As most of you know, we downsized when we moved to our new home a couple of months back. I kept some of my favorite pieces and have decorated the whole house except for the small living room that you enter into.

I have the large family room done, but haven't been able to come up with anything I liked for living room. The wall space is different, has less area due to a large front window and one wall only being a half wall between it and the kitchen, and on one wall the thermostat throws off anything that I tried to do. It just didn't look right no matter what I did.

So there has been nothing on the walls since we moved in and all of my wall hangings, vases, bowls, etc and the antique end tables from Grama (that aren't a set) lined up against one wall on the floor.

Well, last night, I had a dream that I was standing in the middle of the living room, turning in circles admiring the way it looked. When I woke up, I remembered every detail of what was where and items that were grouped together, etc.

So, I did it! I just finished the decorating in the living room and I love it!

How frickin' cool is that?

Sorry if I just bored the heck out of you, but I just thought this whole thing is amazing.

They say that "Martha Stewart works in mysterious ways."

Congrats on arriving at a solution, even if it was in a scary way. :-)

      Thanks, Frank!

But I just have to ask. Why do you think it was in a scary way?

I thought it was just too cool the way my brain/mind/subconscious solved my decorating dilemma for me while I slept. I mean, I didn't come up with the working combination while awake, but did while sleeping.
I think that is kick butt and not scary in the least!

I was being facetious and referring to putting Martha Stewart as the impetus for your dream.

You really do have a difficult time with my idiocy, don't you? :-)

Agreed. Last night I came up with an interesting plot to a one hour cop show. As I slowly awakened I realized how unique it was and was quite proud of myself. Unfortunately, I can't remember a single aspect of it, now.

Don't get me wrong. Dreams are one of the things that I most love about being alive. Mine are incredibly rich, oftentimes thrilling and never boring.

Out of all the future inventions that I see mentioned in relationship to the brain, if I could live long enough the one that I would love to see is the one they believe will allow you to record your dreams and play them back. Just think about that. I can't think of anything cooler than that.

        Cheers. - Frank

P.S. Problem solving dreams are thought to be the most ubiquitous.

Grrr! Don't you just hate when that happens? It does help if when you remember it upon waking, you go over it in your mind even retelling it in your own words as though you were sharing it with someone else. This helps to emblazon the dream into your conscious mind. And of course, there is the writing them down too. But I prefer the storytelling of them.

I used to take a little voice recorder to bed with me. I would find that while dozing off I would come up with solutions to problems that plagued me during the day as well as good ideas to look into in the future. Then I started falling asleep within 5 minutes of my head hitting the pillow, so I stopped doing that.

Then I went through this very strange phase that if I was laying in bed and I thought of a question that I knew the answer to put could not recall, I would get an incredibly intense panic attack. It wasn't like I thought I had Alzheimer's - it was a much deeper fear. So I started bringing my phone to bed so that whenever that happened I could Google something that could get me on track. It happened last night when that ridiculous Jeff Bridges commercial came on. I blanked out on his name. Then I blanked out on his famous father's name, but I did remember that his dad was in Sea Hunt. Google'd that and all was well. lol

Ya' know what's really weird? I sometimes have these memories of being in a particular place. I'll sit and rack my brain trying to figure out just where that was. What city? What state? How long, ago? Then I realize that I'm remembering a brief snippet of a dream that I had, years, ago. But it has been burned into my brain as if it were an actual memory. Weird, or what? lol
That would be the most stupendous thing ever!! I'm with you on that one all the way!!

Heathkit, heathkit, hey, didn't they make ham radios. I'm pretty sure my mom had one, lol! Her handle was Cupie Doll. Her name was Dolores and she went by Dolly.

Speaking of dreams where you've been but don't remember it til you're there. I had one when I was little, but it was more than just a flicker of a memory of a dream. I told about it here.

So no, that's not really weird sounding to me.

How fortunate you were to remember, Terra. I think when your mind is only focusing on one problem you get better solutions. We also have a very small house. I've always desperately needed something larger but it isn't worthwhile because of very high property taxes to do it around here. Anyway, I can honestly feel your pain trying to fit everything into a small space.

Unless a dream was emotionally vivid or absolutely hilarious, I just don't remember them, and it sure would help a lot of times if I could. I can still remember being a kid and dreaming that the furnace and big pipes in the basement was a giant octopus. It's pretty funny now, but was frightening back then.

For you Sal, because you asked.

Okay, the top two photos show the mirror over the shelf. That actually is one shelf with two matching smaller ones one each side rather than separate on each side of the mirror higher up. The two 20 year class reunion champagne flutes were in my bedroom on the dresser until my dream. Now, they are here, duh! lol! That vase and two candles were there in my dream too.

The grandfather clock is in the corner where you can see it, the time, from everywhere, every angle, and the three pieces on the bookcase were there that way in my dream.

I the third picture, the sconce cups contain colored polished stones. I didn't have any so I ran to the general store and picked some up. I'm not sure if you can see it well, but on the glass topped coffee table, in the center is a square vase that contained a small flower arrangement from Grama's funeral, and it has those matching stones in it. The two other pieces are both from Grama and are how I saw them in my dream.

The fourth picture shows one of the antique end tables from Grama. The vase turned with a corner facing out and the two side pieces accenting the blues and pinks came from the dream, I wouldn't have thought of that. The tiled top of that table Grama did when I was just a little girl. I stood and watched her do it. I guess she made it more folk art than antique now, lol!

The last picture shows the wall with the thermostat on it and the design with the pieces displayed the way I saw it in my dream. It isn't symmetrical at all, but does have a downward flow. Acceptable, lol!

Next, the other end table from Grama is sitting sideways with the drawer opening towards the kitchen. It was too long the other way because of the narrow walkway from the front door. It works this way, thanks to my dream.

So, there you have my sitting room photos all decorated from my dream.

You've been to my dad's place - tasteful and very pretty, but it's way too formal for any real comfort in my estimation. I much prefer the kick off your shoes and settle in look that this room has.
Gotcha! You pegged me and the feel I've given to the house.

Every single family member and friend has used either the word comfy or cozy or both in their compliments after seeing it for the first time.

Actually, that room is the most formal one of the house. The family room on the lower level is more laid back as the decorative theme is tropical with lots of palm trees.

Yeah, it was gorgeous. As I recall, we felt more comfortable on the front porch as we talked into the wee hours of the morning out there despite the little nip in the air.

Anyway, thank you! I consider what you just said a huge compliment!

Thanks Richard! I love my grandfather clock.

It has history, but I only know the history going back about 15 years. You see, my brother and sister-in-law (at the time) bought it and a matching curio cabinet at an estate sale 15 years ago right after they married. Their marriage only lasted a couple of years then they divorced. I remember saying to him, "Well, what did you think was going to happen when you married her? The first I ever heard of her, you said, Man, Mike's girlfriend is the biggest b*tch I have ever met in my life!"?

Anyway, they divorced the set too with my ex-sister-in-law getting the curio cabinet and my brother taking the grandfather clock whom then, straight away gave it to me. He said it would really p*ss her off as she didn't like me!

Anyway, it's been mine ever since and I absolutely adore it!

          It's mine, mine, mine, lol!

          Thanks, Ian!

          The TV, Haha!

That one came from my son's room. We have one Sony 52 inch flat screen in the large family room and it's too big for the recess in the wall where a TV is supposed to go, so it is sitting on a stand in front of the recess for now. That's where we spend most of our time.

The other one got broke in the move. So the plan is, the 52 inch from the family room is going to go in Hubby's pole barn and we're going to get 2 more smaller flat screens, one for the family room and one for the sitting room.

That other huge TV from the 90's is either going back to my son or to charity, lol!

Anyway, it's on the list. We still have a lot of things still on the list to tackle. We're taking it one step at a time.

You've been to my dad's place - tasteful and very pretty, but it's way too formal for any real comfort in my estimation. I much prefer the kick off your shoes and settle in look that this room has.
