Desk-top computers: What does an internet marketer need?

I find myself in the market for a new computer. I bought my last one years before I got into internet marketing. Now I find myself with all this software, graphics, videos, etc. And I'm wondering what I should be looking for in a new system. Any advice guys? I'm assuming I'l want at least a TB hard drive, as my current HD is almost full. What else should I be thinking about as an internet marketer?

Thanks in advance guys,
Ron

Any updated laptop should be great... but I like sticking with good dependable namebrands. I've had quite a few different ones over the years. As far as space? I'm now using more and more online storage space instead of my laptop...this way it frees up my laptop and allows me to gain access to my videos, images and docs from anywhere.

*Office 365 comes with 1 TB of online storage.

Honestly, your hard drive is not the issue....just move all of that content over to Google Drive and you have plenty of room again. Deleting un-used files and folders is also critical for your load times, so you'll actually see a pretty big productivity boost by cleaning house.

If your system is only a year old, then you probably do not need a new system. So do the following and get back to us-

    1) Delete unused programs, games, videos, etc. Store all the multimedia that you do need in the cloud. You may also want to consider buying an external hard drive for $75-100 if there's a ton of junk you feel like you have to keep.

    2) Download Advanced System Care 8 (the free version) and let it thoroughly clean your hard drive. This is the best all-in-one, dummy proof product on the market that does everything....and it's free. The paid version is only marginally better so feel like you have to buy anything.

    3) Defragment your hard drive with the included Windows defragmenter or Iobit's Smart Defrag 4. This will get your files organized based on what you use most frequently. Again, the free version is fine....don't buy anything.

    4) Make sure you have all Windows Updates installed, then update your anti-virus and run a full scan.

    5) If your computer doesn't run like new at this point, you have a virus or some sort of malware your ant-virus can't detect. So download the free version of Malwarebytes and let it find the culprits.

    6) If that doesn't work, then re-install Windows. This makes your computer new again with factory settings...just be sure to backup everything online or to an external hard drive first.

    7) That's it..your system should run like new again. With your files in the cloud and possibly a new external hard drive, you just saved a considerable amount of money.

One last thing- we are probably on the last generation of desktop computers since everything is moving towards portable technology, so today's new system won't be much different from what was out there a year ago. As others have said, you'd be just as well off buying a high-end laptop if you want something newer.

If all you care about is a larger hard drive capacity, buy an external 1TB USB hard drive for $60.

If you're not running at least Win7, yes, buy a new PC.

I would say it all depends on what exactly you will be using it for, will you be creating your own graphics etc?

if so then i would get a powerful processor so that your computer can handle photoshop etc, and make sure it has quad core as well so you don't have to deal with lag if you are mulit tasking.

If you're going to be watching videos, running software, downloading eBooks..etc. then it may be a good idea to have an i3+ processor and at least a few GB of RAM..

Thanks for all feedback guys. My system is actually several years old- somewhere between 6 and 10 to be exact. I know everyone is moving away from desktops but I wondered about the shelf life and reliability of laptops.

As for what I'm doing, lots of video recording and editing, memes, and of course all the various software we all accumulate. KK I'll do everything you advised and get back to you guys. Thanks for all the great answers guys!

    All you need is:

    1) A fast loading computer

    2) Software firewall (since this is a home business. don't need hardware firewalls for what you're looking for).

    3) A PAID antivirus solution (like AVG - very good)

    4) A PAID spyware and malware remover (MalwareBytes and Spybot are awesome)

    5) At least 100 GB of space on your hard drive

    6) Hopefully a Dell computer - that comes with a warranty.

    7) A competent IT technician with entry level knowledge about computer repair (Comptia A+)

That's all i got for right now
