Some people refuse to eat hot dogs because what they are made up of.

Do you eat them?

I'd take a hot dog over a hamburger any day on taste alone. I've tried to replace them with veggie dogs but the texture's not quite the same.

Lately, I've been going for the veggie burger. You can't really go wrong with that unless you're afraid that soy might cause cancer. Doesn't everything though.

Yes, I eat them, but NOT the chicken or turkey ones. Just a taste preference.

I have read the book Fast Food Nation which does not paint a pretty picture of slaughterhouses (as if such a picture could be painted), and I still eat burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, etc. Heck, I could probably chow down a few chili dogs while watching hot dogs being made in person.

No big deal. It would be interesting.

I love hotdogs! In fact just last night I grilled up a package of them for the family for dinner. I tend to go Chicago style with my dogs and pile them high with onions and peppers, some rich stone ground mustard, some sauerkraut and just going to town on those puppies. Second to that is the chili dog, heaped with chili and cheese and onions. Mmm Mmm good!

I'm strictly a Home Depot Vienna Beef hot dog lover I tried to get the lady who runs the cart, to give me her suppliers name. I guess, you can imagine how that went. Should of known better... But it was worth a shot!

I did manage to get a lead on some design work, so it wasn't a total loss.

I like hot dogs not the jumbo ones as they fall off the bun. And I also eat them with bake beans, and chile.

I tried Heberw franks once as they were made with 100% beef. I didn't like them so I am back to chicken franks.

Why do some figure that anything that could resemble a tube is a phallic symbol. That is DUMB! Hot Dogs USED to be, and were designed as, a type of SAUSAGE! Their shape allows easy thorough cooking! It was using ANOTHER part of the animal which really didn't allow ANY other shape. If you want to think any such thing is phallic, that is YOUR problem!

    Patrician,

Cute, even if I HATE the implication.

Hot dogs are sometimes made from SCRAPS. I haven't had them in a LONG time, although I ate MANY as a kid. Hamburgers are SUPPOSED to be made from slabs of meat like round or chuck.

I'd rather eat my own toes. At least I know what has gone into them! LG.
If you stopped eating everything that you need to buy (meats, canned foods, frozen veggies, etc) because you don't know what goes in them, you would soon have very little to eat.

Anything that is processed has stuff in it. Much of it unintentionally. For example, I once read that it is not recommended you eat more than one can of tunafish per week. Know why?

No - not because of the dolphins. Because of the amount of rat hair and, um, excrement found in it. Mostly from the holds of the fishing barges, but also from the plants where they are processed and canned.

Do you drink soda from a can? Do you wash the can top before you drink out of it? If not...you should.

      I could go on.

As for hot dogs...love them grilled to just a slight char, on a toasted bun with spicy brown mustard and chili.

      Yum!

The difference being, frozen cauliflower is, well, just cauliflower that has been frozen.

Hotdogs are processed garbage made from god knows what. And can still be contaminated with foreign objects!

Tuna? Don't eat it because the human rape of the oceans is deplorable, (and I hope that people that do eat it find lots of rat hair and excrement in it, not to mention loads of other man made pollutants).

Drink soda? Are you totally mad? The most pointless beverage ever. I'd rather drink my own urine. At least I'd know.............Oh, sorry. I think I've already used that line! LG.
My point was simply that there are things in just about anything you buy that you don't see. I really don't care if people eat tuna or not...this post isn't about the politics of fisherman or the human race.

          But I digress...

Even that bag of frozen cauliflower - between the poisons put on it (pesticides) while it's grown to the unknown entities crawling around on them in the "bagging plant", well, you're just as susceptible.

The soda reference was not about what is INSIDE the can (I stopped drinking that stuff about 22 years ago) but what crawls around the cans after canning, and what they do on top of them.

Anyway, on average people swallow upwards of 17 spiders or other insects per year... while they sleep. So it seems we're not safe even if you grew all of your own food. LOL.

          Interesting stuff.

Bugs are good nutrition - they are not aesthetically pleasing to think about swallowing.
It's the man-made chemicals that will get ya in the long run.

I don't eat more than a few hot dogs a year. I just don't like them that much, but once in a great while I get a hankering for one. Then it has to be heaped up with other goodies. Saurkraut is awesome on a hot dog and so is chili...but not together.

The problem with tuna is mercury, very well publicized.

So far as hotdogs go, all of the mechanically separated "bits" and scraps and whatever are dumped in a big vat and boiled, essentially sterilizing it. The resultant sludge is then made into your classic tube steak. Not really healthy, but technically safe.

Personally, I like to grill Bavarian smokies or cheddar smokies and eat them like hotdogs.

That's true, Mike. I know that when stranded in the wilderness, eating grubs can save your life - fat source. But not sure if I could keep one down if I swallowed it even if I cooked it first. I've grown some very "civilized" taste buds. In some parts of Africa they will grab flying insects right out of the air and eat them live. I don't think I could do that unless I was actually in danger of starvation. On the other hand, chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers have become elite delicacies.

Ehh I dunno about that - I work out with a guy that won't touch processed food - only eats organic meat, produce, dairy and whole grains - he eats pretty well. Never hear him complain about lack of choices.

Oh BTW the spider swallowing thing is a myth apparently - forget where I herd that but it stuck with me.

As for hot dogs I am not opposed to them. I don't care what kind of meat is put in them personally - I don't believe that festering wounds, worms or other things mentioned are used - but I have no doubt animals lest desirable parts are. I just don't care.

I don't eat them much anymore though - the sodium level in most hot dogs is ridiculous.

Yeah, there's exceptions to every rule. But the way most people eat, they'd go nuts without their processed foods (I probably would too )

Oh BTW the spider swallowing thing is a myth apparently - forget where I herd that but it stuck with me.
And I heard that the myth is a myth For every "fact" there is a contradictory "fact". I have no idea if the spider thing is true, but I HAVE woken up more than once in my life with SOMEthing crawling on me, so even if it's not 17, I wouldn't doubt it happens a few times in your life
