Prayers for Gabbie, please

Hi,

Any prayers you can share for our little Gabbie dog would be appreciated! We are fostering her right now. And here's her short story:

Gabbie is 8 years old, a sweetie - a small 40-pound black lab who was rescued by authorities and taken to our local Humane Society for help. Her male owner left her in a cage to live in her own filth, and he starved her. When authorities brought her in, she was emaciated, mostly bones.

She has weight on her now and is overcoming some sickness, physically and emotionally. So prayers for her would be very appreciated. She's by me now as I type the keys on my computer.

We 're praying that she overcomes her fear of people, mainly men, and that she can find peace and joy in life again. Overall when she's with our other dogs here, she loves to play. But inside, she sits by me and has her tail down when pacing or walking paths or circles, as dogs can do (even have seen wolves do that at the zoo).

Thanks in advance for any prayers posted here or mentioned in the heart, etc. Gabbies a sweetie!

What a splendid looking little furball!

You are asking for our prayers? It would appear to me that her prayers were answered the day you found her. The universe smiles on those with hearts that heal the helpless.
You and Gabby have been mutually blessed. I can feel your joy at her recovery all the way over here!

God bless Gabbie. Her scars will get less as time goes on. Amazing what love and food can heal. I wish I could give her a big hug and maybe get a kiss.

I rescued the biggest lab puppy I have ever seen from the middle of the street (playing chicken with cars). When I took him to the Shelter they said people almost always claim Labs, more than any other breed. (and they did the next day)

So if you are forced to give her up, there is a good chance someone will adopt her. Like you, if I ran a foster home, I would want to keep all of them, and letting each one go would be a major bummer...

I love watching Animal Planet and the various rescues - the part where they get better, and most of all when they arrest the abuser. Too bad we live in a so-called "civilized society" because it would be more fun to inflict on them whatever they did to the dog.

Keep up the good work, Diana.

        Diana -

You know you'll have to keep her unless you find someone very special to adopt her. Taking her to a shelter or any cage will likely undo the progress she's made. If she's staying by you she trusts you and that's not easy for her to do after years of abuse. She may always fear men in general but in time would be likely to accept one or two special men as trusted friends.

What a lovely face she has. She had a lot of hard years and I'm so happy she has a better future in store. Give her a hug for me.

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.

Diana - first of all, you rock and there's a special place in Heaven for you (or whatever positive afterlife you prefer ).

I worked in our county shelter and served on the board and volunteered. They are my donation recipient of choice. I have to tell you it takes a strong person to be able to see the less than savory side of humanity and still be able to open your heart to an animal in need.

I'll say it again, you rock!

I'll definitely say a little prayer for Gabbie, too. If she can't stay with you, may she find a loving a devoted home with someone who understands the value of loving and caring properly for their animals.

I also would like to extend my prayers to Gabbie.. I pray for her fast recovery and I'm sure God will give her a good, loving owner and something she can call home.. The previous male owner would soon realize his mistake..

I am sure Gabbie will be fine as she has the medicine needed to heal, your love. About eight years ago my Mother took a female Doberman from a rescue center. Gypsy was in very similar condition, skin and bone so bad you just wanted to cry looking at her.

She was starved and abused, we could tell by the scar on her backside that could have only been from a cigarette being put out on her. For Gypsy it was a woman abuser because in the beginning other my Mom she would attack any female that came into her home.

After a few months of being loved and knowing she had a home with caring people it stopped. She now is completely healed, reformed and a great pet whose favorite people are my 9 + 5 year old daughters. There is sadness in her again like there is for our family. My Mother passed away a few months ago, but Gypsy is still healed. I believe Gabbie will be fine for the same reason. She found love and a home, now it just takes time.
