Ok, thought that we all needed something positive...

Well overall, post anything from this era, that l may have missed, ad's, posters, popular songs, not so popular, whatever, the more iconic the better!

No airbags, scary!

I remember this one, the models, (city models) were pretty cool, but dated these days.

These went forever, the Boeing that crashed into the ocean was a classic.

And who can forget this one, classic.

Or a Sauna exercise suit is what you need, groan.

Look like a Lost in Space reject, but don't answer the door!

Bah, never get off the ground, he, he!

State of the art, l had some similar to this in high school?

I basically lived in the computer room back then, and we had the TRS-80, with black and white, chunky graphics and sound and an impressive large floppy drive.

Even Maccers looked different back then, more of a rainbow icon than an M.

Probably a chip down the bottom?

I think that Walkmans came out in the 80, pity!

Ok, l should have got the ball rolling, remember it can be anything from the 70's!

Some good songs came out back then as well, (suttle hint).

Anyway, have fun, and find something funny, entertaining or weird...

It was in 1969 but was a definitive moment for the counterculture of the 70s

WOW! I once worked in Jersey City. I never looked at the tower there, but they were stil reconstructing part of the replacement.

The problem with logans run and planet of the apes is that they are TOO good. People never take anything away from them. There is a LOT of truth under the fantasy gloss.

Bah, never get off the ground, he, he!
WHO said that? What I love was how I one time heard that Apple would never stay afloat, because they sold so few computers, etc... At the time, they were apparently the biggest seller of computers, on a quantity and to a degree cost, basis IN THE WORLD! Why didn't anyone see it? Well, SURE APPLE was HUGE and sold LOTS of computers, but they had TONS of competitors selling a very similar computer to one another. So apple wasn't competing with IBM. IBM would have LOST! They were competing with IBM, HP, COMPAQ, DELL, DEC, TANDY, etc.....

BTW Apple was perhaps the FIRST successful microcomputer company! RCA FAILED. IBM literally LAUGHED at the idea, so they dragged their feet and came in AFTER apple was a big success. DEC was LATE to the game! ATARI, COMMODORE FAILED! TI, HP, etc... Tried LATER and FAILED! A couple dozen other companies you may NEVER have heard of tried and failed!

IRONIC! GUESS who was offered the ENTIRE APPLE operation before it even started, and could have maybe put IBM out of business? They BLEW IT though, and told the young guy, "NO THANKS! YOU CAN HAVE IT! GOOOOOOD LUCK!!!!!" GIVE UP? It was HP! Their young engineer, that offered them the whole thing for nothing apparently? A guy by the name of "Steve Wozniak"! It was good that he did it though. They couldn't accuse him of wrong doing.

State of the art, l had some similar to this in high school?
That is/was a LOW END model during like the mid to late seventies. They had some that were CLOSE to maybe being considered computers.

They probably had like 5 kinds.

The old fashioned that could do like +-*/ and like inverse. Ironically, I think these became bigger later as premium advertising media.
    This kind.
Ones that had logs, and a few other things.
The fancier ones that even today might be considered somewhat worthwhile by someone in advanced math.

I basically lived in the computer room back then, and we had the TRS-80, with black and white, chunky graphics and sound and an impressive large floppy drive.
With ME, it was commodore PET!

Even Maccers looked different back then, more of a rainbow icon than an M.
I think this was one of the FIRST ones, and they used this as part of the architecture, rather than designed FOR the logo.

Probably a chip down the bottom?
OK, I don't think I would consider THAT iconic!

I think that Walkmans came out in the 80, pity!
GEE, MY first tape recorder was REEL TO REEL! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! I think it WAS the late 1960s though.

Hmmm, Star Trek and other tv shows were in the ballpark, but there is plenty of early sci-fi, that could have motivated them.

Shape of Things to come, and City under the Sea, are two that come to mind.

Yes l had a reel to reel as well, like the one Penny has in Lost in Space, but all that winding, arrrggg, drove me nuts.

Here are some more tv series l couldn't get enough of back then.

And one of the model city images from Logins run, no wonder l watched it, still cool models.

And of course this with seriously cool models.

Star trek was not close AT ALL!!!!!!!! Oh SURE, there have been minor improvements in diagnostic techniques, like star trek said would be WHOLE SALE! In MY book, that is WRONG! And they spoke of the communicators, which many call a win, that was OBVIOUS! AGAIN though, THOSE were able to go around the planet! The ONLY thing we have today that comes close is a very old, and RARELY used technology! OH? You think cell phones are similar? TRY going even three miles into the nearest secluded area, or off shore, and call the nearest city. IT WON'T WORK!!!!!

But the idea of technology? Education standards? inter (name class) relations? Economics? TOTAL FAIL!

NO, I was speaking of things like planet of the apes, where even PETS are abused, and creatures think they are so smart because they can use antiquated technology to a degree with NO understanding, and inter(name class) relations, etc.... Or home about logans run with a government run conspiracy abusing religion and forced executions masquerading as some joyful event? They ALSO declared the outside off limits to keep people from finding the truth!

OH, and Space 1999? A movie about the earth having SO much nuclear waste that they have to move it off the earth, onto the moon, and it ends up going super critical and blowing the moon out of its orbit. It IS a pity that they don't tell how that would destroy the moon, DRASTICALLY change the earth and possibly kill everyone, but THEN there would be no show!

Nah, we get barraged with 70, 80 and 90, flashback tv show here.

Probably because commercial tv stations know that they are cheap to produce, and the ratings are good, but not to high!

My Brother does the sorting of one of them in AU, for the purpose of being able to digitally access all of their old material.

And lets just say that free to air being a wasteland is intentional!

Although the 70's to the year 2000 was the hayday for tv, then with this Paid tv BS, it all disappeared!

Hmm, yes knew that one would crop up eventually.

Jeans that actually fitted, those were the days.

      Embarrasing!

Yes, had one, and had the decision to either buy The Phone Home game, (can't remember the name) or Legend, with the laughable graphics, l decided on Legend eventually?

I did find a 70's cologne ad, that was basically two people having sex and throwing some aftershave about. Don't post that one!

Yes, the 70's where you could walk into a shopping center and have smokers everywhere!

I remember this ad for some unknown reason?

9 Lives, what a dumb name, may as well call it Venomn?

And l had to put Fara Fauchet in.

That was Calgon not Cow,....never mind!

Least they lost the dumb hats!

      Sorry about the crap audio!

      And one more...

State of the Art Sanyo! The ad is in mono by the way, maybe they are trying to tell us something?

I LOVED it! I probably would have loved it MORE if the boy weren't so dependent on the girl! The girl could determine intent, often read minds, see the past and some of the future of anyone and, if she tried hard enough, do telekineses. She also communicated with animals and they quickly did her bidding. The boy could communicate telepathically with her, see the past and future SOMEWHAT, and easily do telekineses, but he could ONLY do the telekineses if he had his harmonica at least in some of them!

But YEAH. And Kim Richards was one of my favorite actresses. I think I saw every film in the franchise, including the one with Dwane Johnson. BTW if memory serves, but the kids there were about equal in ability.

Well, at least in the first one, when they somehow got locked up, I forget why/how, after tia got tony's harmonica back, tony was able to create a nice diversion. Of course, they were on foot, so tia got a bear, IIRC, to frustrate the sheriffs attempt to use the police car.

But what did you think was perfect? That I thought they could have made it a bit fairer? They WERE able to do such things because they were aliens, after all.

Well, there ARE a number of actors you don't hear much about. But John Amos hasn't exactly been a nobody. Just looking at Wikipedia, to start:

John Amos (born December 27, 1939) is an American actor who played James Evans, Sr. on the 1970s television series Good Times. His television work includes roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the miniseries Roots, for which he received an Emmy nomination, and a recurring role as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace on The West Wing. He also played the father of Will Smith's character's girlfriend, Lisa Wilkes, in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

He has also appeared on Broadway and in numerous motion pictures in a career that spans four decades. He has received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and NAACP Image Award.
He has also found good parts in films like die hard II. In DHII, he played the kind of secret villain. He played a military leader to go in to take care of the primary villan, and recruited nearly all of the people HIMSELF, so he could covertly HELP the villain. I say NEARLY, because one person ended up getting mixed up with it by replacing the other, and AMOs character ended up killing him.

Did YOU know that Fred Foxx was one of at least TWO actors that DIED because people delayed help because they died doing what they often did as part of a routine? WHAT A WAY TO GO!

You die, of a heart attack, in the middle of a show because people don't get you help because you often, as part of your character, FAKE a heart attack!?

As for mary tyler moore? It was a kind of show within a show. At the time, women were often limited in what many let them do, and MTM PRODUCED this show, that was about a woman with supposedly limited options that worked up to a nice position working aside a fellow male coworker doing the same thing, and one stop under the head of the department. All the while, in real life, she was doing even BETTER!

And what about MALES in similar areas? Well, I watched a show just yesterday about how the sprouse brothers refused to do a final show unless disney allowed THEM to produce a new series, where they had everything planned, and were going to pass the torch to an unknown, to continue the franchise. Disney said NO, and laughed at them! Disney came back later, and suggested that the sprouse brothers do the series a certain way to act as a vehicle for Selena Gomez. The Brothers then said NO! The punch line? Outside of the location being changed, and using selena, the disney proposal was EXACTLY what the sprous brothers proposed. BTW The sprouse brothers life is kind of similar to the olsens. BOTH are similar twins, and they even had some business dealings together. The sprouses were once even like the 4th richest child stars.

OH, And this looks like one of the NEWER all in the families! Outside of all the isms, etc.... There was ANOTHER problem with the show! WHAT did they say!?!?!?!? YEP, Gee our old la salle ran great! Originally, people didn't hear it clearly:

Well, I will concede that women can do well, and nobody really lives up to their potential, but the old WE CAN DO ****ANYTHING**** you can, and BETTER is silly.

I mean that in any particular case, not just women, etc...

For the most part, I never got the point of the bachelor TV Series, like family affair, or courtship of eddies father. I DID like my three sons though, and hazel, and nanny and the professor. You know, nearly every one made americans look RICH, even though it was never the case to that degree.

Well, this is more of a how to, but good for a laugh. Back then instant photos was pretty cool, although the first Polaroid camera came out in the 50.

Let's be reasonable! They COULD have made a camera like todays back in the 1970s. It would probably be as big as a projector was back then, cost a fortune, and all. EVEN today, they probably can't build a device much smaller than that in the 70s with the technology. It needed SO much power, that they designed a new battery, and it was akin t the batteries made today. It was LITHIUM POLYMER! YEP, even TWO DECADES AGO LAPTOPS used an INFERIOR technology! WHY? IT WAS CHEAPER! Even when they FINALLY introduced lithium for LAPTOPS and phones, etc... They often charged $100 or more EXTRA for it. REMEMBER the NiMH?

Lithium polymer battery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now TODAY, they COULD build a whole camera in a chip that is INCREDIBLY tiny. I don't know if they ever will. As for the 1950s polaroid, your video aluded to the problem THERE! You had to properly remove it, WAIT, and then remove the cover. So it was like you were devloping it using a special method out in the open. The newer one, that they advertised HERE, had no cover and did it all automatically. It spit the package out, and you could watch, or put it in a drawer, and it would develop and fix itself.

I don't see what there is to laugh at. And the power in the package, was there for the flash and the motor. The process was still just photochemical. HECK, I am surprised nobody pokes fun at the old flash bulbs used in the 60s and early seventies. You would buycubes that would generally have 4 sides. a mechanism would move a good bulb to the front of the camera, and low power would be applied to the bulb to cause it to basically EXPLODE! OH, it didn't make much noise, and didn't generally hurt anyone, but one look at the bulb, and you knew what happened. It was OBLITERATED! The bulb would then spin around to show the NEXT bulb. Once used, they couldn't be used again. AGAIN, the technology existed for something better, and they eventually used it, but it was so expensive. When it first came out, it cost as much as several cameras. But it didn't use THAT much power, and I never saw a bulb in one go bad.

Just laughing at the gap between now and then!

No doubt we will be laughing at mobile phones in 30 years time, since by then they will be earpieces and hard to see!

Probably have a holographic wrist interface?

They will certainly be laughing at fluorescent sneakers, l am laughing at them now!

          More ad's!

The chocolate bar, truckie one is pretty hilarious. Buy their product and you can score a date, and be bubbling with confidence?

You know, it is interesting! Patrick Macnee did the series narration and ALSO played some evil being of an alien race that provided the motivation and head voices of the cylons. The NEW BG COULD have played off THAT, but NO, they had to polute the franchise.

WHY do they do that? In the PAST, if they did such a thing, they FORKED! They merely gave credit to the earlier work saying something like "CHARACTERS FROM/INSPIRED or FROM A FORMAT". The munsters, for example, did that. But the new POTA or BG DIDN'T! NOW, they call such a slight a "reboot".

Yeah, the old series some genius kid gets them to Earth, and nothing much happens. They should have done a V type scenario.

The newer one they get to Earth and it is a nuclear wasteland, much more interesting story, but l would have liked to see a bit more?

A small colony still on Earth, something circling the moon, a few apes, something?

      Damn, Apes!

But l didn't see it much, only about 7 times!

And this one, if l remember correctly was the first movie on Lazerdisk, (my brother bought one) the CD was the size of a record.

And who can forget this one....

        Stupid bomb!

YEAH, It took them a LONG tiime to figure out how they will do it eventually. To the best of my knowledge, they STILL haven't done even HALF of what they planned in 1995! HECK, in my newest computer, I was running out of disk space. I looked around for the latest compatible technology, and found I could easily fit 2TB into the same space. So I now have more free space than I was using before. The SICK part is that, if this keeps up, they may have one twice the size of THIS one by the end of this year! And to THINK, the first 40MB drive I had was MASSIVELY larger than this! So physically it may have been like 60 times the size. It was abit bigger than a FULL 5.35" disk. THIS one is about 1/3 of a 2.5", but shorter. Capacity wise, it was about 1/50000 the size!

Ok, we never got that in AU, any chance you could track that down online?

              And of course video games....

I think that l bought Adventure, or did l just play it a lot?

Well, l did buy combat, (well it came with the 2600).

And l was totally addicted to this one.

Well, the one with the sound effects!

Yep, l figured that it was the original series!

The more recent one, they get to Earth in a nuclear winter, and then they show a scene 150,000 years into the future and spout something about if we repeat this long enough something will be different!

There was also talk that they wanted the Cylons to knock the ship into a black hole it was in orbit around, and kill off everyone.

The director knew that he would p*** off everyone with such a dodgy ending, but it is no surprise.

Irwin Allen and many others in the 60's, had looped endings to their series, Time Tunnel being the most annoying, and "The Time Travellers 1964" being another.

WELL, I stated that I HATED the idea of an insulting "reboot". HERE, it shows the beginning of the concepts I was talking about. It shows WHY this happened, HOW it happened, and some of the consequences explored. As for the galactica reboot, etc? The first one made it CLEAR that another species, that was reptilian, created the cylons, and they turned on the creators. This NEW one made it clear that the HUMANS did, and then the CYLONS created the HUMANS!!!!! Talk about convoluted and insulting! The first one was reasonable given multiple species evolving. The second one used a convoluted grandfather paradox and is totally opposite of the first one.

Ok, don't think that l saw that one, in Au they abruptly stopped it when they got to Earth and that was it!

Yes, pretty annoying when they mess around with the plot!

They did that with Star Trek, Spock dies, in the nuclear thing, then in one of the reboot motion pictures they reverse it, and Kirk winds up in a nuclear contaminated room, geesh, wish Spock shedding a tear, and doing the hand thing on the glass.

Pity since it had a good story and the engine room was done convincingly!

But, thanks Steve for digging those up, l researched the later series only!
