Don't watch TV, always on my computer.
Movies and TV shows that I feel like watching I download off the net. No ads.

Basically I used my computer only for working not for seeing movie. But when I don't work then I see TV at my home.

My tv, collects cobwebs usually, but there are two shows on tv, witch l am currently watching.

I watch most on my Laptop!

But these days, if l buy a DVD it is in this dumb wide screen format, so unless l plug it into my Laptop, l miss a good part of it.

Wreck it Ralph, was a good example, hard to see what was happening on my old CRT TV, with reasonably big screen, but no prob, on my Laptop!

It seems that unless l spend a fortune on a LCD TV, tech, is punishing me, for lagging behind or not spending excessively?

Shane, you can get a 42 in flat screen for @ $300. Hell, I semi-recently bought a 50 incher for $399 with free shipping. You probably spend that much a month just on chocolate cake.

Yes, but with Joe, you can't unsee what you see. With a TV, I can just turn it off.

TV's are dirt cheap these days and you can use them as computer monitors and watch your movies through them via your laptop via hdmi.

We have a Sony 55 inch smart tv in the main room ( picks up the net for direct Netflix watching) and 2, 32 inch flat panels in bedrooms. Main bedroom one has a Roku box attached for Netflix.

We have Direct TV (Sat tv)

Well, l can't just give up my Cocoa stock, because l want to reduce my Chocolate cake intake?

Chocolate cake is the only thing standing between me and oblivion at the moment, but l am cutting back a little!

I can't think of any quirky comebacks for that one, especially after having dinner!

Yep, my Mother got a l think that it was a 69 inch, recently. Huge screen, but she loves it now! And it gets the internet, blah, blah.

And only costed $700! It was a Sony as well!

Well, if we're listing our gear:

65in smart in the theater room (with four home theater seats and 7.1 surround), 50 in smart the sitting parlor (wife's parlance, not mine), 42 in with a Google stick the master bedroom (mainly a clothes rack), 32 in the guest bedroom and another 32 in the study. All powered by DirecTV.

I might give the 42 to my mother since the wife and I never watch TV in bed.

We watch too much TV and have been cutting back by dropping shows we aren't absolutely enamored with. We also spend quite a bit time reading, so the Big TV/Big Library theory doesn't work with us. We just have no other hobbies.

I am getting an itch in the back of my mind for a new 4k display. My wife, however, will probably murder me if I pull the trigger.

Riffle in bold (although he doesn't deserve it) me, nt bold.

Well, if we're listing our gear:

                Ian started it,.

65in smart in the theater room (with four home theater seats and 7.1 surround), 50 in smart the sitting parlor (wife's parlance, not mine), 42 in with a Google stick the master bedroom (mainly a clothes rack), 32 in the guest bedroom and another 32 in the study. Home theater? Sitting parlor? Study? .......Farging Bastage.

I might give the 42 to my mother since the wife and I never watch TV in bed.

We can just add that to the long list of things you don't do in bed.

We watch too much TV and have been cutting back by dropping shows we aren't absolutely enamored with. We also spend quite a bit time reading, so the Big TV/Big Library theory doesn't work with us. We just have no other hobbies.

My main hobbies are Bragging and Complaining.

The TV comes on when we get home from work. It pretty much stays on. And my wife and I prett much stay in the living room....I mean the Master Living Room..... for the evening. We both read most of the time we are in these. Last night, I watched Arrow, but read the entire time, and remember none of it. There are only a few shows that we will stop reading to watch. Walking Dead, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Flash, Agent Carter, Downton Abbey (I can't help it. My wife got me addicted) Blacklist.......

Much of the time, the TV is just on one of the music channels.

I also have a huge library. A huge manly library. I'd easily give up the TVs, before I would give up the books.

Home theater.....65 inch TV........Damn you, Rifle! But I'm taller, I'll always have that.

And that's not a 65 inch TV, it's a window. And it's not the Nature Channel, it's your back yard. Take your medication.

The wife is all about "sitting parlor" rather than "living room" in this house. Something to do with how it's decorated and situated. I don't really care as I avoid the room because it's uncomfortable and I'm not allowed to lay on the couch.

AV is my main hobby so I've been collecting gear for decades. I have a "speaker closet" that my wife hates. But a man never knows when he's going to need more speakers. It's kind of like shoes for women.

We are currently in an awkward phase when it comes to reading material. Neither one of us has found the right formula for when to buy a physical book and when to kindle it. I much prefer the feel of a physical book, but the physical space savings allowed by Kindle is a considerable advantage. Currently, I buy "randoms" on Kindle and stick to physical books for reference material and favorite authors.

That just struck me as hilarious. Is it a "Show living room"? One that looks great, but where you don't really go? I'm really asking.

My wife reads Kindle books that she buys, and Library books. All mysteries. I only read non-fiction, and it's nearly all print. And every year, I take a few boxes of books to the local library. If I had my way, every room would be a library.

My wife has a small room that is her own "Library". It has an ornate desk and chair, a wall of bookshelves, full of popular mystery books, and is decorated richly. I would never mention it to her, but she never reads in there, and I know it's really there, because people can see inside as they drive by.

She would deny that to her death.

Basically. We only use it when we have large parties for friends and family (that's why you've never seen it). Otherwise, we're in "The Hole" (the theater room).

We're the same way with books. Every bedroom is lined with book shelves. Overflow gets dropped off at Goodwill or given to friends.

She would deny that the reason it's decorated so expensively....is because people can look in as they drive by. It's the same reason we have two Christmas trees up in the season.

One Christmas tree for people to see when they look in our front door, or as they drive by....and a different Christmas tree for the Sun room, because we have a neighbor, that can see in the Sunroom, in the Winter....The tree is for them. It took me years to figure it out.

The 4k tv, if you don't want a huge display is already relatively cheap. A 55 inch LG runs at $1299.00, the sort of price flat panel led's were at a few years ago. You have to be careful though as not all will upscale everything. Make sure you ask the question. The only true 4k programs available at the moment suprisingly are via Netflix so you have to have a fast net connection with unlimited bandwidth to stream them. Heavily compressed.

Yep, I'm aware. That's why it's just an itch at this point. I need at least a 65 in. Once you go big, you can never go back. At least, that's what my wife says.

I'm trying to wait for more 4k source material to be available.

While I wait, I might upgrade my sound to Dolby Atmos. I have to figure out if it will be worth it considering the configuration of my theater room.

To get Netflix you need to have a smart tv with net connectivity, or a google stick or a Roku box (I have a Roku HD one, excellent), something like that. You can watch Netflix on 3 devices. (meaning you can be signed in on 3 devices) with one account. Watching all three at the same time though is probably not possible unless your net connection and bandwidth is incredible. But, of course you would not do that anyway :-)

I have an 9 year old 47 inch Vizio in the family room (which I purchased just before my Colts went and won the Super Bowl of 2007) , and a 61 inch, 12 year old Toshiba flat screen projection in the basement.

Neither TV has any USB ports.

The Toshiba is a flat square screen and was HD ready but I had to make a few adjustments to the viewing area of the screen to prepare it for widescreen and HD - as in now it's only an 55 inch widescreen.

Every bedroom has a 32 inch Vizio.

I'm with Verizon now but they will be phased out over the next 2-3 years.

"65in smart in the theater room (with four home theater seats and 7.1 surround), 50 in smart the sitting parlor (wife's parlance, not mine), 42 in with a Google stick the master bedroom (mainly a clothes rack), 32 in the guest bedroom and another 32 in the study. All powered by DirecTV.

Home theater? Sitting parlor? Study? .......Farging Bastage."

Incredible tip, move the sofa closer to the tv. Incredible perceived screen size difference.

I have a TV but barely watch it. Most of the time, I'm reading books or working on the computer.
