Maybe there is ONE celebrity who had some sense after all.

I don't follow her music -- can't say that I particularly like it, but I from what I know, I would say it is safe to say that Taylor Swift is highly talented, creative, has a good musical ear (i.e. can actually sing without autotune which is increasingly rare nowadays), bright, and beautiful (duh).

Well, if that means something to you. It certainly doesn't to me. Since her bank account doesn't affect mine, I truly couldn't care less.

I was simply commenting on her being totally devoid of any real talent, in my humble estimation. Kim Kardashian is wealthy, also. So, what? :-)

More than 413 million views on one YT video alone...and it's not even her most viewed video. She has garnered 2.394 million likes on that same video, and her 11+ million subscribers on that channel ain't too shabby either.

It doesn't require being a sheep to understand that your preferences don't make someone else talented or talentless. You may detest her, yet it doesn't lessen her talent. I believe that's the point that is being made here.

I figure she's got talent because a lot of people enjoy her music. I don't really care for her, myself. She has good melody, and can carry a tune. I don't like her music, though. She's very popular with the young. Of course, that rules you and me out.

I might never listen to her, but I really respect a moral ethic that allows her to realize she doesn't need to act like a dog to make bank.

You see talent where I don't, but as usual around here, if you don't agree with what someone else prescribes as the proper school of thought, then you are somehow 'wrong.'

Like I said. You find her talented and I do not. Whatever happened to, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion?'' You can continue to beat a dead horse but it ain't ever getting up to run.

I agree with much of bizgrower's assessment above. Interesting for me to compare Bieber and Taylor Swift.

Both were self made - and succeeded due to pure determination. However, Bieber's goal was "rich and famous" and Swift's goal was "play my music".

Well, all I know is the the mother of one of her fans videoed a fan opening up a box from Taylor swift, for her birthday, IIRC! Taylor sent her like a shirt, jewelry, a nice letter, OH, and a check to pay off a chunk of her student loan! Even though the check wasn't quite $2000(though it may have been for the entirety that taylor knew about). The fact is that it was unexpected, unadvertised, and a nice and well received gift.

I don't know how much the idea of making money off of ex-boyfriends and the like tainted my appreciation of her, but she seems nice and generous. I hope she remains one of the few to not become tainted like Miley. If she doesn't, the hackers really will have NOTHING.

I have never said she doesn't, but does that mean that she has any actual musical talent? In your mind, possibly. In my mind - not at all. MY truth is she sucks and I'm sticking with that. I have never been impressed by anyone's bank account. I can't think of a more shallow may to measure a person. :-)

You know she sucks, but you're much to invested in wanting to argue than to say the words that have never passed your lips - "You're right!"

Wrong. Taylor swift has won so many music awards she needs a mansion just to put them all in. I got a little "truth" for you right here...

She's been nominated for (and won) so many awards it takes 282 footnotes just to cover them all. What I listed above barely scratches the surface.

Yep, 20 year old's, with little talent and good song writing skills that rake it in, is a cliche these days.

And rubbing this fact in to hard working individuals who earn a pittance by comparison doesn't help!

As is confusing popularity with talent. These are our 'deep thinkers' at work.
And rubbing this fact in to hard working individuals who earn a pittance by comparison doesn't help!
All they see is money and they equate that with talent and place it above everything else. If someone really feels that way - they need to make a bit more money until it begins to not have so much importance in their life as a way to measure success. By that measure I guess Donald Trump is a success, too. Would you want to be Donald Trump? I'd rather wake up in the gutter.

I don't know - maybe it's just me, but if it is, at least I'm in good company. :-)

I paid £3.80 for this plaice on the Isle of Sheppey in 2014, and I can confirm it was also a cash purchase. In fact it was just loose change, peasants.

Just to say I don't know anything about Taylor Swift other than when I saw her on the Graham Norton show a few months back or whenever it was, but she came across as a nice, down to earth young lady.

Just to say I don't know anything about Taylor Swift other than when I saw her on the Graham Norton show a few months back or whenever it was, but she came across as a nice, down to earth young lady.
She is very much a "down to earth, young lady." I was merely bringing up the fact that the fried flounder on that plate has infinitely more talent than she possesses. That's all. :-)

I like her talent. She is a skilled songwriter and performer and when she did a stint on one of the talent shows (forget which one) it was clear she knows and understands music thoroughly.

She knows the audience (young/female mainly) she appeals to and she seems down to earth in interviews and has a wicked sense of humor. She has a reputation for having a great work ethic and little ego which is unusual these days. I don't care for her music - but I think I'd like her if I met her.

...and she has a nice house...or two

I'm sure I would, too. That doesn't mean that I have to like her music or think that she's talented.

If you think she's talented, then to you, she is. If I think she sucks, then that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

I ask no one to agree with me. I ask only that I be granted the freedom to have my own firmly held opinion, regardless of what anyone else thinks about my opinion.

That seems like a fair way to live one's life. Or am I wrong about that, too?

Not a problem as long as he doesn't resort to the torture that is Taylor Swift. A man can only take so much cruelty.

Actually, my admiration and respect for Taylor is just about completely based on
the classy, hard-working person she seems to be. She is very pretty, wrote every
song (until recently when she has begun collaborating), and I do like a lot of her
music, but it's the genuineness of the person she is that wins me.

She's about as self-made as they come - especially in the music industry. Early
on turning down Sony because it would have been a career directed by handlers,
not what she wanted to do and be. The way she sticks up for her fans on social
media, giving them advice, getting to know fans and inviting them to one of her
homes, going into Children's hospitals to sing with/for the patients...

When the Instagram hack that released other celebs nudes' happened, I figured Taylor
would be smart enough not to have photos anywhere that could make it to the internet.
As Kay pointed out, she probably does not have any nudes anywhere. She did turn
down a million to pose in Playboy.

When it comes to talent, it is a to each his own thing. I never was a big fan of the
Beatles and Paul McCartney, but like Taylor, Paul has the grasp of the industry and
what will "make the whole world sing". And, as we all know he happens to be a
        billionaire. And Knighted.

Taylor is self-effacing about her dancing skills (or lack thereof), but she works her
tail off to orchestrate and pull off very complex performances in her concert tours
and videos. For the "Shake It Off" video she took lessons in all the dance styles
represented. Months of lessons for the ballet portions alone.

While maybe not so self-effacing about her vocal skills, she does work hard
via coaching to improve there as well.

To get on the public radar, she and her Mom toured radio stations to plug her music,
especially her song - "Tim McGraw". She baked cookies to get the interviews. I recall
in one such interview that the then 17 year old joked about how you better not mess
with her because she is a songwriter. I think that is where the 'make money of her
ex-boyfriends' tag kind of started. Don't all songwriters write from their experiences,
or from their empathy they have for people?

As far as her music goes, my favorites are "Tim McGraw", "Begin Again", "Back To December",
and "All Too Well". I won't torture Frank with those, but one can Google the lyrics, or watch the
YouTube to decide about writing and vocal talent. I also really like "Safe and Sound" from "The
Hunger Games", and "Everything Has Changed". I will post them because they are lesser
known and showcase her vocal talent.

OK - I will post this version of "All Too Well" because it's so good, IMHO, and because of the
way she gets the audience going at the beginning - just a nod and a look.

PS - none of the song I posted come under the heading of Pop or Bubble Gum.

I only know about one and a quarter of her songs, the Diet Coke commercial and Shake It Off. The latter is actually a cute, fun song and video. Mindless, bubble gum . . . sure. I don't know enough of her music to know if she's talented or not, but nothing wrong with a happy little song in an increasingly dark world.

But what do I know? I'm 51 and still dust off an old, scratchy Partridge Family album from time to time.

Thank you, sir. That was my only point and bone of contention.

I don't care how many people adore her, how many records she sells, how many mansions she owns, how large her bank account is and how many people think that she might be the most talented woman on the planet.

Musically, I believe she's talentless, as to what I consider talent, musically speaking. That's not going to change, unless her music does. Not saying she can't grow into an artist I would consider talented. I just haven't heard anything by her that would get me to say she has any talent at this stage. Confusing popularity with talent is just ridiculous. Her talent is presenting herself in a way that makes her appealing. That has nothing to do with musical talent, which I believe and my ears feel that she is basically devoid of.

          Enjoy your day.

          Cheers. - Frank

How can anyone make that much money and not hire someone to follow them around on New Years and hand them a jacket? Taylor, your managers let you down but if you pm me we can work something out so that never happens again.
