My wife and I just got back from watching the movie Spy, with Melissa McCarthy.

Normally, I wouldn't go see it, but a friend told me that it was like one of John Candy's best movies. As fans of John Candy, we decided to go see it.

I'm glad we did. Melissa McCarthy is a comedic star. Sure, she's short, overweight, and will never be confused for a model. But, in the entire movie, not one fat joke.

With the liberal aid of stunt doubles, she really kicked some butt, and you were rooting for her. Jason Statham is a co-star, and McCarthy and Statham delivered some of the best, most insulting lines to each other...it kept the entire audience laughing. Who knew Statham could be funny?

I was reminded of John Candy throughout the movie. At any weight, Candy was a huge star, with great comic sensibilities. The same for McCarthy. A great talent.

You go, Girl.

Anyway, I really recommend you see the movie.

I suppose it curbed your intense disappointment when you found that Mad Max was sold out. Your tears soon dried up and you laughed at the movie which got a very good review. Not a cinema movie for me. I only go to see the big FX ones at the cinema unless we face the same situation or I get cajoled into it. I can wait to see movies like Spy on the big screen tv, on dvd, pay per view or Netflix etc.

Actually, Mad Max still holds it's 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest score I think I have seen there. Saw the first 15 minutes online (which looked good) but it was from a screen cam, too dark. I will go and see it at the cinema methinks.

Yes, l second that, too expensive to see something that will end up on tv anyway.

Blockbusters show up on free to air, (if we are lucky) in about 7 years time, and usually get played to death on paid tv, for about 5 to 7 years.

The spy movie with the Mr Bean character was done well, but not worth paying money for!

Besides, you have the "Los Angelas, gets destroyed again, one and Jurassic World, why would you bother with that?

I suspect that your wife won the coin toss?

I love McCarthy - I watched the Identity Theft movie just yesterday for the second time - it was funny all over again.

Looking forward to Spy - but won't see it until DVD is released or I find it "on demand". The clips I've seen from it were hilarious.

No. I wasn't a fan until this movie. But now, I'll watch her earlier movies.

My wife doesn't want to see Mad Max. I'll watch it on HBO The only time I'll watch a movie by myself, is if it's watching a Superhero movie for the second or third time.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

She, was in Night at the Museum, part 4 or the last one!

Great movie, and well worth a look, also the last movie with Robin Williams, sniff!

They give a mention in the closing credits...

I agree - a rare case where the followups to the original movie are better than the original. Last one was really good!
