I just rebooted my system, right? (Wifi sucks here) and I clicked to bring up the forum again - and got a pop up ad before I could get to OT.

Really - is it going to be this tacky? If I'm trying to do something on websites that throw those in my face, I usually just click off and don't bother with them. To me it's not "advertising", it's a very crude intrusion. Put the thing on the page and if I'm interested I'll click. Don't block me from what I want to do. This is one of my pet peeves. Pretty soon it will the second and I'll have to listen to an ad that automatically runs when I get here. Lets keep at least a tad of class huh?

I don't get any popups at all when I am logged in with Chrome... I just opened Firefox, logged out and then cleared my cache and cookies, and then reopened the browser and I am not getting any popups when logged out either.

If it's not a WF ad then you may have some junk adware on your machine.

      Sal, check your pop-up blocker!

I had that crap and thought that it was WF, but it was some low lifes giving the impression that it was coming from here!

Just use trial and error until the crap disappears!

I was on a site a few days ago, and saw an interesting ad. I thought I want to buy this! I TRIED! I forgot! WHY? My system stalled for minutes! WHY? It was low on resources and the idiot that ran the site decided to congratulate me for going to the page, BY VOICE! GOOD GOING IDIOT! You ANNOYED me, ******AND******* caused my computer to use resources it did NOT have! I tried to go further a bit later, but he chimed in AGAIN!

In MY case ALONE, sales people have lost THOUSANDS of dollars by that CRASS and senseless use of resources.

They ALSO tried this garbage on a VM instance of Windows SERVER! GUESS WHAT FOLKS! Windows SERVER is NOT made for that! By default, it frustrates it! I even had to go to extra trouble to get activeX to work, and get adobe software. I did NOT set up that VM instance for sound! THEIR ad was lost to the dustbin of history!

BTW for wifi, SOMETIMES, you can simply disconnect the wifi connection, and reconnect.

This severs the connection with the network, and gets a new connection. If you have a reset problem caused by an intermittent break, this will fix it. What happens is when there is a break, there may be a synchronization issue, or things like the IP address and gateway info may change. Your system is SUPPOSED to catch this and readjust, but many don't. So it may be connected to the network, and say so, but it is just not logically compatible. When you reconnect, the systems sync up, the remote system often gives the local one a lease on an IP address, and it sets itself up to be compatible with that. Yeah, DHCP makes it so YOU often don't have to worry about such things, but this is one of the unfortunate problems that can happen.

Steve - I have to restart this one about every 12 hours.

Shane - I just found I don't have pop-ups blocked. I forgot about that and don't know why I did it, but hopefully that will help. I don't have junk on my machine. I keep it pretty clean. I haven't logged out of the forum in a long time though and it just really surprised me to have that ad show up - and yeah, it's on this site, it's not just cyber junk. I thought it was pretty tacky. Sometimes it seems that whoever is running this place has learned everything they know from WF WSO rehash.

It is ALSO possible that your provider has a limited system and/or just gives you a short lease!!!!!! The lease could simply be set to expire in 12 hours and, with NO breakdown in communications, you have this problem!!!! There are a few ways it could happen! It is worth a try! On a good day, the disconnect/reconnect could take a couple seconds, and you could look at a short video whereas, otherwise, you will still be booting!

As for popups, some sites won't work if you block popups. YEAH, STUPID DESIGN, but something that they may NEVER change!

If it will not disappear maybe you can delete the web browser and then download again. I think it is an adware. I have some pop up before because of downloading some torrent files.

I don't think she has a nasty on her computer.

When I logged in I got a pop-up too and it is from this forum. If you go to the homepage and look mid way down, you'll she a picture of a woman copywriter named Tiebe or something. You can click and reserve a seat for March 5th. That's the pop-up I got, except much larger and in your face!

you know what - there's marketing and then there's annoyances - pop-ups are annoyances.

I don't need a pop-up to remind me about stuff - or to force me to do something - a pop-up is a guarantee I will do the exact opposite of what it expects me to do.

I had the same thing pop-up too, Sal and I have a pop-ups blocked - they have some code implemented that circumvents your browser pop-up blocker which I find extremely rude and intrusive - I also have Ghostery installed - so it circumvents that too.

And I have no malware on my machine - I run scans twice a week and don't visit unknown sites - especially not torrent sites.

Feel the same way but thats never stopped marketers from using them and even the double "opt out" "wait don't go" attempted hostage taking ones. Thats a widely used technique practiced and promoted by many a "Warrior" member so thats why its odd and a bit humorous to me.

That might be the problem then. I never actually log out of the WF, just close whatever tab or window it's open in.

If you log ou and then come back to the home page, rather than the OT forum front page, is that when it occurs?

If so, simply don't log out, just close the tab or window.

Your still using Windows XP I think you said. No more updates or security patches. Time to get something a little newer. I use 8.1 and have Symantec antivirus and malware, takes care of all that and have no problems.

I think it was only around for a short time period. I always close my browser after between online sessions and it deletes all cookies when closing.
Over a three hour period I probably opened the browser and logged on here 3 times. I only got the pop-up once.

Personally I would never have anything to do with a pop-up or pop-under. For me it is a matter of principle. Using a technology that throws an ad at my face just pisses me off and I always immediately delete it. Totally puts me off no matter what the offer is - I ignore them so well I usually do not know what the offer is.

When I logged on today I did get the add from the female copywriter.

I think some people also don't understand the value of critical mass in creating buzz and activity. The more forums/segmentation you have the less active they are going to be individually... if people don't get responses fast they get bored, and threads don't move down the page for days. That's boring and doesn't attract.

For instance, the offline forum has been divided into mobile, and social... It has been divided up so much that none of the segments are really buzzing all that much with activity. They are all offline services. You get more bang (attraction power) for having 700 people in one forum at once than having 80 viewing one, and 320 viewing another and 200 in another. That 700 would attract hundreds more and it would be over a thousand... just because it would be a place where you could get a lot of action.

For me there was just now a massive promo ad pushing down the rest of the forum for Armand's bootcamp on how to be a coach.

Free, so what the heck. Created a new temp email address, clicked on the tracking link, gave up the new email, received a confirmation request and clicked to confirm and ...

... always a good idea to test your process. The confirmation link goes to an unsubscribe request. Oops. Armand is probably wondering why no one is signing up despite the mega ad.

The pop-up was a bit jarring as it was unexpected, especially since my ad blocker blocks regular forum banner ads. I thought income claims were not allowed. The rule must not apply to AMAs or forum pop-ups. At least AMAs, or the one I saw, are transcribed and posted in the War Room. You can skim it fast and pull out any relevant info without spending an hour watching a video.
