I hope that this isn't the video about the kid who runs around and collects all the stray dogs for a funeral, so he can see his pet dog, sniffles on tv?

Mum is the british equivalent of MOM in the US, and apparently used more often as such.

BTW I MIGHT be wrong here, but I think it is also sometimes a kind of polite form of address like some would use "lady" in the US.

It is just a nice movie to show where a family discovers their kids gift. Yes "mum" means a mother - I am sorry that was difficult for you to work out - next time I will type all in US English.

I'm sorry that you had to encounter such nastiness here. I am baffled by the completely uncalled-for hostile, negative, vacuously-nitpicking responses to someone's friendly gesture in sharing a great movie. If they've got nothing of value to say, just toxic verbiage, why bother saying anything? That movie was really well crafted, good acting, good script, nice film scores.

I was really happy to unexpectedly come upon such a gem that I hadn't been aware of here. It was one of those meaningful movies that watching actually had a life-enhancing effect on me. Again, thank you for that.

To hear SOME talk, you would think I am some evil beast and a troll, and THE problem in all respects for this forum and YET........ And YET...... I have seen a LOT of posts lately talking about nasty people and all, and they weren't talking about ME!

As for me, I hope nobody thinks I said ANYTHING bad about this film. I certainly didn't mean to. I can understand how all the people in that film thought and, like I said, there appear to be problems on BOTH sides here.

But like I said before , having a beer with you would change the whole dynamics for the good

Yes, a lot of people are still going through a lot of s*** at the moment, so verbal abuse about nothing is becoming common, unfortunately!

I had a woman on Fiverr, say, "Dont' use that F**** quotation mark with me"!

She asked me do l do individual flyers, and l said, "No!" and went into a rage because l used "!" at the end.

I replied, glad l didn't use the full stop or l would have gotten death threats, she didn't get it!

I have seen this in retail as well, treat someone who cannot fight back like dirt over nothing, and the attacker will feel better, or some such nonsense!

Kursat, what a wonderful movie - I watched it all and though I don't know the language - it helped that some of it was in English and so I was able to understand the story.-
I wonder how many children who have learning disabilities fall through the cracks because the teachers don't catch on like the art teacher did in this movie?

Thank you for sharing this lovely movie with us.I do agree that parents of school age children should watch this.

Karen, I too was very struck by the movie and I don't often react that way to movies, maybe even sort of jaded. I'd characterize Aamir Khan's "Like Stars on Earth" as a masterpiece on many levels. It is a local story but the heart of it is universal. It struck home for me and I can relate to it personally. BTW, it can be seen with English subtitles this way:Settings>Subtitles/cc/English

Thank you again for sharing it, kursat. It made me decide to start making movies again.

Yeah, had a look, no subtitles didn't help, but probably a good movie.

I honestly couldn't be bothered watching the whole thing and had to skip ahead.

I was waiting for his family to go on a ship that sinks and for him to end up on a boat with a lion?

That movie kept my interest, although it slowed down at the end. Watch it again maybe, (not the start) buy it never!

next time, I will know how to use the subtitles - I may watch it again another time with subtitles - that's how good I thought it was - there are so many mindless movies on lately, so when one comes along with a good story - it's a real treat - there are quite a few Indian films in the foreign section of Netflix - I think I might start watching them - I was struck by the quality of acting too - most of them were really good actors.

YEAH, it is odd how they "code change", in india so much. English HAS borrowed some from hindi, but I don't think I heard a SINGLE hindi word that sounded like English(though they used other languages words, like energy, as if they were hindi). I hate to say it, but I didn't even use the CC option until half way through the movie. The CC option IS in English.

Who knows? I heard "bloody hell" a LOT! I figured it was a statement of surprise or disgust. It wasn't until I saw Crocodile dundees reaction to it that I figured it was VULGAR! So there IS nuance we might not get. And lady is WAY WAY WAY WAY over used in the US! People think lady means woman, and it has more meaning than that! Maybe not QUITE as much as the British meaning, but it's CLOSE!

I haven't even really watched this yet, but the beginning STRONGLY implies ON means "out of", and that they are teachers reading grades. On that basis, MOST got 80% or better right. The two failed scores were 8% and 12%. So either the kids have a problem, the teacher or school has a real problem, or it was difficult and the kids just didn't study. I mean this isn't just a case of them being simply bad students or some such. But I have a lot to do, and this doesn't interest me that much, so I'll wait.

OK, I got half way through, and CHEATED! Before I cheated though, I THOUGHT this might be it. Disney created a short and sweet video about an actress they have that is dyslexic!

When I was a little kid, people told me it was akin to a kind of mirrored writing. NOW, it is clear it can be different and vary. I could see how this could create problems, ESPECIALLY for one studying in hindi where you have, ESSENTIALLY, like 150 characters that can vary SLIGHTLY, and be stylistic. It isn't like most latin that is DISTINCT, and latin only has around 25 or so characters(There are MANY variants of the latin alphabet and maybe only 25 characters are common. There could be like 10 additional ones(in any given language) that are distinct between English, French, german, Spanish, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and who knows what others. AGAIN though, they tend to be more distinct than eastern type characters.

And a hindi teacher, or writer, may try to tell you there AREN'T near 150 characters in hindi, but there are variants to change the tone, add an r sound, add a short I, add a long e, etc.... And they can appear in different variants.

OOOPS! We must TRASH this now! GODWIN!!!!!!!!!!! NAW, just kidding, though many have said that! GODWIN said the longer a violent discussion continues, the more likely Nazism will be mentioned, but it has been twisted to be understood as such a reference devalues the totality of the discussion of that side. IMAGINE, WWII was fought on such discussions!

I'm at the part where the art teacher is reading the child's workbooks on a hunch! How STUPID! The writing is CONSISTANT! NOT the work of an idiot, but potentially one seeing the writing wrong. And REVERSED(AKA MIRRORED) writing?

SERIOUSLY though, teachers and workers in retarded and disabled areas SHOULD be familiar with such things. If they fail, they can relegate the next major innovator to the dustbin of some retarded area being depressed and working as a janitor all their life.

MAN, If I were his parents and knew NOTHING, I would be asking why things are backwards! And the flipbook shows he isn't an idiot! Well, I think I may call it a night. I have a lot to do. But Kursat,
THANKS for the movie. It IS nice and it would be nice if all took such things to heart. Of course I am already around 50 years old, and it was an old topic THEN!

MAN they pull at the heart! The stupid father, after risking his sons very existence, and being told by the teacher brags that his wife studied it on the internet. He is told what the teacher thinks, walks out in disgust, and sees his son reading slowly but surely, and confidently. He must walk away without making a word because he is disgusted with HIMSELF! 27 minutes to go, I really will call it a night. Good night.

    Discrat,

I can be acerbic at times. I admit it. But I think you and I would really get along, and you would see where I am coming from. I would have simply thanked you, but I have no option right now.

I really have only wished the best for the world. Money has value only because it has a value of exchange. If all understood how that really worked, and why, the world would be a lot better.

Relating to this, if teachers looked at problems like that artist did, they could provide a REAL service that could not be so easily replaced by a video. The morphing of that childs drawing at the end is really something. It demonstrates the idea of the entire movie! 13 minutes to go, I guess I'll watch it. NICE MOVIE!
