Their donuts are so good that they could have Hitler as their spokes person and people would still buy their donuts.

Krispy Kreme went broke in Australia because of how crappy their donuts are.

You might just as well eat a bag of sugar. The only purpose they serve is to make McDonald's taste like haute cuisine.

Their donuts are so shitty they could have (insert name of wonderful person here) as their spokesperson and they'd still have gone tits up.

Wow what a difference a taste bud makes. I've never really eaten their donuts.

Do you have dunkin donuts down under?

Various countries outlaw various ingredients. The way things are going, crispy creme may soon have to change its recipe in the US.

There might still be a few in Victoria, l am pretty sure l saw one in Melbourne, recently?

But, l wouldn't try one, cream in a dunut!!!!! A heart attack in the making!

One business that did collapse was the Cup Cake franchise! Not sure US residents have that one, but when l first saw it, l thought, bound to fail, l mean who is going to eat a dreary cupcake when you can get freshly baked Muffins, or dunuts of course!

Cup cakes? I'd never heard of that one, although I was reading recently about Pie Face (makers of over priced gourmet meat pies) going out of business. I guess Aussies prefer the good old fashioned Four N Twenty's

Exactly... I've never tasted a doughnut as good as the original Krispy Kreme Glazed doughnut fresh out of the oven. They must have $hit bakers over there

No I think it's the same taste. I just think most Australians traditionally prefer cinnamon donuts which aren't so sweet..

A number of US chains have struggled here. 7-11 almost vanished before the recent resurgence as gas stations. Starbucks has just a few stores, and Taco Bell packed up and left.

I can't remember the last time I had a Krispy Kreme donut. Their plain glazed donuts, fresh out of the oven, are to die for!!

Not sure what they're selling in Australia, but I've never met anyone here who doesn't rave about Krispy Kreme donuts. When I used to work in the ER, every so often someone would bring a box in early in the morning and it would be empty within minutes.

I know their initials are KK and KKK stands, to them, for Krispy Kreme Klub ... but do they live in a bubble? How could they not realize what KKK conjures up in the minds of many people? They should fire whoever makes decisions like that.

Frankly, KK was too close to home. But naming a business CAN be difficult. KREME is oddly spelled, they could have had three Cs.

As for the donuts, those that REALLY love them try to get them hot off the conveyor.

Not quite, while they did close a bunch of store back in 2010, you can get Krispy Kreme doughnuts all over Australia.

Krispy Kreme's 2014 Australian opening in Whitford City, Hillarys on November 26, 2014 was the biggest day of doughnut sales in their history -- a record 73,200 donuts were sold. That's the most successful day in their 77 year history. Australians were slamming those donuts down!

Some Australians love Krispy Kreme donuts so much they were fighting over them in Adelaide...

Fights, armed hold-ups, customers sleeping overnight and thousands of dollars in parking fines - it's just another day at Australia's newest Krispy Kreme donut franchise.

Police have been called to the outlet more than 20 times since the store - the first in South Australia - opened last week.

As well as breaking up brawls between impatient customers who had queued for hours and investigating a robbery during which two teenagers were robbed of their donuts at knifepoint, the local council in West Croydon, Adelaide, has issued 145 fines totalling $21,000 to drivers who parked illegally to get their hands on the sugar-loaded treats.

In Sydney they opened up a load of stand alone stores, which did lose money. So they shut those down and moved into established 7/11 outlets it appears. I'm not sure how they'll fare in those as 7/11's are the sort of places people go to at 3am when nothing else is open

So, they had a bumper opening day in Whitford's. eh? Hardly surprising given the blanket media coverage that that store's opening had. It was a major item on all three of the local commercial TV station's evening news bulletins, which also illustrates how shitty Perth's commercial TV outlets are.

I see you've added some more info about their Adelaide opening. That doesn't surprise me either, as that is probably the highlight of the cultural year in that part of Adelaide, similar to the opening of the opera season in London, New York or Paris. I see that the locals reacted to it in their usual manner as well.

Anyway, I don't care how many stats, graphs and chart porn gets thrown at me, I remain resolute that their donuts are inedible.

      Keep it coming though .

Krispy Kreme nearly went belly up, but is making a comeback. Dunkin Donuts, who has what I consider lousy donuts, has outstanding coffee. Krispy Kreme didn't serve great coffee. A lot of US stores closed when the nation got on at Atkins no carb kick.

They have managed to turn the company around.

Yeah, they closed a couple dozen stores and then went into 600 Australian 7-Elevens several years ago. They are still in those 7-Eleven stores today so obviously people are eating the donuts.

When they closed those stores back in the day they cited high rents, high distribution costs, and poor sales in some locations. Some industry analysts say they screwed up going to big to fast...

They were profitable in 2014, and they are one of the biggest fast food chains on earth, so that tells us people are eating the donuts.

Back then they had 224 store serving 311 million in the USA (1 store per 1.4m people). In Australia they went really big with 50 stores serving 21 million (1 store per 420K people)....

Anyway, 7-Eleven is now slinging donuts for them 24/7 at 600 locations... Slurpees and Krispy Kreme....what more could one want at 4AM.

Krispy Kreme just opened their 1000th donut shop... That number includes factory stores and satellite shops but not outlets like 7-Eleven. Krispy Kreme is now serving 24 countries...

Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, the Republic of Korea, Qatar, Russia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

No problem, we get it...you don't like Krispy Kreme donuts.

As far as donut shops go....Dunkin' Donuts is an industry giant that has over 7,600 locations. That said, the average Krispy Kreme location does three times the revenue that a Dunkin' Donuts shop does.

As far as donut flavor goes, raised and/or glazed donuts are some of my favorites, and I don't drink coffee, so Krispy Kreme donuts are just fine with me.

Krispy Kreme has been profitable in each of the past 4 years....the data below is from their 2014 annual report.

Well, they've corrected their coffee mistake. After 14 quarters of loss, they're in the black now. The store we had down the road closed up. I was sad to see it go. There's literally nothing like the taste of donuts hot off the conveyer belt. You won't get that at a Dunkin Donuts or nowhere else that I have access to.

Short-sellers swarmed Krispy, and were vindicated in 2004 when the company reported its first quarterly loss since going public. Later that year, the Securities and Exchange Commission opened an inquiry into accounting irregularities. As stores shut down and rumors of bankruptcy swirled, the market increasingly saw Krispy Kreme as another fast-food flameout. The stock hit bottom at $1.08 four years ago.

A lot has changed since. Krispy now trades for $13.25 a share, up more than 60 percent from a year earlier. New management has returned the company to profitability after 14 quarters of losses. International franchises kicked in $4.3 million in operating income in Krispy's latest quarter; in the U.S., where the company owns many of its stores, franchises contributed just $1.2 million.

FTR, that quarterly loss streak was stopped many years ago, I believe the streak ended the first quarter of 2009.

I know Brewster resigned in 2008 after like 13 straight losing quarters, by the fourth quarter 2010 they had 5 straight quarters of same store sales increases, and they had things basically fully turned around by 2011. By mid-year 2013 they had posted at least three straight years of year-over-year revenue and gross profit growth, 18 straight quarters of same-store sales increases, and the stock had hit an 8 year high.

Here is the year-by-year breakdown... By 2009-01 they had basically stopped the bleeding, by 2010-01 they were basically flat, after that it's profits and earnings.

        http://financials.morningstar.com/ra...&culture=en-US

Most analysts say KK was in trouble because they expanded too quickly. Yes, they introduced signature brand coffees in select stores in late 2011, and they have fairly recently revamped their coffee beverage line. The current CEO does not think they will ever compete with the bigs in beverages as far as driving traffic and sales though. They were only doing 12% as of mid 2013. CEO Jim Morgan below...

"We’re never going to be Starbucks or Dunkin’ or McDonald’s in terms of how powerful beverage can be,” Morgan said, but he would like to take beverages from 12% of the business to 20%"
FWIW, in 2012 beverages accounted for 58% of Dunkin' Donuts sales revenue.

I do 100% agree with the donuts fresh off the line stuff though. I eat donuts fresh out of the deep fryer (I know, they aren't good for me!) here at the house, and my wife is a baker for the restaurant in a Four Diamond hotel. FWIW, we always make our whipped cream from scratch, and her truffles are very freakin' good!

As a nation we also "love" McDonald's, Burger King (called Hungry Jacks here), Pizza Hut, Subway, Dominos and more. I've no idea which is the most popular fast food outlet Down Under, but I'm sure you'll have some stats on it.

        LoL...

I know you have a couple thousand Subway and McDonalds shops between the two. I believe you have roughly 500 Dominos locations, and about 600 Hungry Jacks and Pizza Huts combined.

The thing is --> when I was there almost everyone tried to make me eat Vegemite!

Not only is it a little dickheady to have something abbreviate to KKK but I find it amusing that something designed for kids has spelt the word club wrong. So all the kids not only get an injection of sugar that could turn a horse diabetic, they leave unable to spell club, crispy or cream correctly.

(I appreciate creme maybe how it's spelt across the pond but I stand by club and crispy)
