Taxes Are 'Optional' and There Is No Military: Welcome to Liberland, Europe's Brand New Country!

Liberland has open borders, a flag, a Twitter account and a Facebook page. It does not yet have a constitution (we're told it is being written), national anthem or official language. We also know that Liberland will not be printing currency, instead favoring cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

What does it take to qualify to be a Liberland-ian? According the web site, potential citizens must:

- have respect for other people and respect the opinions of others, regardless of their race, ethnicity, orientation, or religion

- have respect for private ownership which is untouchable

- do not have communist, nazi or other extremist past

- were not punished for past criminal offenses

If you meet all of above criteria and have an interest in joining Liberland, you will need to fill out the citizenship application and file it electronically. (There is no place to send "snail mail" in the new country.)

Liberland does have a Facebook page which has already gotten more than 28,000 "likes."

So what is the current language? Czechoslovakian? Serbian? Croatian? German? English? I guess it WOULD be a good idea to learn serbian(border), Croatian(border), and German(A common second language there apparently).

Keeping my eye on this. Gonna check and see if Jeff Berwick has said anything about this.

Just registered. Last month I became a minister. Soon to be a citizen of Liberland.

Weird: I was just thinking last week about checking state boundary laws to see if movement in the land, rivers, etc., since state boundaries were initially created have created any "gaps" where I could plant a flag.

There's a rumour that WC has put up for presidency there. Oh, and Claude's already signed a 10 year lease for a vacuum cleaner shop on the high street. Think I'll stay put.

            there's already a president:
            Vít Jedlička

honestly - it will be a very small country - I really don't expect to be able to become a citizen - it really depends on how they will determine who gets in, and who will have priority.

I love Canada - and the area I live in now - but I don't love it's politics - and let's just leave it at that - since political debates are forbidden -

If I really wanted to, because my parents were from Malta , I could apply for citizenship in Malta and it would cost me a few thousand dollars and some processing time - Malta doesn't appeal to me for many reasons - I won't get into why.

If I wanted to live somewhere else - I would want to be somewhere where my privacy was respected, where I would feel safe, where I could live in comfort and peace. I don't need a lot of material things, but privacy, safety, liberty and peace mean everything to me.

I can't blame them. I think if taxes were fairer -it would be significantly different. People wouldn't be so willing to jump ship.

3 sq miles? LMAO. That's not enough room to take a respectable walk. Wonder how many people they'll try to stuff into those borders - and how long they can hold their liberty in an ever increasingly fascist world without a military, and probably no personal firearms.

Nice idea - but pretty silly unless they're charging for registration and using it to buy up surrounding land continually. There's no freedom in living like a sardine.
