So we got a flat tire today...

... on the highway. Fortunately, it was right at the off-ramp with plenty of room to pull off to the shoulder. And the flat was on the right side of the car, not the left, so he wasn't out near the traffic.

But anyway, it reminded me of how much I love my husband! He got out, jacked up the car, changed the tire, smile on his face because, looking on the bright side, it happened today and not yesterday.

Yesterday was a cold, rainy - as in STORMY - day, so I'd have had to stand outside with him in the rain and hold the huge golf umbrella over him while he worked, which I would have done if I'd been with him.

But today was a beautiful, sunny, breezy 75 degree day, so I was able to stand outside with him and chit chat while he changed the tire. And it only took him about 15 min. and we were back on the road.

He keeps tools in the car and a container of hand cleaner and rags - just in case, so he was able to clean up before we got going again.

When we got back in the car, I told him, 'And that's why I married you. I would never have married a computer yuppie office type who would be afraid to get dirty!'

In fact, that was in the description of my personals ad I'd put online 13+ years ago (which is how we met): "Must be mechanically inclined, not afraid to get dirty..."

So I just wanted to share that.

And WHO says that a proper computer yuppie would be afraid to get his hands dirty?

    I'm certainly not!

Your husband sounds like a gem, Karen, and you sound like a very appreciative spouse!

Just in case you do get caught in a storm with a flat tire, I highly recommend keeping a can of Fix-a-Flat in your car. I've used it on a couple occasions to get myself to a safe location and have my tire repaired or replaced. It really can save you a lot of hassle.

Hmmmm, well l keep some rubber gloves in the boot, so l wouldn't be getting my hands dirty!

But l would ring the RACV first off.

        Let them suffer!

Right side of the car, not the left, do that in AU, and you could be flung a couple of hundred metres!

Well, Fix-a-Flat wouldn't have helped this one. It looked like a huge SPIKE was driven through the tire and left about a 1/4" dia. HOLE. Oh well... LOL

And yes, he IS a gem!

It's a sign of a strong marriage when you enjoy each others company and find something to smile about - even when changing a flat tire.

And we have had LOTS of experience with breaking down and making the best of it.

We're both on disability now and we even share an office at home. But - there's plenty of room here to where if things get "tense," he can go out to the barn or his garage workshop.

Yeah, I noticed that! And he wasn't taking it easy either; he was motoring along throwing rocks at passing cars. Unbelievable!!

It's always nice to be traveling with guys that can do the mechanical stuff for you if it needs. I love going out with my website members because they pretty much make sure we make it back in one piece. Unfortunately, with my lifestyle, I change one heck of a lot more tires than I want to.

You two look like a perfect match. Thanks for the pics.
