Why do people write "EDIT", when they edit their post... what is the signifigance?

I often post something, then edit and reword it some...but I have noticed some who write "edit" when they do that....why?

    I do that sometimes. Usually I do it if I have added more info, or changed something singnificant - then if someone comes back to reread the thread they can easily see that the original post has been changed.

    I think it's the polite thing to do if others have posted after you - otherwise you can make them seem totally dozy for not having seen something that's now there, or for talking about something that no longer is. I wouldn't normally edit in these circumstances, though - I'd just post again after them if I thought something needed making clearer.

      I guess most of my edits aren't significant enough to make anyone look dozy but I will keep that in mind.
