Empires? Have not heard much of them --> but I am watching the musical series Empire which has been seeing almost unprecedented viewership growth week after week.

(Spoiler Alert) In last night's episode Jamal came out with a remake of his his father's tune... If you have been watching the show you know his dad, Lucious Lyon, was not all that happy with him, so singing this at the White Party was a bit of a surprise.

      My new favorite show!

I love it! I was bummed last night when they said there was only 3 more episodes.

Yeah, I am digging it too! It's first broadcast series to increase viewership in each of the first five weeks in at least 23 years! I believe they have increased that mark to 7 or 8 straight weeks now!

Yeah, the season is winding down, but the good news is it's already been renewed for another season.

        Cheers!

So this thread is about the show Empire and not the band Empires and their song, "Please Don't Tell My Lover"?

Back on track, thanks for the link, Joe. I just picked up their album on Amazon.

Honestly, I thought the thread was going to be about Joe Mobley's lover...and a secret that he was going to tell us.... that we were expected to keep from his lover.

      Humph!

You are not allowed to post anything related to The Empire Strikes Back, just that Terra is.

And you did make me laugh when you said something about Don going off topic, because we all know you never do that!

      So about your lover, Joe...

      P.S. Dan, Why so combative?

Methinks you missed my point. I've never said I don't go off topic. However, I also haven't self-elected myself as the arbiter of proper posting. Not two hours prior, Don was bitching about improper posts/derailing threads (so much so that his rantings got the entire thread deleted) and then, boom, first post after the OP, he completely derails Joe's thread.

Joe is known to complain about thread derailment, too. The difference is Joe doesn't say that out of one side of his mouth and derail threads out of the other. I respect him for that.

Sorry, Joe, for going a little off-topic. It's the last I'll speak of it in this thread, even after Don takes his run at me with charts and graphs and character assassinations.

I actually heard this a couple of times as background music in a store, YouTube'ed it up and posted it.

Dan, let me know how you like the album. This is the only track I've heard.

I'll let you know. I order the physical cd, so it'll be a few days. The track reminded me of 80's punk or something. Couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Well, Joe posted an Empires music video and nothing else. I mentioned that I have not heard much from the Indie rock band from Chicago. If you want to tell us some more about Sean Van Vleet, Tom Conrad, Max Steger
and Mike Robinson then please do.

If I find a few tunes that I like from them on YouTube I will post them here. I have lived in and near Chicago and attended lots of concerts but never saw the Empires live.

Actually, I'm not the OP. Joe Mobley is.. Obviously, the topic of this thread is related to the Empires and their music, not whatever stream of consciousness you come up with and deem as "on topic."

        Noted and corrected above.

Obviously, the topic of this thread is related to the Empires and their music, not whatever stream of consciousness you come up with and deem as "on topic."
Maybe you should take a look in the mirror. You and a few others like to completely derail threads with the same old lame attempts at humor and/or repetitively stale juvenile back and forth banter that most of us have seen or heard a thousand times before.

At least I posted on the subject of music and hit a side-mark or two with the empire reference... Almost the same names, the band is from Chicago and the series is filmed in Chicago, and the "please don't tell my lover" title reminded me a bit of the Empire episode from last night as in "please don't tell my dad who my lover is" which is why I posted the "You're So Beautiful" track.

I do not see myself turning the thread into a thread about myself, another member's forehead, juvenile nonsense, crude body part or bodily function references, or anything else of the sort.

Someone may actually enjoy the Empire music and/or series.

Not to mention the fact that this would not be the first thread that was started with a music video that led to other music videos being posted. If you noticed, the OP was a video with no text, no comment, and no direction.

        Cheers

Yes, Don, a few of us like to jab at each other in a playful manner. I disagree with your assessment of volume, quality, freshness, and quantity. (And, hey, they can't all be comedy gold.) I have limited my engagement in the forum and, most likely, will be leaving entirely in the near future. While you obviously do not enjoy the banter - which has been a part of the OT culture for at least the eight years I've been down here - I absolutely abhor the angry, self-righteous arguments you and a few others have brought to the OT. So, do me a favor, please, for the short time I remain on the forum, block me. Save yourself the aggravation.

No, you just turned the thread into a subject other than what the OP intended. That's the definition of thread derailment. Did Joe intend to discuss the show Empire? No. You changed the subject. Regardless if all Joe did was post a video, it's obvious he wanted us to watch the video and discuss the song, not whatever popped into Don's head.

Someone may actually enjoy the Empire music and/or series.
Fantastic. Start a thread for it rather than usurping Joe's.

Not to mention the fact that this would not be the first thread that was started with a music video that led to other music videos being posted. If you noticed, the OP was a video with no text, no comment, and no direction.
Those threads are typically started to discuss music in general. This one obviously wasn't. The thread did have direction. Here's a song. What do you think of the song?

Look, if you want carte blanche to derail threads, fine. Just be honest about it. As the self-appointed arbiter of posting etiquette and foremost "forum guru," you should expect to be held to a higher standard. You're old enough to understand that.

TL;DR: Don't complain about thread derailment and turn around literally two hours later and do it yourself.

            Mess? You mean da' facts.

Yes, Don, a few of us like to jab at each other in a playful manner.
On thread after thread after thread, most of which are not your own.

I disagree with your assessment of volume, quality, freshness, and quantity. (And, hey, they can't all be comedy gold.)
Sure you do, you are the one writing the nonsense...thread, after thread, after thread.

I have limited my engagement in the forum and, most likely, will be leaving entirely in the near future.
You know what they say about the door....

While you obviously do not enjoy the banter - which has been a part of the OT culture for at least the eight years I've been down here
Actually, I don't mind a little bit of it....but some days and weeks you guys post so much of it it's basically all you post. That's not something everyone enjoys...and it derails thread, after thread, after thread.

I absolutely abhor the angry, self-righteous arguments you and a few others have brought to the OT.
LoL ---> you must mean real discussion backed up with a few facts. I know, you may not enjoy many of the topics down here...it must be why you chose to derail so many of those topics with your juvenile nonsensical banter. Angry? Self-righteous? You got a few strange things going on in your head, eh? Hallucinations maybe?

So, do me a favor, please, for the short time I remain on the forum, block me. Save yourself the aggravation.
I don't block members, and blocking does not stop all of the derailments caused by the same old, lame old, back and forth juvenile banter.

No, you just turned the thread into a subject other than what the OP intended.
Actually, I have posted more information on the Empires than anyone else on the thread. Please do get a clue. Let us not forget, the OP posted a music video with no text, no comment, and no instruction.

That's the definition of thread derailment.
You are the one trying to derail the thread, and you are one of the guys that regularly derails threads with posts and back and forth banter that is nothing more than repetitive juvenile nonsense. Are you still in eighth grade or what?

Did Joe intend to discuss the show Empire?
He posted a single video with no text and I have made several posts about the Empires but you keep ignoring them.

            No. You changed the subject.
Actually, I have posted several times on the Empires and you seem to like posting on the subject of me and my posts. Who is changing the subject?

Regardless if all Joe did was post a video, it's obvious he wanted us to watch the video and discuss the song, not whatever popped into Don's head.
You are one of the most prolific derailers the forum has seen in years and you are going to try to lecture me? Get a grip, please.

Fantastic. Start a thread for it rather than usurping Joe's.
You must be giving up the derailing and hijacking business to take up preaching, eh?

Those threads are typically started to discuss music in general. This one obviously wasn't. The thread did have direction. Here's a song. What do you think of the song?
LoL...I can't believe you are lecturing ANYONE about posting off-topic. Again, the name of the band, the band's location, and the title of the song reminded me of the music show Empires and a specific song that was sang on last night's episode. I know you don't get it, but hey, that's the way it goes sometimes.

Look, if you want carte blanche to derail threads, fine.
I rarely derail threads... You LOVE to intentionally derail threads with juvenile nonsense and back and forth banter that's been done a thousand times before.

The fact is I continue to talk about the Empires and you continue to talk about me. You are not even talking about music. You and a few others post pages of absolute nonsense, that has nothing to do with the thread topics, and to compare your habit of intentionally derailing threads with crude and/or juvenile, done a thousand times nonsense, to me making 2 posts about the musical drama Empire is one of your best jokes ever. Clap! Clap!

            Just be honest about it.
            Always...

As the self-appointed arbiter of posting etiquette and foremost "forum guru," you should expect to be held to a higher standard.
It' plainly obvious that I don't intentionally derail thread after thread after thread with lame attempts at juvenile pretend food fights and other childish banter. You love talking about other members of the forum instead of the thread topic, and a few of the other members love talking about you. You don't care what the topic is...you post nonsense about them and they return the favor, and then often times you both thank each other. We get the game...learn a new one. The jokes are old, the banter is tiring, and the whole act is quite boring for many.
You're old enough to understand that.
You are talking about age? You? The king of 6th grade humor? Or is it 8th grade humor?

TL;DR: Don't complain about thread derailment and turn around literally two hours later and do it yourself.
Stop trying to compare my two Empire posts on this thread to the antics of yourself, one of the most prolific hijackers and derailers in WF history. Good grief... If a few of you can make thousands of completely off subject posts, and then thank each other for those posts, don't make a stink when you see someone post an Empire music video on an Empires music thread that had no comments, text, or direction.

Secondarily, if you and your buddies can make thousands of nonsense posts on hundreds of threads don't get your panties in a wad when someone mentions that sort of nonsense is being allowed.

A few off-subject posts are what I occasionally make, thousands of the lame attempts at juvenile humor and back and forth banter that has nothing to do with the threads is what you and a few others like to do on thread, after thread, after thread. In many cases that dumb stuff carries on for a half-page or more.

Now try to post something on (or from) the Empires and stop flapping your trap on me. I don't buy your nonsense since it's plainly obvious that I usually make posts that are on the topic of the threads, and you like to hijack and derail threads with 6th grade nonsense and juvenile back and forth banter that we have seen played a thousand times already on this forum.

Get a new game, learn a new gig, get back in the batting cage for a few minutes...you need to get your swing back in a groove, brah.

This one is from the HOWL album...
