Interestingly, not one of them has anything enshrined in their constitutions about the "pursuit of happiness", but have achieved it anyway.

    Edit to add:
And the only country that does have happiness, pursuit thereof, guaranteed comes in at a credible 15th, which still ranks it in the top 10%.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

Surprisingly, if you take Shane out of the equation, Australia rises to third.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

That happiness stuff is in the American Declaration Of Independence and its understandable that you didn't know that.

I am not surprised with Switzerland. Most of them are rich. They have good health care. No one bothers them. Government is ok. No murderous individuals. Most of all, the women are beautiful. So Swiss folks would be very happy.

funny Canada placed 5th - you know why?

most Canadians anesthetize themselves to the point of complete apathy - just to give you an example of that - the town I live in has the dubious distinction of having the busiest beer store in all of Canada!

it's not so much that they are happy - it's just that they don't give a damn

also - notice how the happiest countries are socialistic?

There's plenty of capitalism going on for those that desire to start and run a successful business in those countries.

It's not pure socialism but most if not all of those countries have a high tax rate and a very robust social safety net.

IMHO, its a great social contract.

The citizens pay a lot in taxes but also receive a whole lot in benefits.

Economic freedoms usually result in happiness for citizens of countries that have them.
