I'm laying out my new puppy plan of attack. What do you think?

Okay, once I get the allergy testing done, hubby will see that I'm not allergic to puppies/dogs and that takes care of that protest, fear, or whatever you want to call it.

Once that objection has been shot down with proof, I plan to hit him with this.

29 Before And After Photos Show What Love Does To Dogs

Here's an adorable example...

"Before and after adoption. There was a happy, lovable dog hidden behind all that fear."

Do you have any other recommendations that I can use in my arsenal?

Thanks!!

With all the problems you have with allergies you shouldn't even dream of going near anything even remotely allergic.

Was thinking about starting a thread on show us your dog, but not sure if i can my images to work ( the images for me have been broken since they fixed the forum ) / So maybe thread of everybody dogs and a small story may help to see there are an army of dog lovers out there ( and yes cat lovers to / and every other darn pet while where here so not to upset any players )

All I can add is the house it to quite without a dog (Our last Dog passed away last June and we have just taken in a new pup / could not stand the quiet or antics of a dog under a feet ), plus they make great burglar alarms when needed.

Hmmm, well there are a few puppy images as well, but it is cat's or nothing for me!

But, l will break my own rule, since this is a strictly puppy thread, he, he!

If you want to get yourself a dog, l would recommend going down to your nearest pet shop and test every product you will put on your dog.

Especially soap, if your puppy or dog roles in something smelly, then after you have washed it, that is what you will smell.

Last thing you want is to buy an adorable puppy and have to sell it 6 months later, when a flea powder you have used, turns out to be disagreeable for you!

I doubt that anyone here will want the "Not again" post in a few months time, so yeah, go for it, but test everything first!

2 years ago when my Mothers neighbors dog, chewed through the fence, it did have strong smelling soap on.

I sneezed a few times, because it was strong, (maybe the soap had a flea inhibitor included, but it was strong).

And also took some effort to remove from my hands, (yet again, if you have a reaction to this soap, then test first, don't chance it).

Remember to post your puppy images, good luck!

Top Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds for People with Allergies
Yeah, Dan (Biz) gave me a link to a site of them. Here's the thing. At this point, I don't want to ask for a pedigree as they do cost money, the hypoallergenic ones can run up to $5,000. I want to ease him into this so I'm going for a rescue puppy, small breed mix, because I want each of us to equally enrichen each others lives. I want to save a puppy. The cost is minimal, the adoption fee, shots, license, etc compared to a pedigree. I did notice that the Wire-haired Dachshund is on that list. I really want a miniature Dachshund or a Chiweeni, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. But first and foremost, I just want to rescue a small breed puppy for starters.

I hope so! I know, I fell in love with all of them too. And the thing is, he loves dogs! All of our friends have them and every time we go visiting he always plays with them.

I think he's dealing with a double edged sword inside. When my cat allergy worsened to severe and I went anaphylactic, we had to find them new homes. Not only was he upset that my life was threatened by them, but I know it hurt him that we had to lose them. The thing about hubby is when he loves, he loves hard. You know what I mean? So I think he has that fear battling inside of him too.

Well, they got me in quick for the testing. I go Thursday, 2:00 pm. That is amazing I'm getting in that soon with such a "famous allergist". Hubby is coming with me, so he'll be able to see for himself that I'm not allergic to dogs just because I'm allergic to cats, bee stings, antibiotics and other medications, mold, and dust and who knows what else.

I can't wait to go, now!!!

I hope the allergy tests work in your favor. Here's another before and after shot

    Formerly Casanova at the shelter

Now Walker with some meat on his bones

He's such a good dog. Very well behaved and gentle and sweet. In addition to not being fed properly, I fairly certain he was beaten. He is afraid of men and won't come in the room when one is there. He's watchful and if your arm goes up, he backs off like he's afraid of what you're going to do. He trusts me now, and my granddaughter and one of my daughters, but no men.

Yep, that's what our little girl is. One of the most fun dogs I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. Very entertaining.

They might not be as expensive as you think. I think ours was either $200 or $400, it's been 9 years so I don't remember for sure. That was with all the shots. She's a purebred, but we didn't get (or want) the papers to prove it.

I don't know your hubby, but the petition idea might not be the best way to go - it might feel like he's being ganged up on. How he responds to that kind of pressure is key.

Wow - you're doing an excellent job for that poor little guy. Munchie didn't like men either - and he was never abused by one. Just did not like them. It does sound like it was a man that turned this boy into the before picture.

Try having the guys hand treats to Walker. If he backs up, have them put the treat on the floor and stand back or just walk off. Sooner or later they will win him over to at least a point, but he might turn out to be an one-person devoted mommy's boy. He knows who saved his butt. Time and the experience of gentle humans will take care of him.

Here's your plan of action. When he's at work, go down to the pound and get a puppy and a cage. Get a large wire exercise wheel and put it in the cage with the dog. When he gets home he will say, You have bought a dog!!!!. No, you say, it's a Giant Siberian Hamster, don't you recognize one when you see it?

He will first be embarrassed by his lack of knowledge, but then, triumphantly, he will say, if that's what you say it is, show me a picture of one. That's when you pull out the carefully pre-done photo-shopped picture's that Shane has created of puppy's in hamster cages.

The deception is complete. You will have to work in the fact that it likes coming out of it's cage, going for walks and making barking noises, over time. Just say, that's what Giant Siberian Hamsters are like.

It's brilliant and it will work!

He looks so much better! I bet he's a great dog. Doodah was reactive like that when I adopted him - if you moved quickly he either cringed or growled - or both. A lot of "hands on" - literally touching him just for a pat or an rub walking past him - and he started to get over the fear reaction. It took almost a full year.

If it were me I'd try eventually to find a way to get him over the fear of all men - that can be overcome if you have a male friend willing to be patient and calm around Walker.

Yeah, when he meets enough men who don't harm him or scare him, I think he'll forget about his past. He's exposed to several men here ... daughter's boyfriend, my father and brother, so I think in time his fear will subside.

Suzanne, I was thinking that the first man he is not afraid of is the man for you.

Probably afraid of sticks, bats, water hoses too. I had a new rescue dog that bolted away when
I picked up the hose to water my lawn. I don't know if she had been hit with one, or was afraid
of being sprayed. Fortunately, the yard was fenced or there might have been a long chase
          on busy streets.

I like the Chiweenies too. Funny how things happen in bunches and then go away. Several
months ago we had three or four unrelated guests bring Chiweenies with them during a two
          week span of time.

They all seemed a lot calmer and quieter than the Chihuahuas. They did not have the constant
barking, shaking, or growling that seems common to the breed.

Terra - there are a lot of rescue sites online. Soi Dog is one I donate to when possible. They are working very hard to stop the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand. There's shelters all over the US that post before and after shots - or just pics of someone they rescued and now needs a home.

If I were you I'd wait for the trauma of your latest episode to wear off before even mentioning it. You've been way to sick over the last few years to push too fast with it.

You have friends with dogs - when you see them, pay attention to the dogs, pet them, hold them -- make sure you don't react to those dogs before getting your own. It would break your heart to have to give one up after becoming attached. Trust me on that one.

If you can be in houses where your friends have dogs and around those animals with no consequences, that will do more to win Bill over than anything else.

We do that already. Our best friends that we visit the most have 4 dogs. There's Shelby, a golden lab, who always brings me her ball in the house or her Frisbee if we're out side, to play. Then there's Zoe, a Bullmastiff who always comes running up to me with my girlfriend running to catch up with a dishrag to wipe away her slobber before she jumps up, puts her paws on my shoulders and licks my face. Then there's Huggy Bear, a Lhasa apso who always comes and lays on my feet whether I'm standing or sitting and then there's my favorite, Poppy. He's a Chihuahua and whenever I sit down, he comes and jumps up into my lap and lays in the crook of my arm on his back just like he's a baby, and proceeds to take a nap, lol!

They all love me and I don't react at all.
