I'm a Windows guy, but all of my friends have moved on to OSX and think I'm behind the times. I'm just curious, what OS do you use for day to day work?

Macs are way over priced. WAAAAY over priced.

OS X is a nice OS, but PCs are much powerful for the money.

I agree. I don't think Apple even sells servers as powerful as the one I'm working on right now. My desktop system is a Windows 2012 server on a Dell PowerEdge T620, so 16 hard drives, 192GB of RAM, Dual hex core xeon's, etc.

I could run most of my stuff in the cloud (and do for the most part), so it is possible that I could do dev on a Mac and remote into a server in the cloud. I'm not going to, but that is what my friends are doing. Their online servers are Linux (mine are mostly windows, with one Linux)

Yeah, I hear that often from folks that can't afford an $8k computer. :-)

Some really smart members regularly talk about operating systems, routers, computers, etc. in the "Off Topic" forum.

Also... Windows which I will be staying with especially if W-10 lives up to the hype.

Someone can move this thread if they want.

Yeah, Windows 8 has been difficult to say the least and I'm waiting for W10 before I buy another laptop.... My desktop UI doesn't suffer from many of the Windows 8'isms thankfully, but one of my laptops did. I disliked it so much I gave it to my daughter for an elementary school laptop (way overkill). Its stuff like Windows 8 that make me wonder what it would be like on the other side...

Windows 7 right now - had 8 for a hot moment, but I absolutely hated it.

I'm on the preview of Windows 10 right now. It's actually very stable. The start menu is back. It's like a mixture of Windows 7 and Windows 8 - or Windows 8 done right.

    I'm a Windows guy too! ...

There is more flexibility with Windows. I like the Macs too. But when it comes to getting creating with your computer - Windows wins all day long!

May I first recommend a keyboard? It's really difficult scratching the words onto a monitor.

Seems I'm the only Linux user left around here. I've been using Linux Mint for a few years with no complaints.
I have been thinking it's time for a new laptop and if it has windows 10 on it and I like it I'll keep it that way.

Ha, I put Linux in the poll list as a lark. I honestly did not expect to see anyone select it for their desktop system. Now, for servers, of course...

I've been using Debian GNU/Linux for over nine years. Recently, I've been playing around with Windows 8.1. The little bit that I've used it really makes me thankful that I don't have to use Windows.

BTW, a great addition to Windows 8.1 is the free program, Classic Shell. Without it, I'm not sure that I'd be able to use Windows 8.1 for long. It would be too frustrating.

I think most of the guys are using window because it is very good and user friendly for the users. It is admitted that few people are using Linux and another but using percentage are less.

OSX for the most part. Still have an old Windows laptop and an old Windows desktop that I use occasionally for a couple of programs that don't offer a Mac version.

Windows 10 will be released in a few days. It's free to Windows 7 and 8 users. I've been using it for a while. It's pretty good. The only thing I don't like is the lack of ability to delay updates - which could be bad for some people.
