I need a new laptop and I recently saw a commercial for a tiny 10 inch Dell. I'm not that fond of Dells but I need something very small which I can stick in my bag and not weigh me down. Do any of you have one you would recommend that has the options and memory I would need to do all my SEO stuff I'm trying to learn? I need to add some amount of software so I wasn't certain what I would need. Any suggestions appreciated!

Most of those small laptops are missing in features like a cd/dvd drive.

Parts are parts. the processor in a dell is no different from the processor in an hp. The difference is repair. All comp equipment breaks, and because laps are sort of specialized equipment, getting them repaired is not going to be cheap, so when it breaks, where will you go?

That is why dell is the best choice. Regardless of what you think of their machines (which are exactly like every other machine you've probably ever used) when it breaks, dell will come to you to fix it. It wont get shipped to wherever and come back even more torn up than when it left.

Unless it's a rare lemon, just about any NEW laptop should be fine for your needs.

I can't find a NEW laptop that isn't considerably more powerful than the one I currently use and it works fine.

Really it's come to the point where you can focus on features and not really have to worry so much about the power of the machine since they all work great. I have used a netbook and it works fine for me and I didn't find it laggy or anything.

This is just my opinion on the parts/fixing/warranty matters. Laptops or netbooks are SOO cheap today you might as well just buy one for $500 ish or under and use it till it breaks instead of getting a more expensive machine or paying $100+ per year for extra years of service. Even if your $500 machine doesn't last that long as in a few years, the current $500 one in the year 2012 then will be WAY faster than today's $1000+ version.

      You SURE about that?

I have the ASUS EEE now. IT, like most nettops has an ATOM processor! They are SOLDERED in! Even an EXPERT wouldn't dare touch it, so a bad CPU would mean a new motherboard! Most modules on it have the SAME problem! The memory and disk drive can easily be changed, etc.... by an AMATURE that is careful and grounded.

BTW refering to kimw, CD/DVD drives are big and bulky, for a nettop, and consume needless power, and can easily add over 10% to the cost, so they are left off for a reason. External ones are available and nice if you need to install software/backup, etc.... The truth is that every single laptop made in over a decade has been missing features. It is just that some don't realize it for some reason. RS232C, parallel, IRDA, VGA, din keyboard/mouse, PCMCIA,volume, floppy are just SOME examples! If you buy a laptop for under say $5000 now, it is probably missing at least one of these features, and it probably is even if it costs more.

And EVEN if you claim they have been supplanted, who is to say DVDs won't be? I can almost guarantee they WILL be. flash memory is ALREADY better, and better supported in so many ways. The ONLY thing better about CDs/DVDs is they are CURRENTLY a little cheaper/faster to create, and they are bigger, so there is more ad space, and they are harder to steal.

p.s. dont waste your money on a 10" computer. they are junk. the manufacturers are practically giving them away because they aren't worth the hype.

Bluesquares had a comment in another thread that associated macs and Starbucks.

Some of the best companies to follow for marketing tips are Starbucks and Apple. Apple is overpriced on everything, but it's so cool to have an Ipod or Macbook.
And I had a chuckle a couple of days ago about mac and pc social skills.

Some of the best hybrids come from manufacturers like Fujitsu and Toshiba. I highly reccomend getting a lifebook. It's compact and durable and has its own external dvd/rw drive that you can swap for a blue ray drive if you have the extra cash.
