In a nutshell, Waze allows drivers to report on road hazards, traffic jams, accidents, and of course police activity.
The officers downloaded the Waze app onto their smartphones and are now flooding it with false data to obfuscate police locations and insert bogus road/traffic alerts.
The details are here.

I see panicky cops here to be honest

The way citizens have been turned into ATM machines for the corporate state makes me sick to my stomach. Our police force isn't supposed to exist solely to extract money from citizens. It's got to be hard fighting crime when your job depends on stopping people for victimless crimes so the top dogs can afford their BMWs.

Yes this is a problem with the police and is probably part of the very definition of "police state" when they do things like this.

As for proving that the police were the ones that did this I expect that could definitely be documented and proven if needed.

If something made traffic do the speed limit what's the problem? Again, If it actually happened they would have been doing their job otherwise traffic could care less & keep speeding.

BTW, you don't have to use the app.

If the speed limits were reasonable, then the police would be obeying them too.

I guess the best solution is to not speed, have your tags renewed, get your inspection stickers and have all your lights working. They can't do anything about loss of ticket income then.

If they're that desperate for revenue, they'll soon find a way around that.

That is not possible! They have ways to make you speed, or can simply report it. They can do the same with the others. Besides, they may herd cars into a place and do a closer inspection. They have before. Heck, they can get really specific and say you crossed a line, didn't stop, gunned prior to a red light, etc... If it comes down to simply the word of you and the cop, the cop will probably win.

What a crock. Actually Steve, I expected the admonition to obey traffic laws to be highly unpopular and full of stuff like .... cops make you speed (yeah, like when you're fleeing from the scene of a crime, maybe) in the Off Topic forum.

No cop has ever made me speed and I never got a ticket that I didn't deserve. I don't get tickets any longer. It's called behavior modification.

Does this mean no coppers are corrupt?

I only say that as I watched Wolf Creek 2 earlier and there were some corrupt coppers who gave the main character a ticket when he wasn't speeding. Sadly for them, they both ended up dead as the main character is a bit of a fruit loop.

Don't mind me though Suzanne, just thinking out loud. There must be a few dodgy ones in real life though? That was just what I took Steve to mean.

In fairness the only copper that made me speed was chasing me, hence why I went faster. That was the day I realised when they did that it wasn't actually a game.

I've grown up a bit since then.

What does that have to do with traffic tickets? States make the traffic laws. Cops only enforce them and they are given quotas to make in order to keep their jobs or at least to do well in their jobs.

Of course some cops are corrupt but it goes far beyond traffic tickets. Take killing and assaulting unarmed people for instance. Take falsifying evidence for another instance. Take plain flat out lying in court for instance.

Traffic tickets aren't the problem with corruption in law enforcement.

I have to file this one under "don't care". There are times (civil unrest, violent protests, etc) when I fully support blanking out info about police locations.

If you aren't obeying traffic regulations you are putting others at risk...so I don't much care if you get caught or ticketed.

Ok, but how about if you're trying to get to work on time, and the police have a roadblock that is backing up traffic for more than 30 minutes?

Don't you think that would be prudent info to have?

My post was mainly tongue in cheek but never mind. My post had everything to do with traffic tickets, it was all about Police issuing traffic tickets, in my example and the one Steve mentioned, speeding.

Of course some cops are corrupt but it goes far beyond traffic tickets. Take killing and assaulting unarmed people for instance. Take falsifying evidence for another instance. Take plain flat out lying in court for instance.
Yes I agree, that wasn't what I was talking about. We're on traffic tickets. That's why the first words of your response to me were - What does that have to do with traffic tickets?

              Steve said this...

He was talking about speeding which I assume can get you a traffic ticket (if a traffic ticket over there is something else, my apologies something has got lost in translation).

              You responded to Steve with...

That sounds like you're disagreeing with Steve that some police may give you a speeding ticket even if you're not speeding on account that it's never happened to you.

I was merely suggesting that I'm sure some coppers have nicked perfectly innocent people for speeding and perhaps if it's never happened in America, I'll bet you anything they've done it over here.

Traffic tickets aren't the problem with corruption in law enforcement.
I know Suzanne, I was just pointing out Steve had a point regarding speeding tickets. I'm well aware how some police operate and it's well beyond the law regarding truly corrupt practices. I was simply responding in a light hearted manner to Steve and your points on speeding.

All that said, I still disagree that cops make you speed, which is what Steve said and I disagree that this is a problem at all, regarding the title. Simple solution. Obey traffic laws. I know plenty of people who have never gotten a traffic citation ... ever and I'm close to being one myself. I got one speeding ticket because ..... uh, I was speeding. That was enough for me. I stopped speeding.

My Mom just got her first ticket two years ago at the age of 78. She resided in the fact she was deserving of the ticket but being the "no one is a stranger" attitude she casually commented in a non threatening way to the Cop as he was writing up the ticket that this was going to be her first one in over 60 years of driving

The dumba$$ disrespectful pr@ck told her "Thats what they all say " and handed her the ticket and sped off

As for the cops lying to waze? Proving they did that at all requires cooperation that might not be there. But that is EXPECTED AND WELCOME, ****IF**** the data is true. You have to prove they knowingly sent incorrect info, and that is hard to prove.

Well, to add such technology, for the average person, is VERY difficult! If caught, you could be sued, and possibly jailed, and of course it could be backed out. Funny thing, there IS a law placed on the books DECADES ago that makes it a crime to change a system you don't own, or have authority to change. It was added after that kid created that worm as a lark! Interestingly, there apparently was ANOTHER set of rules passed earlier that he was convicted on: Morris worm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia And it wouldn't be retroactive. So I don't know what your point is. But the fact is that the caller ID can be blocked down the line. STILL, what does caller ID have to do with ANYTHING? Are you suggesting that the government mandate that such services add caller ID, and that all associated with the police have their phones registered and be prohibited from using such services? This ALSO means, of course, that no related office should have the ability.
