Complementary and alternative immunotherapy to cancer

Right, I have been given an essay for one of my last final year projects at uni which assesses the advantages and dangers of alternative and complementary immunotherapy. Just encase you don't know the differences between the two: complementary are treatment which work along side traditional treatment; Alternative is something which replaces traditional treatment.

So here's my question, have you had any experience with either complementary or alternative medicine? What sorts of trearnents do you beleive work? Are they backed up by actual facts?

I just thought it would be interesting to get others points of view on this other then Google. I would assume various treatments would be more commonly attempted then others so I am looking for relevance. If you could state the cancer your talking about to that would be great, since I plan to narrow down treatments to one cancer.

(The vaccination post gave me the idea to post this here since I know there will be alternative views.)

"Alternative" is another word for "unproven".

Once a treatment is actually proven, by reliable, reproducible, double-blind, controlled clinical trials, it becomes "orthodox"/"conventional", rather than "alternative", by definition: especially in these litigous days, if the medical profession doesn't make it available, once that's happened, they'd get sued to kingdom come.

    That's putting it mildly.

There are even one or two people here who imagine that cures for cancer are deliberately being repressed, as part of a conspiracy, for political/economic/social reasons. In my circumstances (both as a patient myself, and having a degree in the subject, as well as working toward another one), I don't appreciate those delusions at all, so I may not post here again, myself, but good luck with your research and dissertation, Lee, and you know how to find me, if I can help.

This is very true... Unfortunately I get the joy of posing both sides of the arguement , after seeing the vaccination thread, I am sure I will definetly get both of them sides!
