If you are a hockey fan, or even not, you'll be amazed by this goal by a Russian hockey player during a skills competition. I've been around hockey all my life and have never seen anything like this.


It happens fast, maybe too fast to see what he did. Essentially he comes in face forward, leans the stick way down between his legs in order to get leverage to slip the puck on to the blade, picking it up off the ice. At the same time he starts to turn backwards to the goal, still moving in.

As he lifts the puck, he starts a backspin which helps keep the puck sticking to the blade. As the stick comes up to shoulder level, he comes around and fires the puck off the blade sort of like a lacrosse shot, backwards. It goes in the upper left corner over the goalie's stick side.

You can see the stunned goalie had no idea what was happening. Amazing.
