And now, scientists have proved it!

Puppy Eyes' Help Dogs Bond with Humans, Study Suggests

A new study suggests that when dogs and owners gaze into each others' eyes, it facilitates the release of oxytocin, the love hormone, in both species. The new results suggest that early in domestication, dogs may have hijacked an ancient mechanism humans use for bonding.

I'm smitten by love, haha!

I just have a minor problem with this comment:

Considering wolves (dogs) are the most social of any animal and the most emotionally dependent on being part of a "pack", maybe it's humans that did the "hijacking"? Or most likely, both people and wolves already had this "ancient mechanism" and is why we both bond so well?

Yeah, poor choice of words on the author's part. I'm going with we both had it from the beginning.

But my post was for those that need scientific proof to believe anything.

      Aww! Thanks!

And I feel the same way about you too.

And we did all of that without staring into each others eyes!

Puppy care? $35 shop vac, baking soda, water. And a smart enough pup to housebreak in a few days. That's all it's ever taken mine.

Kurt - I believe you're right. Both humans and canines are pack animals (humans we call "tribal" but it's the same gist). Our social orientations were pretty parallel in the first place. Because our emotional orientations are hooked to our instincts, put the social orientation next to it and you have two species just made for each other.

It's interesting, as many animals consider staring in their eyes to be a sign of aggression. STILL, that pooch seems to be looking up as if to say "will you be my friend?".
