OK, time for a few TRUE stories! In one Job I was on, a coworker once came in in neon green trunks, and a T shirt. The boss was LIVID, and he nearly fired the guy. On that job, with customers, we were required to wear suits. I recently told a manager about that, and he was SHOCKED someone was SO bad! I ALSO interviewed a guy over the phone and, when he came in, I thought WHAT HAVE I DONE? He had the worst getup you can imagine, though better than what this woman describes. MANY corporations FORBID wearing jeans. So YEAH, it matters for men. In fact, men have a TRADITIONAL look they are supposed to be going for. Since it is for men, women aren't expected to go that route, and are often given MORE latitude! If you wear something sedate, reasonable, and not provocative, that is good enough. And any woman should be ready for something like that.

To say this is sexist is LUDICROUS! BTW you know why so few women are in IT? VERY FEW even TRY to get such a job! I have interviewed less than maybe 5 women, though I have interviewed over 1000 men. I only gave 1 woman the full thumbs up, and about a dozen men. SO, in a way, I hired MORE women! 20% of applicants versus about 1 percent of men! STILL, ten times as many men were fully approved.

So don't say it is sexist when so few even apply. The same goes for politics. HISTORICALLY FEW women have tried to run.

Steve
