Okay, time to tackle singers. Let's start with the ladies. In no special order
except for number 1.

Annie Haslam (from Renaissance)
Barbara Streisand
Linda Rondstadt
Kate Bush
Judith Durham (from The Seekers)
Janis Joplin
Diana Ross
Gladys Knight
Roberta Flack
Joni Mitchell

If you never heard Annie Haslam sing, you missed something truly
wonderful.

Okay, your turn. I know I left out a lot of great talent.

Forgot about Celine. She's probably got the best voice of all the singers
      around today.

Cripes, how could I forget one of my favorites...Karen Carpenter?

What a sad and tragic life that was and one of the most wonderful
voices ever to grace the radio.

Yes, Whitney had a hell of a voice, even though I personally didn't like her.

Something about her just grated on my nerves.

I'm the same way about Mariah Carey. Awesome voice, too bad it comes out of that annoying although well maintained package.

Is this favorites or best? Someone like Beverly Sills (opera singer) probably has a better voice than most, but I'm not into opera and don't listen to her.

    Anyway...

I like Donna Summer's voice, but don't like disco. I also like Debra Harry's voice, but not into Blondie at all. Same with Diana Ross. If I could just get these ladies to sing the blues.

KoKo Tayor - Most wouldn't consider her a great voice, but she's one of my all time faves. She died recently. RIP

All in all, I prefer strong voices, such as Etta James and Aretha (and KoKo). I prefer "old school" voices...By this I mean singers that could fill a room with sound before microphones and amplifiers were created. Today, you can whisper and be considered a singer with all the modern electronic help.

Honestly, I'm not really into vocalists, but this is my favorite female vocalist song of all time....I especially like the last minute where Etta does her own version of scat.

Karen, Melanie Sofka had one unusual voice, didn't she?

        And her songs?
