I'll keep this nice and short, I joined the forum today, and I basically just wanted to say hi. I look forward to learning a lot from you guys and hopefully contributing some stuff too.

Me - Worked for 20 years as a Design Engineer (CAD) then decided life was too short to be stuck in an office working for someone else. So I left my job and started a niche site (I have 4 now) about 6 months ago. My main site has 300+ unique visitors a day and it seems to be growing at a steady rate, it's making around $300 a month with Amazon mostly.

I have a long way to go, but I feel like it's moving in the right direction, I'm hoping this forum will be my road map to success

Thanks

$300 a month, it sounds like you could be teaching us a thing or two!

Well as long as it is free traffic?

    Welcome!

      lol, thanks!

Yes all my traffic and sales revenue are 100% organic. When I set the domain up I got some free adwords credit, which I used, but saw barely any results in terms of sales anyway.

I do occasionally spend $5.00 on Fiverr on some random things, mostly social SEO just because it's so damn cheap when compared to the actual man hours I would need to achieve the same goal.

Yes, l have used fiverr as well, but the results are pretty useless when it gets down to actual sales or signups!

True, but I did manage to get 4000 FB likes for $5, I know it's not like they are ever going to generate me sales, but it seems a lot easier to start for 4000+ than it is from zero.

I did run a little test on a new site with absolutely zero traffic with a Fiverr gig that promised real people for a month, 300 a day, there was definitely traffic and clicks, but absolutely zero sales. So I'm pretty sure those type of gigs definitely have no effect.

    Hi "new guy!"

I'd love for one of my sites to be making $300/mo with Amazon!

I have two blogs set up with aStore but have never made more than about $6 over six months.

Any tips you'd like to share?

      Thanks for the warm welcome,

I'm obviously still learning myself, but I'm more than happy to offer my limited wisdom.

I would say my success to date has been a combination of producing good content and backlink building mostly using social networks.

I started by picking popular products and producing unique reviews based on other reviews I had researched. All my posts are built around keywords I have researched with Google Keyword planner.

It took me a few months before I realised that it was a waste of time to go for the really popular terms, instead I look for terms with a string of 3 or 4 words, sometimes with as little as 500 monthly searches and focus my content around those.

I usually write a good 600-800 words per review.

Over the last 6 months I've gained over 3000 backlinks and managed a total of 100 posts. I'm now getting first page Google results for almost all the products I review, some are actually creeping up to first place.

I now get approached by companies asking if I would like to review their product, so I would say a good 50% of all my reviews are now hands-on and far more in-depth which always seems to reflect well on referrals.

      my top tips:

      1. Make use of Tumblr and Pinterest for backlink building, if you are not sure how, go on YoutTube and watch a guy's tutorials called LazyAssStoner.

      2. Pick keywords further down the list of popular terms with a string of words.

      3. Hunt for newly released products rather than ones that have been reviewed to death already

      4. If you have just done a glowing review of a product, hunt twitter and facebook for the company that makes the product, like or follow them, then post on the FB/ Twitter page and say something like "congrats on an amazing product!" and include a link to your review, most of the time they will like/ retweet it.

      5. Use Reddit - but tread very carefully, if your post/review isn't to affiliate/spammy looking and you get it in a popular subreddit it can explode. I once had a link go viral on there, I got over 10,000 views in a matter of a few hours. The next day I had over 70 Amazon sales. - Using Reddit is NOT a sustainable source, but it's great on occasions if you can pull it off.

I hope some of those tips help

Thank you so much for your detailed outline!

I've copies this into a Notepad to study.

My one blog is in the wedding and party planning niche; the other is in the deer hunting niche, which is actually my husband's blog but he hates blogging. ROFL

I also have a blog in the electronic cigarette niche, but that one's to primarily promote one particular brand as an affiliate.

I'm thinking I'd do better in the party planning or hunting niches.

Whatever you do, don't ever get the two mixed up!!

I can just see the local newspaper story now: "An unfortunate accident occurred at the Central Golf and Game Club this past Sunday when a deer-themed wedding party went horribly awry...."
