The Secret to Long Life

At 104 years old, Elizabeth Sullivan says she doesn’t need the advice of real doctors. So she keeps another doctor close by.

“People try to give me coffee for breakfast. Well, I’d rather have a Dr. Pepper.” Sullivan fell in love with the soft drink’s trademark “23 flavors” when she was in her 60’s. “I started drinking them about 40 years ago. Three a day. Every doctor that sees me says they’ll kill you, but they die and I don’t. So there must be a mistake somewhere.”

    Oh No!

Reading that brought back a memory I had years ago. An embarrassing one, now, lol!

Way back in the 9th grade, one of my basketball teammates told me a joke. She asked me why Dr. Pepper always comes in a bottle. I shrugged my shoulders and she said because his wife died.

She cracked up and I just laughed along as that made no sense to me at all!

Years later while I was in Texas, I heard that word in a sentence that made it quite clear what that word meant. Instantly that joke came back to me and I thought, Ooooh! That's what she meant.

    Oh, crap!

I played point guard. I had a mean lay up and jump shot. I wasn't tall, but I was quick.

Terra - I can so relate!

In junior high school I checked a physiology book out of the library. I was sneaking a read of a racy novel I found on my stepfather's closet shelf...and wanted to see what some of the words referred to.

        Haha!

I wish I had thought of that when I was 10. Instead, I asked my dad and ended up having an incorrect meaning for absolutely years!

I found a "True Crimes" magazine in the magazine rack and started reading it. I came across a phrase over and over in the different stories and didn't know what it meant. At all. I mean I was clueless, lol!

The phrase was "oral sex". So I asked my dad what that meant. He asked me where on earth had I heard that? I explained to him that I didn't hear it, but found the magazine and read it. He said, "Oh."

Then after a couple of minutes of silence, he said figure it out yourself. I asked how? He said to look at each individual word and put it together.

So I looked at the word oral and remembered we had oral reading groups in class which meant we read aloud, which meant we spoke the words. So oral meant speaking. Next I looked at the word sex. All I knew about that was that Mom had always told us it was a bad word and not to say it. A bad word was an obscenity.

Aha! I thought. Oral sex meant shouting obscenities at each other. Hahahaha!

Yes, l have a small glass of coke almost every day, and my Mother and brother carry on like it is poison or a one way trip to Diabetes.

So l did some research and found that a half glass has 1 to 3 teaspoons of sugar, (probably 1-2 teaspoons).

So if l had a coffee, with 2 teaspoons of sugar, l wouldn't get all of this crap.

Doctors tend to scare you to death first, and then give a prescription later!

And l do drink filtered water the rest of the day.

They may also overdo health related info, on diet?

I mean three servings of fruit a day is pushing it. I have 2 a day, and know that if l tried to have three it wouldn't work, and probably p*** me off so much, l might ditch it all and go back to conventional breakfast food!

And having to do 20 minutes of heavy exercise a day? That also seems like overkill.

I suspect that any exercise is good. If l tried to do 20 minutes of running around the block a day, same thing get so sick of it, l wouldn't bother.

Do Paleties a few times a week, no, problem!

Maybe l a running up a blind alley, but it seems that doctors over-prescribe diet and exercise routines, as well as recommend iffy info, on Sunlight, tap water and other things!

But that doesn't matter when the population start to get ill later on in life, we always have their sell your house drugs and operations to fall back on!

Back to Steve's opening post, how do you live into your 90's and beyond? You don't... unless you have an active FOXO3a gene. (According to the Joe-theory of longevity.)

        Association with longevity
A variant of FOXO3 has been shown to be associated with longevity in humans. It is found in most centenarians across a variety of ethnic groups around the world.

And George drank 6-7 martinis a day. I've posted this before, but it's one of my favorite quotes ever and deserves to be posted again.

When George was about 94 or 95, an interviewer asked him, "George, you smoke 12 cigars and drink 6 martinis a day, what does your doctor say about that?"

George replied, "I don't know. My doctor died 30 years ago."

Also, I just read where a 106 (107?) year old woman was asked the secret to her longevity and she said she stayed out of other peoples' business and drank Pepsi and ate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups every day.

And I heard Betty White recently say she had a hot dog and french fries every day for lunch. She's what, 94 and still going strong.

Sometimes it seems as if having a daily routine has something to do with longevity.

Having a daily routine may be another way of saying less stress.
Also, I notice people that are still working, tend to live longer. Happily married people live longer (maybe a cat will give the same benefit)

Having a reason to get out of bed in the morning probably helps.

That might or might not be the gene that I read about them studying - is that the one that they've found longer in people with longevity? There's one that longevity is tied to they found that when factors shorten it, it shortens your life. A lot of the toxins we have in our foods, agriculture, etc, shorten it and that results in shortened life span.

I've had several family members who lived past 100 - up to 110, actually. If you looked at what they did for clues - the only ones you can point to are lack of stress and activity. They've all been extremely active. My father who is now 90 has always told me that if you stop being active, that's it for you, mentally and physically.

Some people at extreme age smoke, drink, etc - but they are all thin and they are all active.

            Yeah,
My dd will be 86 this year and for the last 25 years he goes to the gym still for 4 days a week. I mean religiously. He will not miss.

He does eat good, too. Not organic at all though. But still relatively good. Not a whole lot of junk .But he definitely every once and awhile has some beers and wine and eat a burger and fries

We have to remember that our parents had real food most of their lives instead of this factory farmed and giant ag frankenfood. It makes a difference. We always had gardens - fresh, no pesticides, etc. Meat was hand raised with no chemicals in their food or shot into them. Milk was raw and wonderful. Mother's breastfed instead of slopping GMO and sugar laced formula at kids so they had immune systems. It's almost impossible to get a start like that on life now.

They also walked 10 miles uphill both ways to school and work. That had to have had some benefits, ya think?

So, you must be located in the Ice Kingdom in the land of Ooo and it's too cold to stay out all night??

How about just using your will power and force yourself to take a small vacation, leaving work behind, and head on over to the Grass Lands and star gaze all night? You'll thank yourself for it later.
