This is simply to funny not to share.
I ordered some vent hole grommets for my drums last week and they were shipped Friday with a tracking number.
Now the company is in Pittsburgh Pa. and I'm by Albany NY, we're talking about a 500 mile trip.
Delivery was suppose to be on Monday.
The package has gone right over NY to Springfield Mass. then to Nassau New Hampshire. I checked the tracking number today and the package has finally arrived...............................in Guam

That is an awesome story. And I bet there are a million similar stories. I regularly buy items from ebay (to sell on Amazon FBA) and ebay is tied into USPS so a lot of ebay sellers ship that way. It is rediculus how poor they post office is. They generally take about twice as long as other shipping methods ie: UPS and Fed-Ex. I don't have any stories as silly as yours but I did tack a package that was shipped in Sacramento CA then went to Stockton and then later back to Sacramento and eventually it started to travel in my direction. 5 days wasted right there.
They do not update their tracking information well at all. They should consider using computers to track their shipments because it looks like they do not do so.

I normally don't have problems with the post office. When I was a seller on ebay I was shipping over 25 packages a week all through priority mail. Did that for 2 years with never a problem.
I did once have a problem where a substitute mailman pried open my front screen door to jam a package on my porch. I searched for three days for that one. My regular mailman and the UPS driver both know I don't ever use that door.
I do have issues with Fed Ex. I think they use a gps system in their trucks and the gps tells them my house is the next house up the road from me. It doesn't seem to matter to them that both my mailbox and my neighbors mailbox both have our house numbers on them.
This is just a small order for vent hole grommets for my drums. The total order with shipping was under 20 bucks.
Now I do have to more orders in transit, one is around $200 and the other $80. If they get side tracked I'll go ballistic on them

I must have a mighty popular address on the street. I get mail for neighbors addressed to my house, and lots of mail for someone who has never lived here. That doesn't even count the stuff that is carelessly delivered here and doesn't belong to us.

Last year I ordered about 6-8 packages from a department store, and it took forever to get my orders. I've learned that free shipping always means via the slowest way possible, whether via mail or one of the shipper services.

Today, I watched the USPS delivery person (they are always different people) rip off a sticky note addressed to the Post Office from a piece of mail to stop delivering for the one who has never lived here and paste it on my mailbox. Yeah, like that is going to stay there.

          Et cetera.

Glad I don't have any USPS horror stories. I have both shipped and received chicks and mature chickens via USPS, all alive and well. I got a trio of mature chickens shipped from CA a year ago. They arrived the next day after shipping. Of course they are going Priority and it costs considerably more, but they are pretty diligent when they know it's a live package.

I ordered some bottles of E-Cig fluid from Shanghi . It was cheap, even though the only real option was a cheaper 8 day Fedex delivery. I saw it had gone all over the place, eventually it arrived in the US somewhere and was sent to the Conroe TX office. At last, will get it the next day I thought.

The morning it was supposed to come the wife got a phone call from a local business. They had received my package.

      And that was Fedex.

Like I said this was a rare occurrence for me. I've also done business with this company before and if the package isn't delivered soon I'll just contact them and they will reship.
I still prefer items shipped through USPS.
I've had worms shipped here before using USPS and they arrived promptly. UPS is usually pretty good also. The only problem with them is they don't show up here till around 6pm.
Fed Ex is the only carrier I really don't like.

FedEX is the worst. My father is an FFL and has used them to ship out rifles that he has built. They broke every one and refused to pay even though they were insured. He's retired now, but he had to go to breaking the rifles down instead of shipping them assembled.

I think Australia Post can beat USPS.

When I lived in Sydney, I was sent an ordinary letter from a local business that went via Japan and took just over three weeks to get to me.

The reason it beats yours is that the company could've got someone in their office to hand deliver it to me. They'd have walked out of their office, dropped it in my mail box and been back in their office in the space of about five minutes. Yep, the company's office was about 200 metres away from my place.

OK! I will NEVER forget when I had a package shipped from NY to IL, via UPS! I picked the most economical TRACKED method, but the company had OTHER plans! It was shipped, and got closer, closer, closer, and then it waited! It was handed off to USPS, WITH THE INCORRECT ZIP CODE!!!!!!!

OK, there is a system that has been in use for about 52 years! It was called the "Zoning IMPROVEMENT Plan"! It boils down to a number today called the ZIP code! EVENTUALLY, there is a code called the ROUTE code. That breaks down to addresses, etc... But FORGET all that, there is that pesky ZIP CODE! A given ZIP code is for a particular city. EVERYONE knows this!

OK, OK, SOME companies neglect to deal with that, but ONE company *****ABOVE ALL***** is MANDATED to deal with it, and has been for over FIFTY YEARS! The US Postal Service, or USPS for short!

Anyway, it seems like many deliverers now use the USPS to finish shipping on some cheaper plans. As I was saying, the company I ordered from messed up ZIPCODES, and never checked! They handed it off to UPS, which NEVER checked! They handed it off to USPS which NEVER CHECKED! The USPS used the zipcode to route to the shippers route, and found THE CITY DIDN'T EXIST!!!!!!

THEN, I had them try again, and they said next time I should try one that could be tracked. I DID the LAST TIME! They tried sending it out AGAIN, with the correct zip code, but the postman said he delivered it and the people that were there to receive it said he DIDN'T! IT WAS LOST! People were spreading rumors about what must have been shipped that I cared so much about it. I had plans for this electronic component, and was going to get back into electronics as a hobby, paid over $100 for it, and the shipping companies were playing keep away. ALSO, I didn't know how long I was going to be there. It was to take THREE days to successfully get it,and it took over 2 months to attempt it twice, and I gave up.

BTW GUAM, as a US possession, should be on the ZIP code, and probably succumbed to the SAME garbage!

BTW a KID could EASILY create a program to compare the state and city to the zip, and kick it out if they don't match. The hardest part is getting the file, which the USPS created over 52 years ago and updates to this day! So WHY can't the USPS do it? WHY can't UPS do it? WHY couldn't SPARKFUN? What is SO hard about doing something that a person in programming class for more than a week should find EASY to do?

I had a similar experience with FEDEX when I ordered a mic stand from ebay. It shipped out of California, then "I forgot what other states" then finally arrived in Wichita Kansas which is where it was supposed to go before going to my local post office.

Well instead of going there it headed over to Oklahoma, then Arkansas, Then Texas after that wound up in Florida, back to Wichita and then over to Colorado, then back to Wichita again and finally they delivered it.

It took over a month to finally arrive. I didn't know if the tracking was wrong or what. lol

That mic stand sure took a trip.

My last experience with USPS was when someone on my website cut some rocks for me then shipped them back to me. The package, after 3 weeks, ended up back at his house and he called me for the "right address" - which happened to be the one that was on the package.

We got an early "delivery" today. You never know when the mail will be delivered. It's anywhere between about 3:30 pm and 6. My husband said, "oh look, there's a different guy on today and he's wearing a ball cap." It wasn't the mail delivery person at all, but someone who was nice enough to drive over to our house and deliver yet another piece of mail that belonged to us. It is 5:30 now and we are still waiting to get the real USPS mail delivery.

Any confidence in the system is slowly draining all away.

Mine usually comes between 12 and 2. Today I got the drum lugs I ordered the same day as the grommets and that were shipped on Monday from Cal.
I sure wish I could buy this stuff locally but the other drum builders I know all buy their supplies from the same companies I do.

USPS can be crazy sometimes. I've had packages sent from 50-ish miles away travel half-way across the country before finally reaching me. I've had tracking show a package as being 100s of miles away, when in reality it was already delivered.

I've found that usually they're pretty good with delivery and tracking, but sometimes they can be comically way off!

I've been using USPS as one of my primary shippers for over 2 1/2 years and have never had any trouble until recently - twice.

The first time the postal clerk accidentally entered a 9 instead of a 3 as the first number of the destination zip code and instead of going to Alabama, my package ended up in California! They shipped it back to me at their expense but I still had to get the order out asap and couldn't wait, so I had to pay an additional $17.90.

Now I have an order that had two identical medium flat rate boxes going to the same destination in Oklahoma. One arrived in two days (Friday). The other was supposed to arrive on Saturday, but somehow this one didn't get scanned in when it arrived in Oklahoma. USPS has record of it leaving Phoenix the night after I shipped it but now it's nowhere to be found. I may have to put in a claim and ship the order again.

Needless to say, I ain't very happy with them right now. Grrr...

Well, looks like I've turned into a chronic complainer. Yet again, today, another piece of mail that belongs somewhere else in the same zip code has been delivered. Perhaps the post office will begin paying me for "handling mail" for them? Hahaha, fat chance of that, but it truly is annoying.

They COULD use late 20th century technology to read a special code that users can create the same way. This could route all properly marked packages ONE way, and kick out the others another, and email/call the sender!

SUPPOSEDLY, they have ALL the hardware to do this ALREADY in place! They just need to tweak it, and get senders to comply. THINK OF IT! A package would have to be marked with even the correct city to be processed and, once there, it SHOULD be easy to get it to the address. The postal workers wouldn't even really have to know this is happening!

                This is not a joke.

Today, I went to the post office to mail a bunch of letters, and buy stamps.

I asked "How much are stamps now?"

The nice lady (who I know slightly) said "49 cents"

I said "Are you serious? forty nine cents? That's outrageous! And for that much money, all you do it take a letter....and hand deliver it to anyone else in the entire country, within just a few days. Is that what you're telling me?".

She was laughing, and said "Well, I guess".

I mail a package to California. It makes the entire trek in 3 days (From Ohio), is tracked every step of the way, and costs me $18 to ship.

That's about the closest thing I can get to a miracle.

Added later; The reason I even said it to the lady, is that the last customer was complaining to her about the cost of a stamp. I need to even the universe out.

The package arrived in Albany today so it looks like it's worldly adventure is almost over. Only 15 (approx.) more miles to go.

I still think the post office is the best deal for the money.
Like I said when I was an ebay seller I sent out approx. 25 packages a week for two years by priority mail and never had any problems. That was mostly depression glass and there was never a breakage.
These grommets are the exception to the rule.

My second package finally arrived in Oklahoma yesterday - 6 days late. I just spoke to my customer and he said the box had busted open, it looked like some of the contents were missing (a sack of expendable items) and that the USPS workers had put the entire mess into a plastic bag and said "here you go!"

I offered to send him another box for free, but he refused. He said it wasn't my fault, which it's not, but it is. As the seller, I'm ultimately responsible for getting him exactly what he ordered intact, so I'm going to send him a new box at no charge today because it's the right thing to do. I look at the lifetime value of customers, not just one sale.

Once again, this is only the second time I've had any trouble with USPS, so I really can't complain after 2 1/2 years of great service. Still, I have them on my radar now. They can be replaced, and will be, if stuff like this continues.

Last October I shipped ahead a trade show display booth via Fedex for a conference I was exhibiting at in Las Vegas.

    Yep. They lost it.

Made it all the way to Vegas, then disappeared into thin air.

It was awesome. Row after row of companies exhibiting their wares. And then me. A sad, empty space with a table. To top it all off, the stress helped push me over the edge into a full-blown sinus infection.

I estimated about $5k in expenses for me to be there. And I felt like crap. Stressed. Sick. Dejected.

I made a new friend in the Fedex rep who was charged with finding it for me. I spoke to her every day for weeks, even if it was just for her to tell me they hadn't found it.

Eventually, they did find it. Just a few miles away from the conference hotel, in a Fedex lost package facility.

The best part? They returned it to me. Then denied my claim. Because they returned it to me.

Jack I won't buy from anyone that only uses FedEx for delivery.
It's almost guaranteed they'll deliver to the wrong house.
How this package managed to travel around the world is a mystery to me that I doubt I'll ever solve. The address label is machine printed with big letters, in fact the label is as big as the package.

GRRRRRRRR, our mail was delivered across the street yesterday and our neighbor brought it over. I'm still waiting for our water bill and if it doesn't get here soon, I'll have to call the company and see when it was sent out.
