Richie Benaud, one of the finest cricketers ever produced by Australia, and arguably the best commentator of the game on both TV and radio, has passed away peacefully in his sleep aged 84.



Thanks for a "mahvelous" innings Richie, RIP.

    Just finished watching Australia's Channel9 memorial show on the life of Ritchie. Brought back a lot of great memories. Still remember being at the Gabba in Brisbane during the tied Test match.

      That was a couple of years before I was born, however it became the stuff of legends and I wish I had been around to see it.

      My most memorable Benaud moment was him as host of 9's cricket highlights show late at night when he gave the Australian side an absolute spray over the "underarm incident" against New Zealand.

      I watched the cricket on 9 for the first time in a few years this season just gone and was actually disgusted and embarrassed by the commentating team. I ended up turning the volume down and listening to the commentary on ABC radio instead.

    Despite me not following cricket, even I know he was one of the GREATS!
    I think every Australian knows who he is and he will be sorely missed.
