Default Why do people write "EDIT", when they edit their post... what is the signifigance?

I often post something, then edit and reword it some...but I have noticed some who write "edit" when they do that....why?

I do that sometimes. Usually I do it if I have added more info, or changed something singnificant - then if someone comes back to reread the thread they can easily see that the original post has been changed.

I think it's the polite thing to do if others have posted after you - otherwise you can make them seem totally dozy for not having seen something that's now there, or for talking about something that no longer is. I wouldn't normally edit in these circumstances, though - I'd just post again after them if I thought something needed making clearer.

There's one of my favorite warriors!

Thanks.

EDIT:

I guess most of my edits aren't significant enough to make anyone look dozy but I will keep that in mind.

Its one of the best practices you do in blogging as well as forum posting, it helps readers to know what has been changed in the content.

I think they just want to emphasize that they modify/change something on their post
