The Things & Bargains You Find In Dollar Stores

Do you ever find a real bargain in a dollar store?

At the one down the road from us: "King Dollar, Nothing Over A Dollar fifteen" I have picked up stuff for a steal. Some carry genuine overstock stuff. They are often limited inventory so you have to check back.

Recent purchases: A big bag of individually wrapped Dove Chocolates

HDMI cables, works fine, bought several.

A slightly older version Mac to tv cable that we had just bought at Bestbuy for $59.99 with a gift card. Saw a gold plated one at the dollar store for $1.15 made by Phillips, took the one back to Best Buy and got cash back. That was a good one.

So what are your experiences on this?

I love bargain stores and often get things from dollar stores. Emery boards, mirrors, cotton pads, dental floss, and other little utility items are always cheaper there. Kitchen gadgets like spatulas, sometimes stoneware dishes or glass mugs (I don't use plastic anything). Dish cloths and towel - party decorations or greeting cards, candles and other nick nacks. Blank books to write in for journals, etc. Batteries, superglue, misc tools. Also socks. I don't like to wear shoes around the house so wear socks out really fast - even if they're expensive ones, so I have a whole drawer full of buck a pair socks. Every now and again there will be organic food in there, too - usually new on the market stuff so I grab that if I see it.

Some stuff you get just isn't all that great of a quality in dollar stores, but if you pick and choose you can get terrific deals.

Our dollar stores are good if you are very selective what you purchase. It's really great here for good wrapping paper and ribbons, name brand packaged foods like pepperoni, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush and snack items. I always check the stamped on dates on edible items and rarely get out of a dollar store under ten bucks. It's always a "check over things" before you buy as far as I am concerned, but we do get a lot of good deals on prices far below the regular stores.

For instance, the name brand regular soap there is a dollar. The grocery has it for $2.29.
