It would be more impressive if it was the dog who was pregnant.

You're right - I'm not surprised. Anyone who has loved a dog isn't surprised. Rottie's though are big enough and strong enough to really fight for you. All of my dogs have been very protective of "mom". Blitz was the most gentle though. If you were to have reached out toward me, he'd grab your arm and hold it very gently and if you tried to pull your arm away he'd just continue to bite down continually harder until you stopped trying to get away or until I told him it was okay. If I was asleep, you didn't get into the bedroom. At all. My late sweetie even would have to call out to me to wake up so he could come in if I fell asleep before he got in bed. Munchie would let nobody in the car. Ever. I had to take him out of the car and let someone get in, then let Munch in. He was serious about his ride to the mountains. Even Ricky, who was only around 70 pounds and extremely old was protective. Dogs know who loves them.

I have heard of stories like that before too and it is great news. Dogs are highly intelligent (some more than others) but they prove themselves if facing such a situation because they know love is a powerful emotion and they fiercely protect their owners.

Well, a lot of animals are pretty smart, it is just the dumb doctors who classify brain size with intelligence, although l would agree with them that slugs are dumb!

A case is Sparrows, you would think, small brain, dumb, but that is not the case.

I watched a clever sparrow in Bunnings, (massive hardware store for US members) in the coffee shop, and he hovered just before the coffee and cake part of the shop, trying to see around the corner to see if the staff, that try's to scare them away is waiting.

If not, then he would get stuck into the crumbs on the boards, etc.

After all Muffin crumbs are pretty tasty!

      Small, but clever!

Like the old sports cliché tells us, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog:

And speaking of rotties and Chihuahuas, here's a rottie saving his Chihuahua buddy from a coyote:

If you want a smart dog with a goofy sense of humor and that will protect you, get a rottie.

That's true, Kurt. It doesn't matter what size a dog is - it will try its best to protect you. It is, however, the bigger brutes that have a better time of actually being able to do so.
